Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Angels Memorial Guide is a book of healing. It approaches healing, beginning from the loss of a loved one and then gradually exploring the many paths leading to the departed soul. If you read, meditate, and pray after reading each of the selections, you may discover a link to the beyond. The book shares with the reader how he or she can participate in bringing healing to themselves. By example, it explores the love between a father and a son who tragically died at the age of twenty-three years old. Father and son recognize each other in spiritual contexts and attempt to bridge the gap of mutual love and love of humanity. It presents a chain of thought of how in healing oneself one can add to the beauty of our world and the happiness of others. From a Reader: Wow, I can only read a few pages at a time because its so deep and the need to ponder/meditate takes more than a moment. The messages are beautiful and easy to comprehend. I read the Father poem on Sunday, and that night, my deceased father came to visit me in a dream. Awesome!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For I know well the plans I have in mind for you ... plans for your welfare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope." Jeremiah 29:11 In her book Walk with me, Jesus, philosopher and writer Ronda Chervin, Ph.D. offers widows a practical spiritual path that can help them attain hope and faith in God's love and provision. Using the stories of women saints who suffered the loss of a husband, she encourages and affirms women in their new state in life while leading them on the journey to healing and interior joy. Drawing from the themes of the Stations of the Cross, Dr. Chervin ties the sufferings of widowhood with the Passion of the Savior in a way that is both beautiful and healing. Quotes from Scripture and the saints, and prayers to help you turn your heart toward the Lord and His Mother, offer consolation and hope.
Book Synopsis The Year of Mourning by : Lisa D. Grant
Download or read book The Year of Mourning written by Lisa D. Grant and published by CCAR Press. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewish mourning process is a voyage through pain, brokenness, comfort, resilience, acceptance, and even gratitude. The Year of Mourning: A Jewish Journey offers an expansive array of resources—stories, songs, study texts, poetry, and prayers—to lovingly and patiently guide the bereaved through the first year after their loss. Each week the mourner is encouraged to focus on a particular theme to deepen their Kaddish practice. The book also includes new rituals for shivah, sh'loshim, unveiling, and yahrzeit. The Year of Mourning helps support individuals to regain their grounding after loss and, through the richness of Jewish tradition, deepen their connections to memories of loved ones and to others in the community who are walking a similar path. "How do mourners get through that empty eternity of their first year without a loved one, that interminable stretch of darkness—perhaps deepening into despair—after shivah ends? Here at last is a way forward: a week-by-week, yearlong pathway through poetry, ritual, music, and the textual wisdom of Jewish tradition, brilliantly conceived and compassionately framed. I recommend it highly for anyone in mourning." —Rabbi Dr. Lawrence A. Hoffman, Barbara and Stephen Friedman Professor Emeritus of Liturgy, Worship, and Ritual, Hebrew Union College--Jewish Institute of Religion "Walking the path of mourning is very much like wandering in the wilderness; familiar landmarks have become obscured, life's structures have crumbled. The Year of Mourning is an invaluable compass for this treacherous path. The editors offer a rich array of spiritual resources—texts, songs and prayers—in a format that will affirm, guide, and comfort readers. I know I will share this book often with those who are touched by grief." —Rabbi Dayle Friedman, MSW, MAJCS, BCC, author of Jewish Wisdom for Growing Older "Grief is a universal human experience; it stimulates spiritual reflection and yearns for a communal response. Rabbi Lisa D. Grant and Cantor Lisa B. Segal have planted important flora on the inevitable path of grief that we all walk. Each page is a place to linger, look, listen, and reflect. Whether this book sits on your lap or you scroll through it on your device, anywhere your eye focuses will bring a moment of nourishment on your journey." —Rabbi Eric Weiss, editor of Mishkan Aveilut: Where Grief Resides "The Year of Mourning is a must-have for every clergyperson. After nearly thirty years of guiding congregants through the grieving process, I finally have an all-in-one resource to offer comfort and support beyond the funeral and shivah. Understanding that everyone grieves differently, the editors have created a collection of individual units that gives mourners the ability to move through at their own pace. This special compilation of music, poetry, and reflective questions is a wonderful resource." —Cantor Claire Franco, Past-President, American Conference of Cantors

Book Synopsis Beside Still Waters by : Gregg Easterbrook
Download or read book Beside Still Waters written by Gregg Easterbrook and published by Harper Perennial. This book was released on 1999-10-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Fascinating, elegant . . . [Easterbrook] invests the timeless question of life's meaning with distinctly contemporary pertinence."--George Will, Newsweek Yes, says Gregg Easterbrook in this provocative and probing new book. In the tradition of Jack Miles's God A Biography and the work of Karen Armstrong, Beside Still Waters ponders the question "Is there anything left to believe in?" Gregg Easterbrook persuasively argues that rationality and outright doubt are inevitable and indeed vital elements of spiritual faith. Other new and important ideas about spiritual thought include the challenging observation that the Bible never actually proclaims God omnipotent -- a concept, Easterbrook suggests, that arose through the sociology and politics of religion, nor Scripture. Bucking the current trend to undermine the Bible's historical value, he affirms that it is neither simple myth nor mere literature, but rather it records many genuine events that can be seen to chart a spiritual journey not only of man but also of God. A thought-provoking book for anyone who believes that true faith can and should accommodate sincere doubt, Beside Still Waters addresses some of the central spiritual issues of a profoundly skeptical age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's been over 40 years since RAF Excalibur disappeared on its war time secret mission. Unbeknown to anyone connected with the mission at the time the plane had been shot down shortly after take off. Its resting place is at the bottom of Lake Laffey where it stayed along with its crew and Philip Graves biological father, Squadron Leader John Laine. Laine would return within days of his death at a local seance to warn of the latent danger posed by his plane's cargo, only for the authorities to intervene and discredit the medium. Now 40 or so years later and with the impact of local earth tremors nearby, the wreckage of the Excalibur is breaking up and with it the liberation of gas, its cargo bound for Germany. The gas appears across Lake Laffey as a mist drifting inland and affecting adversely, members of the local population. This was its purpose 40 years earlier only the target then was the German air force. A number of inexplicable crimes follow perpetrated by people acting completely out of character and with no memory of their actions afterwards. The prime suspect of a murder accuses a prominent ex-minister of the crown of being complicit in the crime under interrogation, but the man concerned is bed-ridden and aged. The public embarrassment though is enough for MI5 to call on the help of New Scotland Yard Inspector Philip Graves based on his reputation. As Graves delves into the past of the suspect and the ex-minister, involving his own visit to a medium, he begins to unravel the past and the whereabouts of the ill-fated Excalibur, and that of his own connection to John Laine. This is not before a number of other crimes befall the residents who live close to Lake Laffey.
