Book excerpt: Il y a de plus en plus d'études qui confirment un lien entre la mémoire phonologique (MP) (ou l 'habileté à retenir de l'information orale de façon temporaire) et l 'habileté à apprendre des notions de grammaire (par ex : French, 2006, O 'Brien et al. 2006). Toutefois, très peu d' études se sont penchées sur le rôle de la MP dans l'acquisition du genre grammatical, et plus particulièrement du genre en français langue seconde (FLS). Cette étude, élaborée auprès d'apprenants adultes de FLS de niveau débutant, avait pour but de déterminer si une MP efficace coïncidait avec une facilité à apprendre le genre de noms communs français inconnus et avec une capacité à inférer le genre grammatical de noms communs français inconnus. L 'habileté des sujets à apprendre des mots de vocabulaire (Dét. + N) et leur genre respectif (féminin ou masculin) ou leur facilité d lapprentissage, ainsi que leur capacité à attribuer le bon genre à des noms communs inconnus et donci leur capacité à inférer des règles phonologiques de genre- ont été évaluées par le biais de deux (2) tâches auditives. La MP a été évaluée à 1 l'aide de deux (2) mesures: une épreuve de répétition de pseudo-mots français (tirée de Poncelet, 2002) et une épreuve de discernement entre des paires de listes de pseudo-mots français (inspirée d'O 'Brien et al., 2006). Les résultats ont montré que la facilité à apprendre le genre était liée à llefficacité de leur MP, telle que mesurée par l'épreuve de discernementl mais seulement lorsque l' on tenait compte de deux variables additionnelles soitl le niveau de connaissances lexicales des sujets en FLS et l'absence d'instruction préalable en FLS.

Book excerpt: Ce travail décrit et analyse l’évolution du système consonantique d’une enfant, Marilyn, au cours de la période où s’effectuent un grand nombre de transformations dans son système de production phonologique, entre les âges de deux et trois ans. L’analyse porte plus spécifiquement sur : l’acquisition des consonnes en finale de mot et en rime branchante à l’intérieur du mot, l’acquisition du contraste de voisement, ainsi que sur des processus de substitution des fricatives par /l/, d’harmonie consonantique et de métathèse affectant le lieu et le mode d’articulation de certaines consonnes. Le cadre théorique employé pour l’analyse phonologique se base sur des représentations segmentales et prosodiques, ainsi que sur un formalisme basé sur des interactions de contraintes gouvernant les formes de surface ainsi que des relations entre formes sous-jacentes et formes de surface. Je prends également en compte des facteurs externes pouvant influencer les productions de Marilyn. Notamment, je prends en considération la physiologie spécifique au conduit vocal de l’enfant, la question du contrôle moteur des articulateurs et la fréquence des consonnes de la langue cible. Ce travail intègre ainsi à l’analyse phonologique des facteurs externes à celle-ci. Cette intégration permet de montrer qu’il existe une relation complexe mais systématique entre le système phonologique de l’enfant, d’une part, et, d’autre part, les facteurs externes à celui-ci. Le système phonologique de l’enfant réagit aux contraintes externes, ce qui a pour conséquence l’émergence de nombreux processus phonologiques dans le parler de Marilyn.

Book excerpt: L'objectif principal de la présente étude était d'examiner s'il existait une corrélation positive et significative entre la mémoire phonologique (MP) et le développement de l'aisance à l'oral (AAO) en français langue seconde (L2) auprès d'adultes anglophones (N=21) dans un programme d'immersion à l'étranger (PIE) de cinq semaines. Une tâche de reconnaissance sérielle de non-mots anglais (RSNM), mesurant la MP, a été réalisée au début (T1) de la période d'immersion alors qu'une tâche de narration (histoire imagée), permettant de calculer des mesures temporelles de la parole, a été effectuée au début (T1) et à la fin (T2) de cette période. Les résultats principaux nous ont indiqué une corrélation positive et significative entre la MP et le développement de l'AAO en français L2 et ont démontré que la MP pouvait prédire de façon significative jusqu'à 30% de la variation de l'index global d'AAO à la fin du PIE de cinq semaines (T2).

Book excerpt: Bon nombre de chercheurs ont essayé d'expliquer le phénomène de "l'accent étranger" chez l'apprenant d'une langue seconde au-delà du seuil critique. La majorité de ces travaux ont adopté des démarches qui étudient essentiellement l'aspect articulatoire ou la production phonologique. Nous examinons en quoi, bien que riches en enseignements précieux, elles n'ont pas su rendre compte intégralement de ce phénomène et proposons qu'une explication plus satisfaisante tiendrait davantage compte de la perception phonologique. Nous émettons l'hypothèse selon laquelle l'acquisition de la phonologie d'une l2 serait influencée par un 'filtre' cognitif influant sur la perception. Nous proposons que la constitution et le fonctionnement de ce filtre dépendraient, entre autres, des paramètres phonétiques et phonologiques de la ll, et que ce filtre influencerait la façon dont l'apprenant perçoit le système phonologique de la langue cible. Nous proposons une étude empirique a partir de données venant de cinquante-deux étudiants anglicistes de langue maternelle française. Elle cherche a déterminer si les sujets réussissant a percevoir certains phénomènes phonologiques de la l2 et certaines différences phonétiques entre celle-ci et leur langue maternelle sont également ceux pouvant produire avec fidélité les mêmes phénomènes. Les sujets sont testes dans trois domaines: ceux de l'accent syllabique, des voyelles et des consonnes. Il est trouve une corrélation positive et significative entre les résultats des tests de production et de perception pour chacun de ces trois domaines, ce qui confirme notre hypothèse de départ et soulève des implications intéressantes pour la pédagogie.
