Book Synopsis Britain's Failure to Enter the European Community, 1961-63 by : George Wilkes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays collected here outline a number of factors which made the EC too young to be able to assimilate Britain's important interests, and the British over-optimistic in their approach to negotiations with the Community. The role of conflict over Western strategy and European political union in the breakdown of the negotiations is re-assessed, and the negotiations over agriculture and the Commonwealth are revealed in an entirely new light.

Book Synopsis Main Economic Policy Areas of the EEC by : P. Coffey
Download or read book Main Economic Policy Areas of the EEC written by P. Coffey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: by Peter Coffey This is indeed a most opportune time for the publication of a serious, critical and independent study about the "Main Economic Policy Areas of the EEC". The European Economic Community is the world's most import ant commercial and trading bloc and its economic policies consequently have the most far-reaching implications for all countries in the world. The rest of the world is acutely conscious of the Community's trading policies. In turn, these policies (apart from those based on historical links - ante cedent to the EEC's formation) are strongly influenced by the internal economic policies of the Common Market - especially by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). At the present time, the Community finds itself, both in ternally and externally, at a crossroads. This crossroads takes the form of a choice between 'protectionism' or 'open ness'. Unfortunately, present evidence suggests that currently and in the immediately foreseeable future the former option has been chosen by the EEC.

Book Synopsis Limits and Problems of European Integration by : Ernst B. Haas
Download or read book Limits and Problems of European Integration written by Ernst B. Haas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: by B. LANDHEER The Grotius Seminarium has as its purpose the study of international problems under the aspect of "living and cooperating in one world." Its Conference of May 30-June 2, I96I on "Limits and Problems of European integration" attempted to view European integration within the framework of this general goal as is somewhat implied in its title. "The limits of European integration" lie in the necessity of fitting it in the wider framework of international cooperation, while its problems lie in the various interpretations and concretizations of its own goals, ab out which there are a number of different viewpoints. It could be stated that the European is faced with three sets of problems: the creation of a more unified world as a global problem; the regional integration of Europe; and, thirdly, the continuation of more strictly national interests. It is not justified to assume that these three circles of interest are automatically complementary: they are often antagonistic, and a "philosophy of integration" would have to arrive at a structural presentation of those various values and of tbeir interrelatedness. While it is obviously not possible for a small Conference to give those problems their full weight, it is nevertheless hoped that the essays combined in this volume raise a number of relevant questions and contribute to the elaboration of some more concrete problems.
Book Synopsis Israel’s Path to Europe by : Gadi Heimann
Download or read book Israel’s Path to Europe written by Gadi Heimann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relations between the new state of Israel and the European Union in the first twenty years of the Community’s existence were a major policy issue given the background of the Holocaust and the way the new nation was established. This book focuses on Israel-European Community relations from 1957 to 1975 - from the signing of the Treaty of Rome (1957), which officially established the Common Market, to the conclusion of Israel’s Free Trade Agreement with the Community. It reveals a new and key facet of Israeli diplomacy during the country's infancy, joining the many studies concerning Israel's relations with the United States, France, Germany and Britain.
