Book Synopsis North Africa, Colonialism and the EU by : Volkan Ipek
Download or read book North Africa, Colonialism and the EU written by Volkan Ipek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the postcolonial nationalism theory of Morocco focusing on the nation’s membership application to the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1987 through the initiatives of King Hassan II. The project examines why states, such as Morocco, that have been geographically beyond the classical European borders felt European in terms of self-identity. The author uses a comparative approach, studying Tunisia, Algeria, Malta, Cyprus, to postulate why these states have opted not to apply for EEC. This work brings a new approach to the Europe-Africa relations and revisits the concept of the European enlargement.
Book Synopsis Bridges and Barriers by : Filippos Pierros
Download or read book Bridges and Barriers written by Filippos Pierros and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-03 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1999, Bridges and Barriers is a detailed study of the European Union’s Mediterranean Policy from the initial agreements in the 1960s to the recent Euro-Mediterranean Partnership . The scope of this analysis includes the Maghreb and Mashreq countries in addition to Turkey, Malta, Israel, the Occupied Territories and Cyprus. The authors argue that the limited success of trade and development policy in this region resulted from endogenous and exogenous factors: examples of the former include the lack of the political will necessary to implement trade, aid and reform policies, while the latter include the energy crisis of the 1970s, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Cold War.
Book Synopsis Building Postwar Europe by : Anne Deighton
Download or read book Building Postwar Europe written by Anne Deighton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controversy surrounds the construction of postwar European institutions. Did West European states simply respond to American pressure and Cold-War politics? How important was federalist idealism, as opposed to economic and power political factors to decision-makers? These studies, by an international team of historians, examine the motivations of national political leaders and their officials. Topics covered include British and French officials, European integration and military policies; German, Italian, Belgian and Dutch attitudes; Britain and the first attempt to join the EEC; and the covert relationship between the USA and the European federalists.

Book Synopsis Immigration Law in the European Community by : Elspeth Guild
Download or read book Immigration Law in the European Community written by Elspeth Guild and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immigration law continues to be an issue of substantial interest in the European Union. The institutions and the Member States are formulating the type of immigration law which the Union will have following the substantial move of competence in the field from Member State level to the Union with the amendments to the EC Treaty introduced by the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1999. This is a particularly important period within which to take stock of the existing immigration law of the European Union and how it has been developed. In order to understand the current law and lay the foundations for the future, a historical analysis of the development of European Union immigration law is needed. This volume charts the development of European Community immigration law from the conclusion of the EEC Treaty to the present day, first focussing on the development of the law relating to Community nationals and their third country national dependents, then looking at the extension of Community immigration law to third country nationals through agreements between their states of origin and the EC. Special attention is given to the rights of Turkish workers under the agreement between Turkey and the EC and the possibilities of residence and economic activity for nationals of the Central and Eastern European countries under the Europe Agreements. The centre of analysis of this book is the individual migrant: what are the rights and duties of the individual and what is his or her relationship of rights on the one hand with the Member State and on the other hand with the European Community? This book examines the structure and content of European Community immigration law from the perspective of the individual most closely affected by that law.
