Book Synopsis Political Economy of Capitalisms by : Robert Boyer
Download or read book Political Economy of Capitalisms written by Robert Boyer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-03 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the English language translation of the French publication Économie Politique des Capitalismes. Research in this book presents institutional and historical macroeconomics, through an analysis of wage-labour nexus, innovation systems, monetary and financial systems, integration into the world economy, formation of economic policy configurations, and the history of economic theories. In doing so, the book addresses how and why economic regularities change in long run, and why do macroeconomic adjustments differ across countries within the same historical period. It shows how institutional changes that have occurred since the 1970s and the research on the transformation of the American and French capitalism, have led to the emergence of a research agenda, known as Régulation Theory. Readers would understand the permanent transformations of capitalism and its crises, given the book’s inclusion of long-term historical studies, systematic international comparisons for the contemporary period, and the exploration of the institutional and social foundations of microeconomics which has led to the evolution of various brands of capitalism. This translated work includes a Foreword by Associate Professor Elsa Lafaye de Micheaux and Professor Thomas Lamarche.

Book Synopsis Regional Integration – Europe and Asia Compared by : Woosik Moon
Download or read book Regional Integration – Europe and Asia Compared written by Woosik Moon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to examine and compare the integration process in both Europe and Asia, and to draw some possible lessons for East Asia from the European experience, which culminated with the establishment of the economic and monetary union. The book embraces the political dimension of integration (peace and security), economic, trade and monetary aspects, and cultural aspects. Written by well-known experts in the field of integration, this book represents one of the first attempts at comparing Europe and Asia in the process of integration, by incorporating the latest developments in the field. The main theme of the book - integration in Asia from a comparative perspective - has been relatively unexplored as most experts in the field of integration are also 'area experts' (i.e. European integration experts or Asian experts). The contributors to the book provide a distinctive perspective based upon their understanding of integration (political, economic, and socio-cultural) across various regions of the world.

La tentation de faire du salaire un prix comme un autre, soumis aux variations de l'offre et de la demande, a été battue en brèche par le constat empirique de la persistance d'écarts de salaires inexplicables et surtout par la montée et l'ampleur du chômage. « Copyright Electre »
Book Synopsis Stakeholder Theory by : M. Bonnafous-Boucher
Download or read book Stakeholder Theory written by M. Bonnafous-Boucher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-10-11 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New standards of corporate behaviour have been established in developed countries, obliging them to record information about the 'triple bottom line' in their annual reports. Corporations, especially multinational companies, have had to develop new strategic orientations. Research on social, environmental and overall ethical behaviour of companies has been developed. The concept of stakeholder has simultaneously gained a kind of 'metaphoric evidence'. The book comments on the American theoretical foundations of the notion of Corporate Social Responsibility, and more specifically, the concept of the stakeholder, and it defines a European perspective.

Book Synopsis The Employee by : Jean-Christian Vinel
Download or read book The Employee written by Jean-Christian Vinel and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2013-07-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A political, legal, intellectual, and social history of employment in America In the present age of temp work, telecommuting, and outsourcing, millions of workers in the United States find themselves excluded from the category of "employee"—a crucial distinction that would otherwise permit unionization and collective bargaining. Tracing the history of the term since its entry into the public lexicon in the nineteenth century, Jean-Christian Vinel demonstrates that the legal definition of "employee" has always been politically contested and deeply affected by competing claims on the part of business and labor. Unique in the Western world, American labor law is premised on the notion that "no man can serve two masters"—workers owe loyalty to their employer, which in many cases is incompatible with union membership. The Employee: A Political History historicizes this American exception to international standards of rights and liberties at work, revealing a little known part of the business struggle against the New Deal. Early on, progressives and liberals developed a labor regime that, intending to restore amicable relations between employer and employee, sought to include as many workers as possible in the latter category. But in the 1940s this language of social harmony met with increasing resistance from businessmen, who pressed their interests in Congress and the federal courts, pushing for an ever-narrower definition of "employee" that excluded groups such as foremen, supervisors, and knowledge workers. A cultural and political history of American business and law, The Employee sheds historical light on contemporary struggles for economic democracy and political power in the workplace.

Book Synopsis Organizations and Working Time Standards by : Jens Thoemmes
Download or read book Organizations and Working Time Standards written by Jens Thoemmes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective bargaining between employers and trade unions has profoundly changed working conditions in companies around the globe. But why do we start work at the age of 10, 16, 18 or 24? Why do we work 6, 8, 10 or more hours a day? These questions are becoming increasingly pertinent as working norms are fractured and fragmented by country. This book brings an entirely new perspective to our understanding of changes in working time. In both the UK and the US, effective legal or collectively-bargained regulation of working time has been limited over the last 20 years, to the extent that its disappearance is seen as almost unproblematic. Here author Jens Thoemmes sheds light on this transition and its economic implications with a fully evidenced sociological account, based particularly on original research into cases of working time standards in France and Germany. This book addresses the whole process of working time regulation over the last twenty years, evaluating the activities of trade unions, employers, and the State. While theories of industrial relations have already addressed the issue of markets in the context of collective bargaining, this book draws connections between time and markets, places these transitions in their historical contexts, and illustrates the importance of this movement crossing borders and cultures.
