Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. P. B.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Indigenous Perceptions of the End of the World by : Rosalyn Bold
Download or read book Indigenous Perceptions of the End of the World written by Rosalyn Bold and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-29 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume constructs a ‘cosmopolitics’ of climate change, consulting small-scale sustainable communities on whether the world is ending and why, and how we can take action to prevent it. By comparing scientific and indigenous accounts of the same phenomenon, contributors seek to broaden Western understandings of what climate change constitutes. In this context, existing cosmologies are challenged, opening spaces for hegemonic narratives to enter into conversation with the non-modern and construct ‘worlds otherwise’—situations of world change and renewal through climate change. Bold brings together perspectives from Central America, Mexico, the Amazon, and the Andes to converse with scientific narratives of climate change and create cracks that bring new worlds into being for readers.

Book excerpt: Ecocritics and Ecoskeptics examines environmental themes and questions about the evolving relationship between humans and animals in nine modern and contemporary French novels. Considering arguments from both environmentalists and ecoskeptics, it concludes that, far from distancing itself from humanism as it often has, environmentalism must embrace an inclusive and ecological humanism.
Book Synopsis Fables of the Law by : Daniela Carpi
Download or read book Fables of the Law written by Daniela Carpi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest development concerning the metaphorical use of the fairy tale is the legal perspective. The law had and has recourse to fairy tales in order to speak of the nomos and its subversion, of the politically correct and of the various means that have been used to enforce the law. Fairy tales are a fundamental tool to examine legal procedures and structures in their many failings and errors. Therefore, we have privileged the term "fables" of the law just to stress the ethical perspective: they are moral parables that often speak of justice miscarried and justice sought. Law and jurists are creators of "fables" on the view that law is born out of the facts (ex facto ius oritur) so that there is a need for narrative coherence both on the level of the case and the level of legislation (or turned the other way around: what does it mean if no such coherence is found?). This is especially of interest given the influx of all kinds of new technologies that are "fabulous" in themselves and hard to incorporate in traditional doctrinal schemes and thus in the construction of a new reality.
