Book Synopsis Principles of French Law by : John Bell
Download or read book Principles of French Law written by John Bell and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2008-03-27 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of French Law offers a comprehensive introduction to French law and the French legal system in terms which a common lawyer can understand. The authors give an explanation of the institutions, rules and techniques that characterize the major branches of French law. The chapters provide the reader with a clear sense of the questions that French lawyers see as important and how they would answer them. In the ten years since the publication of the first edition, French law has changed in significant ways. European Union law and the European Convention on Human Rights have had a significant impact, especially on procedural law and family law. There has been a new Commercial Code, major legislation on divorce, succession and criminal law, as well as significant developments in the Constitution. In addition, there have been considerable developments in the case-law and a much discussed proposal for reform of major areas of the law of obligations. The chapters present not only the rules of law, but, where appropriate, the principles and values underlying the system. Considerable use is made of juristic literature and of examples from French case law. The book is designed for students studying French law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and as preliminary reading for students about to study in France. It will also serve as an initial point of reference for scholars embarking on a study of French law.

This book was released on 2012-11-07 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers topics that are at the intersection of business ethics and governance as they pertain to entrepreneurship and finance. It is the first focused work that links entrepreneurship and finance to governance and business ethics, rather than explore them separately. The chapters highlight with empirical data the strong interplay between ethics in organizational efficiency and financial activity, and the role of legal settings and governance in facilitating ethical standards. They discuss novel and timely topics, particularly given the recent financial crisis and discussions on regulating ethical behaviour. This book will encourage future scholars to investigate the role of law and governance in mitigating corruption and facilitating integrity in entrepreneurship and finance.

Download or read book Selling Paris written by Alexia M. Yates and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1871 Paris was a city in crisis. Besieged during the Franco-Prussian War, its buildings and boulevards were damaged, its finances mired in debt, and its new government untested. But if Parisian authorities balked at the challenges facing them, entrepreneurs and businessmen did not. Selling Paris chronicles the people, practices, and politics that spurred the largest building boom of the nineteenth century, turning city-making into big business in the French capital. Alexia Yates traces the emergence of a commercial Parisian housing market, as private property owners, architects, speculative developers, and credit-lending institutions combined to finance, build, and sell apartments and buildings. Real estate agents and their innovative advertising strategies fed these new residential spaces into a burgeoning marketplace. Corporations built empires with tens of thousands of apartments under management for the benefit of shareholders. By the end of the nineteenth century, the Parisian housing market caught the attention of the wider public as newspapers began reporting its ups and downs. The forces that underwrote Paris’s creation as the quintessentially modern metropolis were not only state-centered or state-directed but also grew out of the uncoordinated efforts of private actors and networks. Revealing the ways housing and property became commodities during a crucial period of urbanization, Selling Paris is an urban history of business and a business history of a city that transforms our understanding of both.
Book Synopsis A Revolution in Commerce by : Amalia D. Kessler
Download or read book A Revolution in Commerce written by Amalia D. Kessler and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Kessler shows how the merchants who were associated with the court - and not just elite thinkers and royal reformers - played a key role in reconceptualizing commerce as the credit-fueled private exchange necessary to sustain the social order. Deploying this modern conception of commerce in a variety of contexts, ranging from litigation over negotiable instruments to corporatist battles for status and jurisdiction, these merchants contributed (largely inadvertently and to their ultimate regret) to the demise of corporatism as both conceptual framework and institutional practice. In so doing, they helped bring about the social and political revolution of 1789." "A Revolution in Commerce provides new insights into the rise of commercial modernity by demonstrating the remarkable role played by the law in ideological and institutional transformation."--BOOK JACKET.
