Book Synopsis Functional Analysis by : R.E. Edwards
Download or read book Functional Analysis written by R.E. Edwards and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-25 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book contains an enormous amount of information — mathematical, bibliographical and historical — interwoven with some outstanding heuristic discussions." — Mathematical Reviews. In this massive graduate-level study, Emeritus Professor Edwards (Australian National University, Canberra) presents a balanced account of both the abstract theory and the applications of linear functional analysis. Written for readers with a basic knowledge of set theory, general topology, and vector spaces, the book includes an abundance of carefully chosen illustrative examples and excellent exercises at the end of each chapter. Beginning with a chapter of preliminaries on set theory and topology, Dr. Edwards then presents detailed, in-depth discussions of vector spaces and topological vector spaces, the Hahn-Banach theorem (including applications to potential theory, approximation theory, game theory, and other fields) and fixed-point theorems. Subsequent chapters focus on topological duals of certain spaces: radon measures, distribution and linear partial differential equations, open mapping and closed graph theorems, boundedness principles, duality theory, the theory of compact operators and the Krein-Milman theorem and its applications to commutative harmonic analysis. Clearly and concisely written, Dr. Edwards's book offers rewarding reading to mathematicians and physicists with an interest in the important field of functional analysis. Because of the broad scope of its coverage, this volume will be especially valuable to the reader with a basic knowledge of functional analysis who wishes to learn about parts of the subject other than his own specialties. A comprehensive 32-page bibliography supplies a rich source of references to the basic literature.

Book Synopsis The Best of I.F. Stone by : I. F. Stone
Download or read book The Best of I.F. Stone written by I. F. Stone and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2009-04-29 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Izzy Stone was a reporter, a radical, an idealist, a scholar and, it is clear, a writer whose insights have more than stood the test of time. More than fifteen years after his death, this collection of his work from I.F. Stone's Weekly and elsewhere is astonishing in its relevance to our age, addressing the clash between national security and individual liberty, the protection of minorities, economic fairness, social justice, and the American military abroad. The core of Stone's genius was his newsletter, I.F. Stone's Weekly, published from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. His meticulous dissection of the news was unsurpassed, a direct descendent of the great pamphleteers like Thomas Paine, and a forerunner to the best of today's political blogs. Stone's brilliant, investigative reporting; his wonderful, impassioned style; and his commitment to his values all make this collection an inspiration, and a revelation.

This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The A B C's of the Twenty-One Demands The purpose of this discussion of the. Twenty-one De mands by Japan upon China in 1915 is to visualize to the Americans the exact meaning of this curious phase of Oriental diplomacy in its relationship to the traditional American policy of the Open Door of Equal Opportunity ln the Far East. We have tried seriously by paraphrasing the Demands to show what they would have meant had they been applied to the United States instead of the Republic of China. Since the chief purposes back of the Conference on Limitation of Armament and Pacific Far Eastern Problems are in the re-establishment of the-doctrine of the open door and to obtain international recognition of the principle of the integrity of China, we hope that this booklet may be of interest in a true understanding of the subject. Other books in this series pertaining to the Conference which have recently been published are, The Shantung Case at the and America's Position on the Shantung Question. Book Synopsis The World's Oldest Alphabet by : Douglas Petrovich
Download or read book The World's Oldest Alphabet written by Douglas Petrovich and published by Hendrickson Academic. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For about 150 years, scholars have attempted to identify the language of the world's first alphabetic script, and to translate some of the inscriptions that use it. Until now, their attempts have accomplished little more than identifying most of the pictographic letters and translating a few of the Semitic words. With the publication of The World's Oldest Alphabet, a new day has dawned. All of the disputed letters have been resolved, while the language has been identified conclusively as Hebrew, allowing for the translation of 16 inscriptions that date from 1842 to 1446 BC. It is the author's reading that these inscriptions expressly name three biblical figures (Asenath, Ahisamach, and Moses) and greatly illuminate the earliest Israelite history in a way that no other book has achieved, apart from the Bible.
