Book Synopsis Behavioral Genetics of the Mouse: Volume 1, Genetics of Behavioral Phenotypes by : Wim E. Crusio
Download or read book Behavioral Genetics of the Mouse: Volume 1, Genetics of Behavioral Phenotypes written by Wim E. Crusio and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume in the new Cambridge Handbooks in Behavioral Genetics series, Behavioral Genetics of the Mouse provides baseline information on normal behaviors, essential in both the design of experiments using genetically modified or pharmacologically treated animals and in the interpretation and analyses of the results obtained. The book offers a comprehensive overview of the genetics of naturally occurring variation in mouse behavior, from perception and spontaneous behaviors such as exploration, aggression, social interactions and motor behaviors, to reinforced behaviors such as the different types of learning. Also included are numerous examples of potential experimental problems, which will aid and guide researchers trying to troubleshoot their own studies. A lasting reference, the thorough and comprehensive reviews offer an easy entrance into the extensive literature in this field, and will prove invaluable to students and specialists alike.
Book Synopsis The Memory System Of The Brain by : Jean Delacour
Download or read book The Memory System Of The Brain written by Jean Delacour and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-04-22 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to describe the memory system of the brain, taking into account all the levels of neural organization: molecule, cell, small network, and anatomical circuit. This synthetic approach is necessary for determining the real mechanisms among the potential ones, that is the neural bases of learning and memory in intact organisms functioning under normal conditions. For this purpose, data from molecular, cellular and behavioral neurobiology, neuropsychology, animal and human psychology, and neural modellization are comprehensively reviewed by leading specialists and brought together in an original synthesis.
Book Synopsis Aversion, Avoidance, and Anxiety by : Trevor Archer
Download or read book Aversion, Avoidance, and Anxiety written by Trevor Archer and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a conference held at the University of Umea, Sweden, these papers discuss the scientific status of the field of aversive learning from historical, affective, clinical, neurobiological, cognitive, neuroethological, and conceptual perspectives. Aversion, Avoidance, Anxiety carries readers through the history of the field's development, looks at the current state of progress, and discusses future research and therapeutic possibilities. The editors provide introductions to each chapter containing both timely information and background data to help readers systhesize and assimilate the information.
Book Synopsis Attention Deficit Disord Pod by : Terje Sagvolden
Download or read book Attention Deficit Disord Pod written by Terje Sagvolden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988. This book grew out of an European Brain and Behaviour Society Workshop on Attention Deficit Disorder, Minimal Brain Dysfunction, Hyperkinetic Syndrome, and related dysfunctions held in Oslo, Norway in 1987. Virtually millions of children and adults suffer from problems variously described as attention deficit disorder (ADD), minimal brain dysfunction (MBD), hyperkinetic syndrome, or, most recently, attention- deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A main conclusion of the conference was that the attention problems of ADD children might be secondary to basic motor-control problems.
Book Synopsis Cellular Mechanisms of Conditioning and Behavioral Plasticity by : D.L. Alkon

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I would like first to thank Charles Woody and his organizing committee for arranging the symposium on the "Cellular Mechanisms of Conditioning and Behavioral Plasticity," which was also a satellite meeting of the International Union of Physiological Sciences 30th International Congress. The proceedings of this symposium are represented by the chapters that follow. During the 1970s, Dr. Woody and co-workers were able to carry out a remarkable series of microelectrode studies, both intracellular and extracellular, of cortical nerve cells during conditioning of the eye-blink response to sound in the intact waking cat. He demonstrated enduring changes in excitability and membrane resistance in pericruciate cortical cells during associative conditioning of the eye blink, changes that are facilitated by ACh and cGMP and reinforced by stimulation of the hypothalamus (the latter con firming the original studies of Voronin). These findings have been of considerable im portance in our attempt to understand the conditioning process at the cellular level.

Download or read book Neurobiology written by R. Gilles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is one of those published from the proceedings of the invited lectures to the First International Congress of Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry I organized at Liege (Belgium) in August 1984 under the auspices of the Section of Comparative Physiology and Biochemistry of the International Union of Biological Sciences. In a general foreword to these different volumes, it seems to me appropriate to consider briefly what may be the comparative approach. Living organisms, beyond the diversity of their morphological forms, have evolved a widespread range of basic solutions to cope with the different problems, both organismal and environmental with which they are faced. Soon after the turn of the century, some biologists realized that these solutions can be best comprehended in the frame work of a comparative approach integrating results of physiological and biochemical studies done at the organismic, cellular and molecular levels. The development of this approach amongst both physiologists and biochemists remained, however, extremely slow until recently.
