Book excerpt: The papers in this volume comprise the refereed proceedings of the conference 'Artificial Intelligence in Theory and Practice' (IFIP AI 2006), which formed part of the 19th World Computer Congress of IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing (WCC- 2006), in Santiago, Chile in August 2006. The conference is organised by the IFIP Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence (Technical Committee 12) and its Working Group 12.5 (Artificial Intelligence Applications). All papers were reviewed by at least two members of our Programme Committee. The best papers were selected for the conference and are included in this volume. The international nature of IFIP is amply reflected in the large number of countries represented here. The conference featured invited talks by Rose Dieng, John Atkinson, John Debenham and myself. IFIP AI 2006 also included the Second IFIP Symposium on Professional Practice in Artificial Intelligence, organised by Professor John Debenham, which ran alongside the refereed papers. I should like to thank the conference chair. Professor Debenham for all his efforts in organising the Symposium and the members of our programme committee for reviewing an unexpectedly large number of papers to a very tight deadline. This is the latest in a series of conferences organised by IFIP Technical Committee 12 dedicated to the techniques of Artificial Intelligence and their real-world applications. The wide range and importance of these applications is clearly indicated by the papers in this volume. Further information about TCI 2 can be found on our website http://www.ifiptcl2.org.

This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book a new model for data classification was developed. This new model is based on the competitive neural network Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) and type-2 fuzzy logic. This computational model consists of the hybridization of the aforementioned techniques, using a fuzzy logic system within the competitive layer of the LVQ network to determine the shortest distance between a centroid and an input vector. This new model is based on a modular LVQ architecture to further improve its performance on complex classification problems. It also implements a data-similarity process for preprocessing the datasets, in order to build dynamic architectures, having the classes with the highest degree of similarity in different modules. Some architectures were developed in order to work mainly with two datasets, an arrhythmia dataset (using ECG signals) for classifying 15 different types of arrhythmias, and a satellite images segments dataset used for classifying six different types of soil. Both datasets show interesting features that makes them interesting for testing new classification methods.

Book excerpt: This book includes chapters related to the analysis of cultural differences as a tool to enrich tacit knowledge and make processes more efficient, the factors that influence job satisfaction and the value of social capital as a competitive strategy to achieve productivity and competitiveness of organizations, in addition to research of the utmost importance to discover the facets of the diamond with respect to the symbolic capital of the organizations where Generation Z will work and how it will discover the best time to establish an innovation ecosystem that will influence its work trajectory. Industry 4.0 requires a major paradigm shift, since human capital is a source of competitive advantage. Being competitive enables to a company, a region, a society or a country the power to advance in different areas, contributing to the benefit of a social group, therefore, and organizations need to make efforts that lead to adding value and generate a competitive advantage. Industrial applications based on artificial intelligence can change our lives in just one generation. The chapters in this book show progress and challenges related to real-world applications, as well as the need to strengthen human capital to achieve systemic and comprehensive competitiveness required in the XXI century.

Book excerpt: The Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI), a yearly international conference series organized by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intel- gence (SMIA), is a major international AI forum and the main event in the academic life of the country’s growing AI community. In 2008 Mexico celebrates the 50th an- versary of development of computer science in the country: in 1958 the first computer was installed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Nowadays, computer science is the country’s fastest growing research area. The proceedings of the previous MICAI events were published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series, vol. 1793, 2313, 2972, 3789, 4293, and 4827. Since its foundation in 2000, the conference has been growing in popularity, and improving in quality. This volume contains the papers presented at the oral session of the 7th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2008, held October 27–31, 2008, in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico. The conference received for evaluation 363 submissions by 1,032 authors from 43 countries (see Tables 1 and 2). This volume contains revised versions of 94 papers by 308 authors from 28 countries selected - cording to the results of an international reviewing process. Thus the acceptance rate was 25.9%. The book is structured into 20 thematic fields representative of the main current areas of interest for the AI community, plus a section of invited papers:

Soft Computing (SC) consists of several intelligent computing paradigms, including fuzzy logic, neural networks, and evolutionary al- rithms, which can be used to produce powerful hybrid intelligent systems. The book is organized in five main parts, which contain a group of papers around a similar subject. The first part consists of papers with the main theme of intelligent control, which are basically papers that use hybrid systems to solve particular problems of control. The second part contains papers with the main theme of pattern recognition, which are basically papers using soft computing techniques for achieving pattern recognition in different applications. The third part contains papers with the themes of intelligent agents and social systems, which are papers that apply the ideas of agents and social behavior to solve real-world problems. The fourth part contains papers that deal with the hardware implementation of intelligent systems for solving particular problems. The fifth part contains papers that deal with modeling, simulation and optimization for real-world applications.
