Download or read book ARPACK Users' Guide written by Richard B. Lehoucq and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a guide to understanding and using the software package ARPACK to solve large algebraic eigenvalue problems. The software described is based on the implicitly restarted Arnoldi method, which has been heralded as one of the three most important advances in large scale eigenanalysis in the past ten years. The book explains the acquisition, installation, capabilities, and detailed use of the software for computing a desired subset of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of large (sparse) standard or generalized eigenproblems. It also discusses the underlying theory and algorithmic background at a level that is accessible to the general practitioner.

Book Synopsis Matrix Algorithms by : G. W. Stewart
Download or read book Matrix Algorithms written by G. W. Stewart and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2001-08-30 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume in a projected five-volume survey of numerical linear algebra and matrix algorithms. It treats the numerical solution of dense and large-scale eigenvalue problems with an emphasis on algorithms and the theoretical background required to understand them. The notes and reference sections contain pointers to other methods along with historical comments. The book is divided into two parts: dense eigenproblems and large eigenproblems. The first part gives a full treatment of the widely used QR algorithm, which is then applied to the solution of generalized eigenproblems and the computation of the singular value decomposition. The second part treats Krylov sequence methods such as the Lanczos and Arnoldi algorithms and presents a new treatment of the Jacobi-Davidson method. These volumes are not intended to be encyclopedic, but provide the reader with the theoretical and practical background to read the research literature and implement or modify new algorithms.

Download or read book Eigenvalue Problems in Power Systems written by Federico Milano and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a comprehensive taxonomy of non-symmetrical eigenvalues problems as applied to power systems. The book bases all formulations on mathematical concept of “matrix pencils” (MPs) and considers both regular and singular MPs for the eigenvalue problems. Each eigenvalue problem is illustrated with a variety of examples based on electrical circuits and/or power system models and controllers and related data are provided in the appendices of the book. Numerical methods for the solution of all considered eigenvalue problems are discussed. The focus is on large scale problems and, hence, attention is dedicated to the performance and scalability of the methods. The target of the book are researchers and graduated students in Electrical & Computer Science Engineering, both taught and research Master programmes as well as PhD programmes and it: explains eigenvalue problems applied into electrical power systems explains numerical examples on applying the mathematical methods, into studying small signal stability problems of realistic and large electrical power systems includes detailed and in-depth analysis including non-linear and other advanced aspects provides theoretical understanding and advanced numerical techniques essential for secure operation of power systems provides a comprehensive set of illustrative examples that support theoretical discussions

Download or read book Templates for the Solution of Algebraic Eigenvalue Problems written by Zhaojun Bai and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large-scale problems of engineering and scientific computing often require solutions of eigenvalue and related problems. This book gives a unified overview of theory, algorithms, and practical software for eigenvalue problems. It organizes this large body of material to make it accessible for the first time to the many nonexpert users who need to choose the best state-of-the-art algorithms and software for their problems. Using an informal decision tree, just enough theory is introduced to identify the relevant mathematical structure that determines the best algorithm for each problem.

This book was released on 2022-01-18 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solution of the generalized eigenvalue problem is one of the computationally most challenging operations in the field of numerical linear algebra. A well known algorithm for this purpose is the QZ algorithm. Although it has been improved for decades and is available in many software packages by now, its performance is unsatisfying for medium and large scale problems on current computer architectures. In this thesis, a replacement for the QZ algorithm is developed. The design of the new spectral divide and conquer algorithms is oriented towards the capabilities of current computer architectures, including the support for accelerator devices. The thesis describes the co-design of the underlying mathematical ideas and the hardware aspects. Closely connected with the generalized eigenvalue value problem, the solution of Sylvester-like matrix equations is the concern of the second part of this work. Following the co-design approach, introduced in the first part of this thesis, a flexible framework covering (generalized) Sylvester, Lyapunov, and Stein equations is developed. The combination of the new algorithms for the generalized eigenvalue problem and the Sylvester-like equation solves problems within an hour, whose solution took several days incorporating the QZ and the Bartels-Stewart algorithm.

Book Synopsis Parallel Numerical Algorithms by : David E. Keyes
Download or read book Parallel Numerical Algorithms written by David E. Keyes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, designed for computational scientists and engineers working on applications requiring the memories and processing rates of large-scale parallelism, leading algorithmicists survey their own field-defining contributions, together with enough historical and bibliographical perspective to permit working one's way to the frontiers. This book is distinguished from earlier surveys in parallel numerical algorithms by its extension of coverage beyond core linear algebraic methods into tools more directly associated with partial differential and integral equations - though still with an appealing generality - and by its focus on practical medium-granularity parallelism, approachable through traditional programming languages. Several of the authors used their invitation to participate as a chance to stand back and create a unified overview, which nonspecialists will appreciate.
Book Synopsis Using Parallel Banded Linear System Solvers in Generalized Eigenvalue Problems by : Hong Zhang
Download or read book Using Parallel Banded Linear System Solvers in Generalized Eigenvalue Problems written by Hong Zhang and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Subspace iteration is a reliable and cost effective method for solving positive definite banded symmetric generalized eigenproblems, especially in the case of large scale problems. This paper discusses an algorithm that makes use of two parallel banded solvers in subspace iteration. A shift is introduced to decompose the banded linear systems into relatively independent subsystems and to accelerate the iterations. With this shift, an eigenproblem is mapped efficiently into the memories of a multiprocessor and a high speed-up is obtained for parallel implementations. An optimal shift is a shift that balances total computation and communication costs. Under certain conditions, we show how to estimate an optimal shift analytically using the decay rate for the inverse of a banded matrix, and how to improve this estimate. Computational results on iPSC/2 and iPSC/860 multiprocessors are presented."
