Book Synopsis Conceptualising Property Law by : Yaëll Emerich
Download or read book Conceptualising Property Law written by Yaëll Emerich and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptualising Property Law offers a transsystemic and integrated approach to common law and civil law property. Property law has traditionally been excluded from comparative law analysis, common law and civil law property being deemed irreconcilable. With this book, Ya'll Emerich aims to dispel the myth that comparison between these two systems of property is impossible. By establishing a dialogue between common law and civil law property, it becomes clear that the two legal traditions share common ground in the way that they address legal, cultural, and social issues related to property and wealth.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Property Law by : Christian von Bar
Download or read book Foundations of Property Law written by Christian von Bar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-08-25 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Property Law: Things as Objects of Property Rights is an abridged translation of the first volume of Christian von Bar's Gemeineuropäisches Sachenrecht -a milestone in European private law theory, and in comparative property law more broadly. Radical in content and scope, the English version examines the dynamics of interaction between the objects, contents, and holders of property. The conceptual framework of 'property law' is presented as a domain of erga omnes monopoly rights that govern the relationship between persons and objects of value. Within that framework, a reciprocal relationship is illustrated between "property rights" and their objects; property rights play a role in constituting the very objects ("things") in which they are held. With comprehensive comparative analysis, insights are gleaned from all the jurisdictions of the European Union and the United Kingdom, presenting a critical evaluation of property law systems in both Common and Civil Law traditions. This book joins all the national legal systems in a single inquiry, treating their traditions and arguments with the respect they deserve and taking advantage of the knowledge embodied in the diversity of European private law. A scholastic work, offering deep and unique insights into the European property law systems, Foundations of Property Law will quickly become a go-to resource for anyone interested in European private law and comparative property law.

Book Synopsis Human Rights in Crisis by : Geneviève Souillac
Download or read book Human Rights in Crisis written by Geneviève Souillac and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human Rights in Crisis uniquely documents recent ideas on democracy and human rights in the current French intellectual, social, and political context, arguing that the French emphasis on the interdependence between democracy and human rights as a tool for the critique and renewal of democracy is a valid contribution to the global debate on the political philosophy and the ethics of human rights. Centering on the work of four prominent, contemporary French political philosophers, Blandine Kriegel, Marcel Gauchet, Luc Ferry, and Etienne Balibar, Geneviève Souillac expertly examines the themes of contestation and reform that are the driving force in the French approach to democracy and human rights.

Book Synopsis A World In Transition: Humankind and Nature by : Diederik Aerts
Download or read book A World In Transition: Humankind and Nature written by Diederik Aerts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A World in Transition, Humankind and Nature is appropriately entitled after its aim for an intrinsic property of reality: change. Of major concern, in this era of transformation, is the extensive and profound interaction of humankind with nature. The global-scale social and technological project of humankind definitely involves a myriad of changes of the ecosphere. This book develops, from the call for an interdisciplinary synthesis and respect of plurality, acknowledging the evolving scientific truth, to the need for an integrated but inevitably provisional worldview. Contributors from different parts of the world focus on four modes of change: (i) Social change and the individual condition, (ii) Complex evolution and fundamental emergent transformations, (iii) Ecological transformation and responsibility inquiries, (iv) The economic-ecological and socio-technical equilibria. Primarily concerned with the deep transformations of humankind and of the relationship between humans and nature, it is addressed to a broad and thinking public that wants to be kept informed.

Book Synopsis Consumable Metaphors by : Ceri Crossley
Download or read book Consumable Metaphors written by Ceri Crossley and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the various definitions of animal nature proposed by nineteenth-century currents of thought in France. It is based on an examination of a number of key thinkers and writers, some well known (for example, Michelet and Lamartine), others largely forgotten (for example, Gleizes and Reynaud). At the centre of the book lies the idea that knowledge of animals is often knowledge of something else, that the primary referentiality is overlaid with additional levels of meaning. In nineteenth-century France thinking about animals (their future and their past) became a way of thinking about power relations in society, for example about the status of women and the problem of the labouring classes. This book analyses how animals as symbols externalize and mythologize human fears and wishes, but it also demonstrates that animals have an existence in and for themselves and are not simply useful counters functioning within discourse.

Book Synopsis Averroes’ Middle Commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics by : Maroun Aouad
Download or read book Averroes’ Middle Commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics written by Maroun Aouad and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-13 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Averroes’ Middle Commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics reveals the original version, previously considered lost, of a landmark work in Arabic philosophy. Undoubtedly authored by the Cordovan thinker Averroes (1126-1198), this “middle” commentary is distinct from the Long Commentary and the Short Commentary in method, several doctrinal elements, and scope (it includes books M and N of the Stagirite’s treatise). These points and the transmission of the Middle Commentary at the crossroads of Arabic, Hebrew, and Latin traditions are addressed in the introduction, which also establishes that the work was extensively quoted by the mystical philosopher Ibn Sabʿīn (13th c.). The edition of the text and the facing translation follow. At the end of the book are Ibn Sabʿīn’s quotations, along with extensive indexes.
