Stetson and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Round Pond Creek Dam is located in the Town of Greece, Monroe County, New York. The dam is used as a storm water retention facility to control flows in Round Pond Creek downstream from the facility. The visual inspection revealed that the dam is generally in good condition with only minor erosion due to motor bike traffic on the embankment. Both the control outlet and the emergency spillway are in good condition and no signs of structural instability were detected. The following specific items should be addressed by the Owner: Continual surveillance should be maintained on the drainage ditch at the toe of the downstream slope near the center of the embankment to detect any erosion which could occur from high flows in this channel, and Riprap slope protection at the downstream end of the control outlet should be replaced.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lake, as a body of water, is in continuous interaction with the rocks and soils in its drainage basin, the atmosphere, and surface and groundwaters. Human industrial and agricultural activities introduce new inputs and processes into lake systems. This volume is a selection of ten contributions dealing with diverse aspects of lake systems, including such subjects as the geological controls of lake basins and their histories, mixing and circulation patterns in lakes, gaseous exchange between the water and atmosphere, and human input to lakes through atmospheric precipitation and surficial runoff. This work was written with a dual goal in mind: to serve as a textbook and to provide professionals with in-depth expositions and discussions of the more important aspects of lake systems.

Download or read book Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair written by Thomas R. Biebighauser and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wetlands are a vital part of the landscape and ecology of the United States, providing food and shelter for species ranging from the beautiful wood duck to the tiny fairy shrimp. These areas provide critical habitat for fish and wildlife, protect communities from flooding, and recharge groundwater supplies—yet they continue to be destroyed at an alarming rate. A detailed analysis of wetlands management, Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair is a comprehensive guide to the past, present, and future of wetland recovery in the United States. The book includes a historical overview of wetland destruction and repair over the past two hundred years and also serves as a unique resource for anyone, from novice to engineer, interested in the process of wetland restoration. Author Thomas R. Biebighauser draws from his own vast experience in building and repairing more than 950 wetlands across North America. Included are numerous photographs and case studies that highlight successes of past projects. Detailed, step-by-step instructions guide the reader through the planning and implementation of each restoration action. Biebighauser also provides a number of effective strategies for initiating and improving funding for wetlands programs. Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair is essential reading for all who care about and for these important ecosystems.
