Book Synopsis Niebla de Sortilegios by : Rufino Pérez
Download or read book Niebla de Sortilegios written by Rufino Pérez and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After generations of being rendered virtually invisible by the US academy in critical anthologies and literary histories, writing by Latin Americans of African ancestry has become represented by a booming corpus of intellectual and critical investigation. This volume aims to provide an introduction to the literary worlds and perceptions of national culture and identity of authors from Spanish-America, Brazil, and uniquely, Equatorial Guinea, thus contextually connecting Africa to the history of Spanish colonization. The importance of Latin America literature to the discipline of African Diaspora studies is immeasurable, and this edited collection provides a ripe cultural context for critical comparative analysis among the vast geographies that encompass African and African Diaspora studies. Scholars in the area of African Diaspora Studies, Black Studies, Latin American Studies, and American literature will be able to utilize the eleven essays in this edition to enhance classroom instruction and further academic research.
Download or read book The Hands of Day written by Pablo Neruda and published by Copper Canyon Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pablo Neruda is one of the world's great poets, and Copper Canyon Press has long been dedicated to publishing translations of his work in bilingual editions. The Hands of Day--at long last translated into English in its entirety--pronounces Neruda's desire to take part in the great human making of the day. Moved by the guilt of never having worked with his hands, Neruda opens with the despairing confession, "Why did I not make a broom? / Why was I given hands at all?" The themes of hands and work grow in significance as Neruda celebrates the carpenters, longshoremen, blacksmiths, and bakers--those laborers he admires most--and shares his exuberant adoration for the earth and the people upon it. Yes, I am guilty of what I did not do, of what I did not sow, did not cut, did not measure, of never having rallied myself to populate lands, of having sustained myself in the deserts and of my voice speaking with the sand. Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) was a Chilean poet and diplomat who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971. Recognized during his life as "a people's poet," he is considered one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. William O'Daly is the best-selling translator of six of Pablo Neruda's books, including The Book of Questions and The Sea and the Bells. His work as a translator has been featured on The Today Show.
Book Synopsis Enciclopedia Akal de Emblemas Españoles Ilustrados by : Antonio Bernat Vistarini
Download or read book Enciclopedia Akal de Emblemas Españoles Ilustrados written by Antonio Bernat Vistarini and published by Ediciones AKAL. This book was released on 1999-05-27 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Three Roses and a Carnation by : Elcor Aragundi
Download or read book Three Roses and a Carnation written by Elcor Aragundi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-02-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elcor Vincent Aragundi lived his career as a professional racing jockey, but as a native from Ecuador born in Quito, he was first inspired with poetry by his mother when he was still a boy. Between then and the moment he had grown, he began to write poetry in Spanish when he was still in school. He continued to write through the years even after he came to the United States back in March of 1954. Not knowing a word of English when he stepped off the plane in Florida, he ended up getting lost at a bus stop to eat. He returned unable to match the bus he was on with that of the number he held. The bus driver had unknowingly left without him. It took two hours before they could find someone that would translate. English has always been a huge struggle for him, though he desperately wanted to learn. It at times would leave him frustrated from the defied opportunities from his inability to communicate and adapt into the language. That was then; now a proud American citizen celebrating his fifty-fifth year in the United States, he is a renowned poet with trophies, medals, and merits awarded to him for his work, his passion, and his art. Recognized by the International Society of Poets in Owings Mills, Maryland, “A Flight in the Night” was published back in 2002 by the International Library of Poetry. He has been writing in English now for twenty-five years. With over a hundred poems written, half of them reside in Spanish, and the other half in English. His work is not only a milestone but an inspiration of the heart that proves yet that nothing can stand in the way of his love for poetry.
