Book Synopsis Histoire de France Moyen Âge by : Jules Michelet
Download or read book Histoire de France Moyen Âge written by Jules Michelet and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-08-09 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Living Death in Medieval French and English Literature by : Jane Gilbert
Download or read book Living Death in Medieval French and English Literature written by Jane Gilbert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-17 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medieval literature contains many figures caught at the interface between life and death - the dead return to place demands on the living, while the living foresee, organize or desire their own deaths. Jane Gilbert's original study examines the ways in which certain medieval literary texts, both English and French, use these 'living dead' to think about existential, ethical and political issues. In doing so, she shows powerful connections between works otherwise seen as quite disparate, including Chaucer's Book of the Duchess and Legend of Good Women, the Chanson de Roland and the poems of Francois Villon. Written for researchers and advanced students of medieval French and English literature, this book provides original, provocative interpretations of canonical medieval texts in the light of influential modern theories, especially Lacanian psychoanalysis, presented in an accessible and lively way.
Book Synopsis La vie quotidienne au Moyen Age by : Jean Verdon
Download or read book La vie quotidienne au Moyen Age written by Jean Verdon and published by Tempus Perrin. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Archaeology of Medieval Europe 1 by : James Graham-Campbell
Download or read book The Archaeology of Medieval Europe 1 written by James Graham-Campbell and published by Aarhus Universitetsforlag. This book was released on 2007-12-31 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two volumes of The Archaeology of Medieval Europe will together comprise the first complete account of medieval archaeology across Europe. Archaeologists from academic institutions in fifteen countries are collaborating to produce these two books of sixteen thematic chapters each. In addition, every chapter will feature a number of 'box-texts', by specialist contributors, highlighting sites or themes of particular importance. The books will be comprehensively illustrated throughout, in both colour and b/w, including line drawings and specially commissioned maps. This ground-breaking set, which is divided chronologically into two (Vol. 1 extending from the Eighth to Twelfth Centuries AD, and Vol. 2 from the Twelfth to Sixteenth Centuries - to appear 2008), will enable readers to track the development of different cultures, and of regional characteristics, throughout the full extent of medieval Catholic Europe. In addition to revealing shared contexts and technological developments, the complete work will also provide the opportunity for demonstrating the differences that were inevitably present across the Continent - from Iceland to Italy, and from Portugal to Finland - and to study why such differences existed.
Book Synopsis An Historical Geography of France by : Xavier de Planhol
Download or read book An Historical Geography of France written by Xavier de Planhol and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-03-17 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this 1994 book, Xavier de Planhol and Paul Claval, two of France's leading scholars in the field, trace the historical geography of their country from its roots in the Roman province of Gaul to the 1990s. They demonstrate how, for centuries, France was little more than an ideological concept, despite its natural physical boundaries and long territorial history. They examine the relatively late development of a more complex territorial geography, involving political, religious, cultural, agricultural and industrial unities and diversities. The conclusion reached is that only in the twentieth century had France achieved a profound territorial unity and only now are the fragmentations of the past being overwritten.
