Book Synopsis Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full? Reflections on Translation Theory and Practice in Brazil by : Alice Leal
Download or read book Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full? Reflections on Translation Theory and Practice in Brazil written by Alice Leal and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an unprecedented look into the field of translation studies (TS) in Brazil, placing emphasis both on the conflict theory vs. practice and on the reception of poststructuralist thought. The implied debate between the voices heard in the book represents a wide-ranging spectrum of viewpoints not only in TS in Brazil, but also in the humanities in general. Addressing issues such as the institutionalisation of translation, the aim of translation theory and translator training, the impact of poststructuralist thought on TS and the role of multilingualism in the area, this work offers an overview of the field of TS today, while proposing new strategies for translators and translation scholars that go beyond the conflicts between theory and practice and between structuralism and poststructuralism.

Book Synopsis La traducción de literatura árabe contemporánea by : Gonzalo Fernández Parrilla
Download or read book La traducción de literatura árabe contemporánea written by Gonzalo Fernández Parrilla and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2000 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Avant-Garde Cultural Practices in Spain (1914-1936) by :
Download or read book Avant-Garde Cultural Practices in Spain (1914-1936) written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical reinterpretation of the Spanish avant-garde, focusing on narrative, transculturality, and intermediality. Narrative, because it prioritizes the analysis of prose over poetry, against the traditional use of critical literature on the subject up to this point. Transculturality, because the Spanish avant-garde simply cannot be understood without the acknowledgement of its multi-linguistic reality and the transnational scope of the experience of Modernism in Europe – of which Spain was an integral yet underexposed component. And intermediality, because the interrelations of painting, photography, film, and literature articulate a correlation and mutual affect among different media, creating a rich cultural tapestry that needs to be addressed. Contributors: Rosa Berland, Jennifer Duprey, Marcos Eymar, Regina Galasso, Eduardo Gregori, Juan Herrero-Senés, John McCulloch, Andrés Pérez-Simón, Lynn Purkey, Domingo Ródenas de Moya, Evelyn Scaramella and Antonio Sáez Delgado.
Book Synopsis Spanish Film and the Postwar Novel by : Norberto Mínguez-Arranz
Download or read book Spanish Film and the Postwar Novel written by Norberto Mínguez-Arranz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-12-30 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel and the film are two modes of representation based on different aesthetic tools, but both are capable of articulating narrative discourses. In Spanish Film and the Postwar Novel, author Norberto Minguez-Arranz offers a comparative analysis of the methods and mechanisms with which the novel and the film build their stories. A theoretical framework that that puts into perspective such concepts as specificity, representation, and point of view gives way to a comparative study of five Spanish postwar novels and their respective film adaptations: The Family of Pascual Duarte, Time of Silence, The Hive, El Bosque Animado, and Nuevas Amistades. Revealing the existence of cinematic features of the novel and literary features of the cinema, the author examines the ways in which this interdependence has become a permanent aspect of both arts, with mutual influences and a great deal of nonexclusivity of properties. By using this particular time and place as his locus of analytical thought, Minguez-Arranz provides an invaluable examination of two of this century's major creative forms.

Book Synopsis Literary Self-Translation in Hispanophone Contexts - La autotraducción literaria en contextos de habla hispana by : Lila Bujaldón de Esteves
Download or read book Literary Self-Translation in Hispanophone Contexts - La autotraducción literaria en contextos de habla hispana written by Lila Bujaldón de Esteves and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-17 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book contributes to the growing field of self-translation studies by exploring the diversity of roles the practice has in Spanish-speaking contexts of production on both sides of the Atlantic. Part I surveys the presence of self-translation in contemporary Indigenous literatures in Spanish America, with a focus on Mexico and the Mapuche poetry of Chile and Argentina. Part II proposes to incorporate self-translation into the history of Spanish-American literatures- including its relation with colonial multilingual-translation practices, the transfers it allowed between the French and Spanish-American avant-gardes, and the insertion it offered for exiled Republicans in Mexico. Part III develops new reflections on the Iberian realm: on the choice between self and allograph translation Basque writers must face, a new category in Xosé Dasilva’s typology, based on the Galician context, and the need to expand the analysis of directionality in Catalan self-translations. This book brings together contributions from some of the leading international experts in translation and self-translation, and it will be of interest to scholars and students in the fields of Translation Studies, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, Spanish Literature, Spanish American and Latin American Literature, and Amerindian Literatures.
