Book excerpt: French vocabulary book + French dictionary This French vocabulary book contains more than 3000 words and phrases which are grouped by topic to make it easier for you to pick what to learn first. On top of that, the index in the second half of the book provides you with a basic French-English as well as English-French dictionary which makes this a great resource for learners of all levels. What you can expect from this book: This French learning resource is a combination of French vocabulary book and a two-way basic French dictionary: Part 1 - Topic based French vocabulary book: This is the main part of the book and represents a list of chapters each containing French vocabularies for a certain topic. The French vocabularies in the chapters are unsorted on purpose to separate remembering them from a defined alphabetical order. You can start at any chapter and dive directly into the topics that interest you the most. Part 2 - Basic English-French dictionary: The index in the second half of the book can be used as a basic French dictionary to look up words you have learned but can't remember or learn new words you need. Part 3 - Basic French-English dictionary: Easy to use and with just the right amount of words, this third part finishes off with a second index that allows you to look for French words and directly find the English translation How to use this French vocabulary book: Not sure where to start? We suggest you first work your way through the verbs, adjectives and phrases chapters in part one of the book. This will give you a great base for further studying and already enough vocabulary for basic communication. The French dictionaries in part two and three can be used whenever needed to look up words you hear on the street, English words you want to know the French translation for or simply to learn some new words. Some final thoughts: Vocabulary books have been around for centuries and as with so many things that have been around for some time, they are not very fashionable and a bit boring, but they usually work very well. Together with the basic French dictionary parts, this vocabulary book is a great resource to support you throughout the process of learning French and comes in particularly handy at times when there is no internet to look up words and phrases.

Book Synopsis Poulenc: The Life in the Songs by : Graham Johnson
Download or read book Poulenc: The Life in the Songs written by Graham Johnson and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the greatest modernist composers comes alive in this illuminating biography, a must-have for musicians and music-lovers alike. Francis Poulenc (1899–1963) is widely acknowledged as one of the twentieth century’s most significant masters of vocal music —solo, choral, and operatic— quite apart from his achievements in instrumental spheres. But what it cost him, and the determined bravery it took for his unusual talent to thrive, has always been underestimated. In this seminal biography, which will serve as the definitive guide to the songs, acclaimed collaborative pianist Graham Johnson shows that it is in Poulenc’s extraordinary songs, and seeing how they fit into his life —which included crippling guilt on account of his sexuality— that we discover Poulenc heart and soul. With Jeremy Sams’s vibrant new song translations, the first in over forty years, and the insight that comes from a lifetime of performing this music, Johnson provides an essential volume for singers, pianists, listeners, and readers interested in the artistic milieu of modernism in the first half of the twentieth century.

Download or read book Ezourvedam written by Ludo Rocher and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1984-12-31 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ezourvedam, used by Voltaire among others, as sourcebook for the most ancient of religions, was thereupon found to have been a fraud. Actually it was composed by a Christian – the text shows him to have been a French Jesuit missionary, who did not necessarily know Sanskrit – in order to convert Hindus to Christianity. The controversy surrounding the spurious Veda continues, involving a number of scholars and missionaries particularly in the question of whether or not the Veda was composed in Sanskrit or French. In tracing the history of the Ezourvedam Ludo Rocher adds a number of points, one being that the text was definitely first written in French with a view to a later Sanskrit translation or, more likely, to one of several modern Indian vernaculars. This edition is based on the manuscripts of Voltaire and Anquetil du Perron, and, especially, on a third manuscript preserved at the Bibliotheque National in Paris, wrongly catalogued there as Yajurveda. This edition is therefor markedly different from the 1778 edition by the Baron de Sainte-Croix.
