Book Synopsis The European Landscape Convention by : Michael Jones
Download or read book The European Landscape Convention written by Michael Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important and insightful book provides, for the first time, a broad presentation of ongoing research into public participation in landscape conservation, management and planning, following the 2000 European Landscape Convention which came into force in 2004. The book examines both the theory of participation and what lessons can be learnt from specific European examples. It explores in what manner and to what extent the provisions for participation in the European Landscape Convention have been followed up and implemented. It also presents and compares different experiences of participation in selected countries from northern, southern, eastern and western Europe, and provides a critical examination of public participation in practice. However, while the book’s focus is necessarily on Europe, many of the conclusions drawn are of global relevance. The book provides a valuable reference for researchers and advanced students in landscape policies and management, as well as for professionals and others interested in land-use planning and environmental management.

Book Synopsis The European Environment by : European Environment Agency
Download or read book The European Environment written by European Environment Agency and published by Office for Official Publications of the European Communities. This book was released on 2005 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third state and outlook report on the European environment produced by the European Environment Agency (EEA) since 1994. The last report, published in 1999 concluded that, despite 25 years of Community environmental policy, environmental quality in the European Union (EU) was mixed and that the unsustainable development of some key economic sectors was the major barrier to further improvements. That remains the EEA's key conclusion, despite significant progress on some issues demonstrating that environmental policy works. The next report is due in 2010, and the EEA intends to have played its part in reversing unsustainable trends in sectors such as energy, agriculture and transport. This report is in four parts: (A) an integrated assessment of the atmospheric, aquatic and terrestrial environment; (B) a core set of indicators, including pollution, biodiversity, climate change, agriculture, energy, fisheries and transport; (C) country analysis; and (D) a bibliography of EEA publications since 2000.

Download or read book Ruptures written by Martin Holbraad and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruptures brings together leading and emerging international anthropologists to explore the concept of ‘rupture’. Understood as radical and often forceful forms of discontinuity, rupture is the active ingredient of the current sense of a world in turmoil, lying at the heart of some of the most defining experiences of our time: the rise of populist politics, the corollary impulse towards protest and even revolutionary change, as well as moves towards violence and terror, and the responses these moves elicit. Rupture is addressed in selected ethnographic and historical contexts: images of the guillotine in the French revolution; reactions to Trump’s election in the USA; the motivations of young Danes who join ISIS in Syria; ‘butterfly effect’ activism among environmental anarchists in northern Europe; the experiences of political trauma and its ‘repair’ through privately sponsored museums of Mao’s revolution in China; people’s experience of the devastating 2001 earthquake in Gujarat; the ‘inner’ rupture of Protestant faith among Danish nationalist theologians; and the attempt to invent ex nihilo an alphabet for use in Christian prophetic movements in Congo and Angola. Ruptures takes in new directions broader intellectual debates about continuity and change. In particular, by thematising rupture as a radical, sometimes violent, and even brutal form of discontinuity, it adds a sharper critical edge to contemporary discourses, both in social theory and public debate and policy.

Download or read book Cosmococa written by Hélio Oiticica and published by Fundacion E. Constantini. This book was released on 2005 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive edition regarding the first 5 multimedia installations as originally envisioned by artist Oiticica (b. Brazil) and conceived in collaboration with the filmmaker D'Almeida (b. Brazil). The Cosmococa photographic series consist of single rolls of film in accordance with the artist's concept of "quasi-cinema", participative spaces that transcend the cinematographic experience and call into question the contemplative nature of the art object and designed as collective experiences making the spectator an active participant. The present edition is faithful to the artist's original concept in it's presentation of facsimiles of both his notebooks in which the works were conceptualized and Oiticica's own typewritten transcriptions along photographs of installations recently mounted at the Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo and at the Centro de Arte Hélio Oiticica in Rio de Janeiro, two multimedia installations that precede the original photographs for Cosmacoca. The book also contains critical essays by César Oiticica Filho (curator of Projeto Hélio Oiticica), Paulo Herkenhoff and Kátia Maciel.
