Book excerpt: Cette recherche s'insère dans un projet plus large s'intéressant aux mauvais traitements psychologiques (MTP) envers les enfants (Malo, Moreau, Hélie et Lavergne, 2017). Il vise à comprendre si certains groupes ethniques sont proportionnellement plus nombreux ou moins nombreux parmi la clientèle signalée et prise en charge pour MTP au CJM-IU et au CJ Batshaw entre 2007 et 2010. Dans un second temps, il s'agit de documenter les représentations sociales des MTP ou du bon parentage dans un groupe ethnoculturel semblant plus touché par les MTP. Notre recension tente d'abord de définir les mauvais traitements psychologiques et de décrire ses différentes manifestations possibles. Par la suite, l'incidence des MTP et les impacts à court, moyen et long terme sont abordés. Nous présentons également le rôle de la culture qui semble influencer fortement la conduite des parents dans la façon de punir un enfant. Nous avons également analysé par le biais d'une recension des écrits sur les bonnes ou les mauvaises façons d'élever les enfants les caractéristiques des familles impliquées dans cette forme de maltraitance. En effet, nous souhaitions comprendre les représentations de la maltraitance psychologique selon les normes culturelles, en nous intéressant au développement normal des enfants et au comportement parental. Plus précisément, nous avons eu recours dans un premier temps, à l'analyse statistique descriptive pour nous permettre de résumer l'information tirée de l'étude initiale et de voir si un groupe semblait plus nombreux que les autres. Pour ce faire, nous avons considéré seulement les cas de MTP provenant des bases de données du CJM-IU et les Centres de la jeunesse et de la famille Batshaw, soit 9499 premiers signalements. Par la suite, pour répondre au second objectif, nous avons fait une recherche documentaire sur les représentations sociales des MTP ou des bonnes pratiques parentales dans la culture paraissant proportionnellement plus nombreuse. Les résultats ont montré que de manière générale, les jeunes issus de milieux ethnoculturels n'ont pas plus tendance à être proportionnellement plus nombreux parmi les enfants signalés pour MTP que les jeunes qui ne sont pas issus de l'immigration. Par contre, cette différence est considérable en ce qui touche les jeunes provenant des Caraïbes. Malheureusement, aucun document n'a pu être recensé dans la littérature sur cette représentation car nous n'avons eu accès qu'à de l'information concernant les systèmes de protection de la jeunesse en Jamaïque et en Haïti.
