En outre, la gamme de variabilité étudiée va des données géographiques statiques à celles hautement variables. La gestion de telles données soulève de nouveaux problèmes en bases de données. Ces problèmes sont, en particulier, le volume de données, le grand nombre d'états que les opérateurs de bases de données doivent manipuler, mais aussi le manque de versions qui entraîne des requêtes temporelles non déterministes. Pour cela, cette thèse propose une nouvelle approche pour représenter et manipuler ces données. De plus, le modèle proposé uniformise la modélisation d'entités à variabilité discrète avec celle d'entités à variabilité continue. Le modèle de représentation consiste à décrire comment une valeur évolue au cours du temps. D'un point de vue manipulation des données, cette représentation descriptive est transformée, dans le cas de données spatio-temporelles, en une représentation géométrique interne. Ainsi, les requêtes sur des données hautement variables sont résolues en utilisant les techniques algorithmiques géométriques sur la représentation géométrique. Dans le cas de données numériques, la représentation descriptive est transformée en une représentation polynomiale interne. Par conséquent, les requêtes sur de telles données sont résolues en utilisant les techniques algorithmiques numériques sur des polynômes. Le modèle de données proposé est intégré dans une algèbre d'objets complexes. Une nouvelle algèbre manipulant des objets spatio-temporels est ainsi définie. cette thèse propose aussi un langage de requêtes, appelé 4dsql, s'appliquant sur des données spatio-temporelles, ainsi que des techniques d'implémentation pour la mise en oeuvre du modèle

Ils ouvrent ainsi aux chercheurs en histoire des perspectives de croisement d'informations et d'analyse à grande échelle, non seulement de l'évolution de phénomènes spatialisés, mais aussi des interactions entre ces phénomènes et les transformations de l'espace. La représentation d'un espace en transformation au sein d'un SIG implique notamment la création et la manipulation de données spatio-temporelles.Créées à partir des sources d'informations sur l'espace ancien disponibles, celles-ci sont généralement hétérogènes et imparfaites. Les SIG existants ne permettent pas de modéliser et d'intégrer aisément des données hétérogènes et imparfaites au sein de bases de données spatio-temporelles. Nous proposons une approche d'intégration de données géographiques hétérogènes et imparfaites sur l'espace urbain ancien au sein d'un modèle de données spatio-temporelles permettant l'analyse des transformations de cet espace. Ces données sont saisies à partir de plans topographiques. Au travers de plusieurs étapes, allant de l'analyse des sources cartographiques utilisées à un processus semi-automatique d'intégration de données spatio-temporelles, nous proposons une approche générique permettant d'instancier une base de données spatio-temporelles à partir de cartes historiques. Celle-ci est finalement appliquée à la création d'une base de données sur le réseau des rues de Paris des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles à partir de plans topographiques de la capitale.

Rainfall variability and, in many places, the increase of rainfall intensity have a direct impact on rainfall erosivity. Increasing changes in demography have led to the acceleration of land cover changes in natural areas, as well as in cultivated areas, and, sometimes, in degraded areas and desertified landscapes. These anthropogenized landscapes are more sensitive to erosion. On the other hand, the increase in the number of dams in watersheds traps a great portion of sediment fluxes, which do not reach the sea in the same amount, nor at the same quality, with consequences on coastal geomorphodynamics. This book is dedicated to studies on sediment fluxes from continental areas to coastal areas, as well as observation, modeling, and impact analysis at different scales from watershed slopes to the outputs of large river basins. This book is concentrated on a number of keywords: “erosion” and “sediment transport”, “model” and “practice”, and “change”. The keywords are briefly discussed with respect to the relevant literature. The contributions in this book address observations and models based on laboratory and field data, allowing researchers to make use of such resources in practice under changing conditions.

It has also become clear that knowledge of the effects of sound on one group of animals (e.g., birds or frogs) can guide studies on other groups (e.g., marine mammals or fishes) and that a review of all such studies together would be very useful to get a better understanding of the general principles and underlying cochlear and cognitive mechanisms that explain damage, disturbance, and deterrence across taxa. The purpose of this volume, then, is to provide a comprehensive review of the effects of man-made sounds on animals, with the goal of fulfilling two major needs. First, it was thought to be important to bring together data on sound and bioacoustics that have implications across all taxa (including humans) so that such information is generally available to the community of scholars interested in the effects of sound. This is done in Chaps. 2-5. Second, in Chaps. 6-10, the volume brings together what is known about the effects of sound on diverse vertebrate taxa so that investigators with interests in specific groups can learn from the data and experimental approaches from other species. Put another way, having an overview of the similarities and discrepancies among various animal groups and insight into the “how and why” will benefit the overall conceptual understanding, applications in society, and all future research.
