Book Synopsis Becoming Reinaldo Arenas by : Jorge Olivares
Download or read book Becoming Reinaldo Arenas written by Jorge Olivares and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming Reinaldo Arenas explores the life and work of the Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas (1943–1990), who emerged on the Latin American cultural scene in the 1960s and quickly achieved literary fame. Yet as a political dissident and an openly gay man, Arenas also experienced discrimination and persecution; he produced much of his work amid political controversy and precarious living conditions. In 1980, having survived ostracism and incarceration in Cuba, he arrived in the United States during the Mariel boatlift. Ten years later, after struggling with poverty and AIDS in New York, Arenas committed suicide. Through insightful close readings of a selection of Arenas's works, including unpublished manuscripts and correspondence, Olivares examines the writer's personal, political, and artistic trajectory, focusing on his portrayals of family, sexuality, exile, and nostalgia. He documents Arenas's critical engagement with cultural and political developments in revolutionary Cuba and investigates the ways in which Arenas challenged literary and national norms. Olivares's analysis shows how Arenas drew on his life experiences to offer revealing perspectives on the Cuban Revolution, the struggles of Cuban exiles, and the politics of sexuality.

Download or read book Faso, ¿tenés? written by J. Guzmán and published by J. Guzmán. This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faso, ¿tenés? is volume 7 of the series On Being, and the second bilingual book of the series. It spans year two of the protagonist Ana’s adventures in South America and her trip back home to the States. On Being is a psychological, metaphysical, self-referential, astrological, diary case history, serving as a qualitative, longitudinal research project investigating what it means to be. Basically, I, J. Guzmán (as the protagonist Ana) psychoanalyze myself throughout Time, document meticulously everything that happens to me and how I feel about it, and connect it to astrological theories and timing techniques. If astrology truly works, if it can be considered a legitimate system with rules and internal coherence, you’d have to see it working in relation to somebody’s real-life, autobiographical narrative. I was so immersed in that almost-drug-addiction vibe, where all you can think about is how much you want to smoke. I wouldn’t necessarily consider an addiction to marijuana a legitimate addiction, at least in my own case, sino un deseo fuerte de fumar, una fijación intensa. It was all I could think about. ¡Ya! Eso es todo. Now you can open the book.

Book Synopsis De Tripas un CóRazon by : Jose Antonio Velasquez Ochoa
Download or read book De Tripas un CóRazon written by Jose Antonio Velasquez Ochoa and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Peor... o Mejor. "EL PUEBLO SIN VISION PERECE"- dice El LIBRO de los LIBROS. José Antonio Velásquez Ochoa
