Book Synopsis Minority Language Planning and Micronationalism in Italy by : Paolo Coluzzi
Download or read book Minority Language Planning and Micronationalism in Italy written by Paolo Coluzzi and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Issues of language planning and minority nationalism or «micronationalism» are becoming increasingly important in a globalized world. Yet minority language planning in Italy and its relation to minority nationalism has so far attracted relatively limited academic attention, despite the particularly interesting changes that have taken place since Law 482 on the protection of minority languages was passed in 1999. This book presents the situation in Italy in three case studies and compares them with similar cases in Spain: Friulian (compared with Galician), Cimbrian (compared with Aranese) and Western Lombard (compared with Asturian). Analysis of these case studies is preceded by a clear and thorough introduction to terminology, legislation in the two countries, nationalism, the discipline of language planning and bilingual education, both in general terms and with specific reference to the Italian and Spanish cases. This first part introduces and defines the crucial distinction between minority and regional languages, between macro and micronationalism, both in their conservative and progressive strands, and between majority and minority language planning, among other things.
Book Synopsis Testing Academic Language Proficiency by : Marco Mezzadri
Download or read book Testing Academic Language Proficiency written by Marco Mezzadri and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the development of the process of teaching and assessing foreign language competence for study purposes in a pluricultural and plurilingual context. It addresses not only the individual who is learning the language for academic purposes (LAP), but also other stakeholders, like teachers, schools and universities, and external boards, such as examination boards for language testing. The book highlights an ongoing research project at the University of Parma, Italy, aimed at developing teaching programs and evaluative tools for language for academic purposes. Starting from a reflection upon the nature of language for study purposes stemming from the tradition of English for Academic Purposes, it describes the model of an LAP test implemented in Italian secondary schools and universities, and shows the findings concerning the performance in the test of both students whose mother tongue is Indo-European and those who speak non-Indo-European languages.
Book Synopsis The Oxford Guide to the Romance Languages by : Adam Ledgeway
Download or read book The Oxford Guide to the Romance Languages written by Adam Ledgeway and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-05 with total page 1408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Guide to the Romance Languages is the most exhaustive treatment of the Romance languages available today. Leading international scholars adopt a variety of theoretical frameworks and approaches to offer a detailed structural examination of all the individual Romance varieties and Romance-speaking areas, including standard, non-standard, dialectal, and regional varieties of the Old and New Worlds. The book also offers a comprehensive comparative account of major topics, issues, and case studies across different areas of the grammar of the Romance languages. The volume is organized into 10 thematic parts: Parts 1 and 2 deal with the making of the Romance languages and their typology and classification, respectively; Part 3 is devoted to individual structural overviews of Romance languages, dialects, and linguistic areas, while Part 4 provides comparative overviews of Romance phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and sociolinguistics. Chapters in Parts 5-9 examine issues in Romance phonology, morphology, syntax, syntax and semantics, and pragmatics and discourse, respectively, while the final part contains case studies of topics in the nominal group, verbal group, and the clause. The book will be an essential resource for both Romance specialists and everyone with an interest in Indo-European and comparative linguistics.
Book Synopsis Discourse Segmentation in Romance Languages by : Salvador Pons Bordería
Download or read book Discourse Segmentation in Romance Languages written by Salvador Pons Bordería and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers together for the first time contributions from the most relevant approaches in discourse segmentation developed in the last fifteen years in Romance languages. All these approaches share the assumption that discourses (either oral or written) can be fully divided into units and subunits: just like sentences are fully analyzed with the help of Syntax, discourse can be fully analyzed with the help of Pragmatics. In this sense, the approaches in this volume represent a step forward with respect to the issues in segmentation addressed by Conversational Analysis or by Discourse Analysis. The research questions addressed in this volume range from the distribution of foci to the coupling of gestures and discourse units, the treatment of discourse markers or the interplay between intonation and discourse organization; all of great interest for General Linguistics, as well as for Romance Languages.
Book Synopsis The Legacy of János S. Petőfi by : Margarita Borreguero Zuloaga
Download or read book The Legacy of János S. Petőfi written by Margarita Borreguero Zuloaga and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: János S. Petőfi (1931-2013) was one of the founders of Text Linguistics in Germany in the early ‘70s. He developed different text models, the most famous of which were the Text Structure World Structure Theory (TeSWeST) and Semiotic Textology. In this volume, some of his colleagues and disciples discuss his theoretical contributions to prove the enormous impact of his thoughts in the fields of linguistics, literary theory, rhetoric and semiotics. The essays here consider the notion of coherence, which Petőfi deemed to be the only sufficient condition for textuality, the relationships between his textual models and disciplines such as cognitive, computational and corpus linguistics, and his contributions to the analysis of literary and multimedial texts.
