Book Synopsis La Gaceta de Mi Padre by : Laura Rivera Torres
Download or read book La Gaceta de Mi Padre written by Laura Rivera Torres and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Defining and Defying Borders by : Vanessa Marie Fernández
Download or read book Defining and Defying Borders written by Vanessa Marie Fernández and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing heated exchanges between Spanish and Latin American intellectuals that took place in journals, magazines, and newspapers in the early twentieth century, Defining and Defying Borders details how borders and boundaries were contested within a medium that simultaneously crossed borders and defined boundaries. Vanessa Marie Fernández demonstrates that print media is an invaluable resource for scholars because it offers a nuanced perspective of the complex postcolonial relationship between Spain and Latin America that shaped aesthetic production within and beyond national boundaries. Presenting inclusive paradigms that are at once able to transcend borders, acknowledge national boundaries, and account for empire, Defining and Defying Borders illustrates that investigating journals, magazines, and newspapers is crucial to better understanding postcolonial literary and cultural production.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Exposing two general perspectives, both manifestations of an authoritarian past that still holds a relationship with the present, this collection reveals the ideological legacy of the past and its experience as a distressing conditioner of the present. The dissonant elements of post-Franco discourse critically analyzed by our contributors challenge the seamless narrative that tells the successful story of the Spanish transition to democracy."--BOOK JACKET.
Book Synopsis The Provincial Deputation in Mexico by : Nettie Lee Benson
Download or read book The Provincial Deputation in Mexico written by Nettie Lee Benson and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexico and the United States each have a constitution and a federal system of government. This fact has led many historians to assume that the Mexican system of government, established in the 1820s, is an imitation of the U.S. model. But it is not. First published in Spanish in 1955 and now translated by the author and amplified with new material, this interpretation of the independence movement tells the true story of Mexico's transition from colonial status to federal state. Benson traces the Mexican government's beginning to events in Spain in 1808–1810, when provincial juntas, or deputations, were established to oppose Napoleon's French rule and govern the provinces of Spain and its New World dominions during the Spanish monarch's imprisonment. It was the provincial deputation, not the United States federal system, that provided the model for the state legislative bodies that were eventually formed after Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821. This finding—the result of years of painstaking archival research—strongly confirms the independence of Mexico's political development from U.S. influence. Its importance to a study of Mexican history cannot be overstated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right-Wing Spain in the Civil War Era explores the lives of the leading Spanish conservatives in the turbulent period 1914-1945. The volume is a collection of biographies of the most important figures of the Spanish Right during the last years of the Restoration, the Dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the Second Republic, the Civil War and the early years of the Franco regime. This book brings together a number of leading historians of twentieth-century Spain. By adopting a biographical approach, the volume aims at providing a new insight of the origins, development and aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. Contrary to the traditional view, Right-Wing Spain in the Civil War Era shows a diverse and fragmented Spanish right which, far from being isolated, was profoundly influenced by German Nazism, Italian Fascism and French Traditionalism. This remarkable and innovative collection of essays will be welcomed by students and lecturers of Spanish history alike.

Book Synopsis Monetary Plurality in Local, Regional and Global Economies by : Georgina M. Gómez
Download or read book Monetary Plurality in Local, Regional and Global Economies written by Georgina M. Gómez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea that each country should have one currency is so deeply rooted in people’s minds that the possibility of multiple and concurrent currencies seems unthinkable. Monetary systems contribute to problems of high unemployment and social distress during financial and economic crisis, so reforms to increase the responsiveness and flexibility of the monetary system can be part of the solution. This book discusses ‘monetary plurality’, which is the circulation of several currencies at the same time and space. It addresses how multiple currency circuits work together and transform socio-economic systems, particularly by supporting economies at the local level of regions and cities. The book shows that monetary plurality has been ubiquitous throughout history and persists at present because the existence of several currency circuits facilitates small-scale production and trade in a way that no single currency can accomplish on its own. Monetary plurality can improve resilience, access to livelihoods and economic sustainability. At the same time, it introduces new risks in terms of economic governance, so it needs to be properly understood. The book analyses experiences of monetary plurality in Europe, Japan, and North and South America, written by researchers from East and West and from the global North and South. Replete with case studies, this book will prove a valuable addition to any student or practitioner’s bookshelf.
