Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Crítica intercultural de la filosofía latinoamericana actual written by Raúl Fornet-Betancourt and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Critical Interculturality and Horizontal Methodologies in Latin America by : Sarah Corona Berkin
Download or read book Critical Interculturality and Horizontal Methodologies in Latin America written by Sarah Corona Berkin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this edifying volume Sarah Corona and Claudia Zapata extrapolate the causes for the divisions between groups in Latin American society, bringing their years of experience investigating the conditions and consequences of heterogeneity in the region. First, Corona approaches the problem of difference and heterogeneity epistemologically, asking about the possible benefits of horizontal modes of knowledge production between academics and the "social other." She demands reification for those without access to institutions who experience social ills and theorizes a trans-disciplinary dialogue to discover a horizontal construction of knowledge. Zapata evaluates and questions whether indigenous people throughout the continent have had their quality of life improved by the recognition of their collective rights as peoples. These two works provide overviews of a Latin American multiculturalism that connects to parallel movements in North America and Europe. Combined they offer a guide that could be vital to future activism and social work whether in the classroom or on the streets. Critical Interculturality and Horizontal Methodology in Latin America will appeal to scholars and students who are in need of new ways to comprehend the current strain of multiculturalism and plurality. It offers reflections on how social research can be not only sensitive to the epistemologies and interests of the "cultural other," but approach parity and horizontality in dialogue.

Book Synopsis Filosofía como política cultural by : Richard Rorty
Download or read book Filosofía como política cultural written by Richard Rorty and published by . This book was released on 2010-10-28 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The essays in this book make it elegantly clear that there is a vigorous and rigorous Latin American philosophy . . . and that others dismiss it at their peril." —Mario Sáenz The ten essays in this lively anthology move beyond a purely historical consideration of Latin American philosophy to cover recent developments in political and social philosophy as well as innovations in the reception of key philosophical figures from the European Continental tradition. Topics such as indigenous philosophy, multiculturalism, the philosophy of race, democracy, postmodernity, the role of women, and the position of Latin America and Latin Americans in a global age are explored by notable philosophers from the region. An introduction by Eduardo Mendieta examines recent trends and points to the social, political, economic, and cultural conditions that have inspired the discipline. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dussel (ethics, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) shows how North American and European philosophies have failed to give historically faithful analysis of the genesis of the "myth" of modernity, and have never engaged in a serious questioning of their own Eurocentric presuppositions. He contends that North American and European philosophers have fallen into a false belief that there is a linear sequence that moves from the premodern to the modern, developed, and industrialized. Book Synopsis Critique of Latin American Reason by : Santiago Castro-Gómez
Download or read book Critique of Latin American Reason written by Santiago Castro-Gómez and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critique of Latin American Reason is one of the most important philosophical texts to have come out of South America in recent decades. First published in 1996, it offers a sweeping critique of the foundational schools of thought in Latin American philosophy and critical theory. Santiago Castro-Gómez argues that “Latin America” is not so much a geographical entity, a culture, or a place, but rather an object of knowledge produced by a family of discourses in the humanities that are inseparably linked to colonial power relationships. Using the archaeological and genealogical methods of Michel Foucault, he analyzes the political, literary, and philosophical discourses and modes of power that have contributed to the making of “Latin America.” Castro-Gómez examines the views of a wide range of Latin American thinkers on modernity, postmodernity, identity, colonial history, and literature, also considering how these questions have intersected with popular culture. His critique spans Central and South America, and it also implicates broader and protracted global processes. This book presents this groundbreaking work of contemporary critical theory in English translation for the first time. It features a foreword by Linda Martín Alcoff, a new preface by the author, and an introduction by Eduardo Mendieta situating Castro-Gómez’s thought in the context of critical theory in Latin America and the Global South. Two appendixes feature an interview with Castro-Gómez that sheds light on the book’s composition and short provocations responding to each chapter from a multidisciplinary forum of contemporary scholars who resituate the work within a range of perspectives including feminist, Francophone African, and decolonial Black political thought.

The volume offers a comprehensive survey of the philosophical enterprise in Africa, especially with reference to current discourses, arguments and new issues—feminism and gender, terrorism and fundamentalism, sexuality, development, identity, pedagogy and multidisciplinarity, etc.—that are significant for understanding how Africa can resume its arrested march towards decolonization and liberation.
Book Synopsis The Menace of Multiculturalism by : Alvin J. Schmidt
Download or read book The Menace of Multiculturalism written by Alvin J. Schmidt and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1997-01-21 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this broad condemnation of multiculturalism, the author works to uncover pernicious errors in the arguments of diversity's proponents and to sound a warning against the dire consequences for American culture if the tenets of political correctness are incorporated into our social structure. Schmidt begins by exposing multiculturalism, not as a movement aimed at expanding democratic ideals, but rather as a crypto-Marxist political ideology that seeks to import Marxist concepts into social and cultural institutions. Subsequent chapters then illuminate a number of dismaying trends: a tendency toward historical revisionism in multiculturalist arguments, the sly linguistic maneuvering and limits on speech that characterize political correctness, and the dismantling of the traditional image of the family unit—the primary building block of American society. Schmidt concludes with a rousing admonition to expel from our midst the latter-day Trojan horse that is multiculturalism. Casting a troubled glance over the list of social ills plaguing America today—besieged inner cities, divisive racial politics, diminishing educational standards, and rampant divorce and illegitimacy—we have cause to wonder whether the advocates of multiculturalism represent the solution or the source of the problem. In this rousing condemnation of the multiculturalist agenda, the author fixes an unflinching critical gaze on the subtle deceptions and wrongheaded conclusions at work in the arguments for cultural pluralism, moral relativism, and political correctness. An exhaustive and damning account of multiculturalism's wages and a compelling argument for the importance of traditional American values make this book essential reading for anyone concerned about our country's present plight and future prospects.
