Il présente ainsi tous les éléments nécessaires à la compréhension des modèles d’accident : définitions, objectifs, cadres théoriques et scientifiques, limites et développements, etc... L’ouvrage aborde l’accident selon une approche systémique, notamment selon la théorie générale des systèmes de Bertalanffy. Puis il propose une étude du modèle STAMP et de la technique d’analyse des dangers STPA à travers sa mise en application au sein d’un système socio-technique industriel de traitement de sédiments contaminés, en vue d’en évaluer la sécurité et d’en améliorer la performance. Clair et concis, il permet ainsi : de connaître les principaux modèles d’accident existants et de les comprendre ; d’appréhender la modélisation d’accident comme un outil essentiel de compréhension et d’analyse des interactions entre les différents éléments d’un système et donc de son comportement ; d’acquérir et d’approfondir ses connaissances sur le modèle d’accident STAMP ainsi que sur son application au sein de systèmes socio-techniques. As part of the Foundation’s multifaceted activities—which range from seminars and an advanced training initiative for French doctoral students to joint programs with international organizations an associations—FNEGE partnered with ISEOR to sponsor a series of workshops on developing high quality intervention-research. This volume is one of the results from that endeavor. Although intervention-research helps to uncover valuable insight into organizational dynamics and performance, the challenge of capturing and disseminating that insight to both academics and practitioners is entrenched in the rigor-relevance debate. While we are witnessing increased calls for “actionable knowledge,” this ideal, unfortunately, remains a rather elusive concept as critics contend either that rigorous academic research falls well-short of relevance to the practitioner world or research that proves to be valuable to practitioners falls short of the rigor expected in academic life. This volume is intended to help bridge that divide. Drawing on the FNEGE-ISEOR intervention-research workshop, the volume contains 18 chapters that explore the intervention-research process, from initial conceptualization, to implementation, to publication. When and where contractual interactions are implemented by an institutional set-up which makes_the exchange better reliable for both parties. The new evidence provided by the book moreover makes it possible to appreciate the positive role of major knowledge rent externalities provided by the new quasi-markets for technological knowledge. Trade in technological knowledge leads in fact, as the book shows, to higher levels of division of labor, specialization and efficiency in the production and distribution of new technological knowledge. This dynamics is considered a part of a broader process where the generation of technological knowledge is itself becoming closer to the production of goods so that the division of labour among learning organization plays a growing role. Exchange of technological knowledge takes part because the conditions for appropriability are now far better that currently assumed by a large traditional literature. The analysis carried out through the book builds upon the notion of localized technological knowledge and suggests that the exchange of technological knowledge is not a spontaneous 'atmospheric' process.
