Book Synopsis Historia mínima. La cultura mexicana en el siglo XX by : Carlos Monsiváis
Download or read book Historia mínima. La cultura mexicana en el siglo XX written by Carlos Monsiváis and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Tenochca Empire of Ancient Mexico by : Pedro Carrasco
Download or read book The Tenochca Empire of Ancient Mexico written by Pedro Carrasco and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important political entity in pre-Spanish Mesoamerica was the Tenochca Empire, founded in 1428 when the three kingdoms of Tenochtitlan, Tetzcoco, and Tlacopan formed an alliance that controlled the Basin of Mexico and other extensive areas of Mesoamerica. In a unique political structure, each of the three allies headed a group of kingdoms in the core of the Empire. Each capital possessed settlements of peasants both in its own domain and in those of the other two capitals; in conquered areas nearby, the three capitals had their separate tributaries. In The Tenochca Empire Pedro Carrasco incorporates years of research in the archives of Mexico and Spain and compares primary sources, some not yet published, from all three of the great kingdoms. Carrasco takes in the total tripartite structure of the Empire, defining its component entities and determining how they were organized and how they functioned.

Book Synopsis Water Policy in Mexico by : Hilda R. Guerrero García Rojas
Download or read book Water Policy in Mexico written by Hilda R. Guerrero García Rojas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexico is currently facing severe problems with water availability, wastage and contamination. The most contaminated and over-exploited water resources are concentrated in the most populated areas of the country, where water is scarcer and its quality makes it unsuitable for a variety of uses, including human consumption. At the same time it is indisputable that water quality is a determining factor in public health and ecosystems. The significant growth in population and industry results in a high demand for water, along with contaminating discharges, few of which are treated – and the impact upon the ecosystems is evident. This book addresses all these topics in a single volume, taking into account the challenges presented by the economic, institutional and environmental considerations in Mexico’s water policy framework.
Book Synopsis Constitutional Cultures by : Ulrike Bock
Download or read book Constitutional Cultures written by Ulrike Bock and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-14 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written constitutions are an important attribute of nation states and have become a global phenomenon over the past 200 years. The process began with the revolutions in the Atlantic World, from where it spread to other regions. The present volume looks into the complex of constitutions, the fundamental values conveyed by the constitutional texts, the building and functioning of new constitutional bodies and their symbolic representation. All the authors work on the assumption that in order to fully understand the constitutional order and its history, it is necessary, in addition to studying the legal text, to analyse its special forms of implementation and legitimisation. Therefore, culture is seen as an important component of constitutional history. The volume brings together historians from Argentina, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and the United States; all are specialised in constitutional history and political culture in the 19th century. Their contributions include case studies on the colonial European powers as well as their colonies or ex-colonies in the Americas. A special aim of the volume is to show the connectedness of the constitutional processes that took place in these regions during the late 18th and the 19th centuries. By connecting two vibrant research areas, this volume makes an important contribution to studies on political culture and the history of the Atlantic World. The book targets a broad academic readership, especially in the fields of cultural studies, history, and political science, and contributes to an internationalisation of the academic debate on the concept of constitutional culture.

Book Synopsis Remaking North American Sovereignty by : Jewel L. Spangler
Download or read book Remaking North American Sovereignty written by Jewel L. Spangler and published by Fordham University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay collection presents a transnational history of mid-nineteenth century North America, a time of crisis that forged the continent’s political dynamics. North America took its political shape in the crisis of the 1860s, marked by Canadian Confederation, the US Civil War, the restoration of the Mexican Republic, and numerous wars and treaty regimes conducted between these states and indigenous peoples. This crisis wove together the three nation-states of modern North America from a patchwork of contested polities. Remaking North American Sovereignty brings together distinguished experts on the histories of Canada, indigenous peoples, Mexico, and the United States to re-evaluate this era of political transformation in light of the global turn in nineteenth-century historiography. They uncover the continental dimensions of the 1860s crisis that have been obscured by historical traditions that confine these conflicts within a national framework.
