Book Synopsis Entrepreneurial Values and Strategic Management by : V. Coda
Download or read book Entrepreneurial Values and Strategic Management written by V. Coda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vittorio Coda's discussion of the goals and purpose of the business enterprise illuminates the long-running debate over the goals of the firm. His conceptualization of the firm and its relationships within society transcends stale arguments over shareholders versus stakeholders by viewing the firm less as an agent of individual interests and more as an engine of social development that unifies the interests of the different participants. In articulating a model of the entrepreneurial firm embedded in a social system and a values system based upon notions of fairness and social responsibility, Coda offers an original approach to interpret the business system. The view of a socially-responsible, entrepreneurial, business sector surfacing in this book offers an attractive alternative to most of the prevailing models of market capitalism that have attracted criticism over the past decades.

Book Synopsis Managing Corporate Innovation by : Adalberto Rangone
Download or read book Managing Corporate Innovation written by Adalberto Rangone and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes a valuable contribution to innovation management in the form of an interdisciplinary analysis of contemporary international approaches. By introducing the concept of a 'techno-corporate gap,' it also highlights the crucial role that companies play in creating and managing innovation in order to increase (or decrease) the technological gap between countries, and in their economic development. The originality of the book lies in its systems thinking oriented approach to the techno-corporate gap and technological gap, and their relation to corporate governance. These aspects are analyzed in detail, and not merely from an economic standpoint, but also with regard to innovativeness and regional social development.

Book Synopsis Accounting, Accountability and Crisis Management by : Ericka Costa
Download or read book Accounting, Accountability and Crisis Management written by Ericka Costa and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventional economic and accounting systems have been exposed by the limitations of market-driven mechanisms, where public services, education and healthcare have been subordinated to profit, exacerbating the inequalities between people and countries. Italy was one of the earliest countries to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and also one of the hardest-hit. The successes and failures of the Italian response provides a blueprint for the factors determining the ability of institutions to meet these challenges. This book presents a multifaceted analysis and reflection of the challenges that various types of organisations - public, private and non-profit - have had to face during the pandemic. It contributes to the creation of robust strategies for institutions worldwide to be able to respond promptly and equitably to future emergencies and offers insights for developing policy and practice, with respect to global leaders’ accountability for and management of exceptional events. It addresses three main subjects: extraordinary events and their challenges for business and organisations; the nature and roles of interdisciplinary accounting and accountability in a pandemic environment; and how the global pandemic is impacting accounting and accountability in diverse contexts, such as public services, healthcare, education, and NGOs. With a focus on institutional approaches to establishing, maintaining and discharging accountability throughout the pandemic, the insights of this book are invaluable to both students and practitioners seeking to bolster institutional resilience in an increasingly uncertain world. Both management and accounting communities can learn from this extraordinary global event to promote the process of transforming how business and societies operate.
Book Synopsis Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability Reporting by : Marco Bellucci
Download or read book Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability Reporting written by Marco Bellucci and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a context of growing social and environmental concerns, the role of large enterprises and corporations in encouraging sustainability has drawn increasing attention in recent years. Both academic debates and public-opinion research have called into question the extended responsibilities of firms in our increasingly inter-connected world. By studying issues associated with the greatest challenges mankind is currently facing — from climate change to social exclusion — the scientific community is aware of the need to account for the actions and agendas of companies, especially large ones. They are becoming important global political actors with great power, but also unprecedented responsibilities. With this in mind, the authors believe that it is more important than ever that large enterprises, on the one hand, take into account the opinion of their stakeholder while defining their strategies and, on the other hand, disclose material and relevant information on their ability to contribute to sustainability while delivering value for all of their stakeholders. A consensus is being reached on the responsibility of large enterprises to report in a triple bottom perspective — not only on their financial performances, but also on their social and environmental outcomes. Consequently, it is important to understand what elements organizations need to report on in order to provide stakeholders with relevant and comprehensive sustainability reports. Against this background, this book presents a significant and original contribution, both empirically and theoretically, to the social and environmental accounting literature by studying the various features of stakeholder engagement in sustainability reporting.

Book Synopsis Understanding Organizational Culture by : Antonio Cocozza
Download or read book Understanding Organizational Culture written by Antonio Cocozza and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking a multidimensional approach, this book sheds light on the evolution of organizational studies in a structured and systematic way, against the background of economic and social changes in recent decades. By doing so, the book focuses on the plurality of organizing models as a central concept. This plurality is important to the survival of the firm in response to the growing complexity of the economic, social, and technological innovation that has arisen as a result of globalization. The book goes beyond the traditional approach to the study of organizations, of a structural and functionalistic type. It investigates the role of cultures and the ethical, symbolic, and value dimensions in the redefinition dynamics of strategic assets, as well as the search for new governance models in innovative organizations. Further, it discusses the role of leadership, in relation to the development of professional groups and the skills necessary for the management of endo-organizational, inter-organizational, and trade union negotiation processes. Finally, the book analyzes the economic, social, and cultural change in societies and discusses how companies and organizations of all types can develop cultures of innovation that may lead to socially inclusive governance. This book will appeal to students, researchers, and scholars of economics, business, and the social sciences, as well as professionals and practitioners interested in a better understanding of how organizations function in today’s globalized world.
Book Synopsis Liver Growth and Repair by : A. Strain
Download or read book Liver Growth and Repair written by A. Strain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-12-31 with total page 1320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nelson Fausto The Greek myth of Prometheus with its picture of a vulture feasting on its chained victimhas traditionallyprovided a visualimageofliverregeneration. Itis apowerful and frightening representationbut ifone were to substitute the vulture by a surgeon and Prometheus by a patient laying on a properly prepared operating table, the outcomeoftheprocedurewould not differ significantlyfrom that describedbyGreek poets. Yet few of us who work in the field have stopped long enough to ask where this myth originated. Did the poet observe a case of liver regeneration in a human being? Was it brilliant intuition or perhaps, literally, just a 'gut feeling' of a poet looking for good rhymes that led to the prediction that livers grow when part of the tissueisremoved? Thisbookdoesnotattemptto solve these historical issues. Itdoes, instead, cover in detail some of the major modem themes of research on liver regen eration, injury and repair. As indicated in Dr. N. Bucher's chapter, the modem phase ofexperimental studies on liver regeneration started in 1931 with the publication by Higgins and Anderson of a method to perform a two-thirds resection of the liver of a rat. The technique described has 3 remarkable features: 1) it is highly reproducible, resulting in the removal of 68% of the liver, 2) it has minimal if any mortality, and 3) it consists only of blood vessel ligation and does not involve cutting through or wounding hepatic tissue.
