Book Synopsis Oil Spills, Mafia Oil & Mafia Politics by : Giuseppe Ayroldi
Download or read book Oil Spills, Mafia Oil & Mafia Politics written by Giuseppe Ayroldi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-06-22 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, this rather small book, is a deliberate, detailed and highly documented accusation directed at Congress and at the Oilmen. At a wider level, it is directed against the capitalistic system as developed by the politicians and the large financial groups who now dominate the whole world. Simply by copying and pasting public laws and official documents, this book shows how, in order to facilitate the underhand workings of the Oilmen, the U.S. Congress passed a law, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA'90), which contained a rule, a dozen tiny lines, carefully designed to allow oil companies to continue to do just what the OPA'90 falsely guaranteed the oil companies would no longer do. I.e. legally pollute the sea without constraints or obligations. This book shows that the world of today is governed by a gang of well-paid lackeys who pander to the private interests of the industrial and financial Lobbies who nowadays hold the real reins of power.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late Middle Ages, Italy was one of the most urbanized areas in Europe. Its coasts, the Apennines, the perialpine area and the plains were all home to a large number of smaller towns, lands, villages, castra, and 'quasi cites'. These settlements were all very diverse in terms of demographic consistency, social articulation and economic dynamism, but together they constituted a characteristic and constitutive element of the Italian historical identity: an 'original personality'. This volume, thanks to some framing essays and a mapping of individual cases involving most of the northern, central and southern regions, aims at investigating the active research on this topic over the last thirty to forty years.

Download or read book Dissipatio H.G. written by Guido Morselli and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fantastic and philosophical vision of the apocalypse by one of the most striking Italian novelists of the twentieth century. From his solitary buen retiro in the mountains, the last man on earth drives to the capital Chrysopolis to see if anyone else has survived the Vanishing. But there’s no one else, living or dead, in that city of “holy plutocracy,” with its fifty-six banks and as many churches. He’d left the metropolis to escape his fellow humans and their struggles and ambitions, but to find that the entire human race has evaporated in an instant is more than he had bargained for. Meanwhile, life itself—the rest of nature—is just beginning to flourish now that human beings are gone. Guido Morselli’s arresting postapocalyptic novel, written just before he died by suicide in 1973, depicts a man much like the author himself—lonely, brilliant, difficult—and a world much like our own, mesmerized by money, speed, and machines. Dissipatio H.G. is a precocious portrait of our Anthropocene world, and a philosophical last will and testament from a great Italian outsider.

Download or read book Ethnography written by Vincenzo Matera and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-04 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents both a historical exploration of ethnography and a thematic discussion of major trends that, over different periods, have oriented and re-oriented research practice. As it overviews ethnography from different geographic and thematic perspectives, it further explores new lines of ethnographic research, including as feminist ethnography and visual research, that uncover non-traditional routes to anthropological knowledge. As the great ethnographer E. E. Evans-Pritchard wrote, “Anyone who is not a complete idiot can do fieldwork... but will [his contribution] be to theoretical, or just to factual knowledge?” As Evans-Pritchard highlights and as this book argues, successful ethnography must be connected to a sophisticated theoretical reflection rooted in social and cultural anthropology.

Book Synopsis Biodeterioration of Stone Surfaces by : Larry St.Clair
Download or read book Biodeterioration of Stone Surfaces written by Larry St.Clair and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-02 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a timely volume in view of the considerable interest currently shown in the preservation of our cultural heritage, and the extensive and growing literature on the subject. Unfortunately, the latter is to be found in a wide variety of published sources, some aimed at a very specific readership and therefore not all that accessible to those who need this resource. The present volume draws together a spectrum of biodeterioration work from across the world to provide an overview of the materials examined and the methodologies employed to elucidate the nature of the problems, as well as an extensive and current bibliographical resource on lichen biodeterioration. Biodeterioration of historical and culturally important stone substrata is a complex problem to be addressed. Easy, risk-free solutions are simply not available to be dealt with by other than a wide range of expertise. Successful resolution of this issue will inevitably require a multidisciplinary effort, where biologists work in close cooperation with ecologists, geologists, geochemists, crystallographers, cultural property conservators, archaeologists, anthropologists, and historians in order to recommend the most effective management scheme. The advantage of this approach is obvious: multidisciplinary management teams with good leadership can ask more appropriate questions while developing much more thoughtful and informed decisions.
