This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 1848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in June 1987. It entered into force in February 1989 and all 47 member States are Parties to the Convention. The Convention has already established itself as an important human rights instrument. Its approach is quite different from that of the European Convention on Human Rights. Whereas the ECHR provides a remedy for particular human rights violations after the event, the Convention for the Prevention of Torture (ECPT) seeks to prevent human rights violations, through a system of visits to places of detention. The Convention is intended to be an integrated part of the Council of Europe system for the protection of human rights, placing a proactive non-judicial mechanism alongside the reactive judicial mechanism established under the ECHR. The Yearbook of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture offers an essential annual overview of developments in relation to the ECPT. Part One contains information on ratifications and other such issues in the authentic English and French texts. Part Two has details in English and French of the membership and activities of the Convention. Part Three reprints the twenty-first annual General Report of the ECPT in the official English and French texts. Part Four contains the ECPT's reports to States and the State responses thereto that were made public during the year in question. The ECPT's reports are published in the official English and/or French texts and State responses in the English and/or French versions submitted by the States concerned. Bilingual English and French; 2-volume set.

Book excerpt: This volume explores the unique challenges midwifery graduates face as they move into practice. It identifies the similarities and differences in midwifery education, regulation, and clinical practice faced by graduate midwives in all continents, examining the various support systems available for graduate midwives in many countries, and identifying the common strategies (formal and informal) and approaches that have proved to be effective in supporting midwifery graduates. The book volume brings together the experiences of new midwives starting out in registered practice, to share the challenges and triumphs during their transition to confident practitioners. It identifies, explains and details both established and innovative new mechanisms in place to support new midwives in each country, and examines the effects the experiences of transitioning to practice may have on future professional practice, resilience and sustainability. Lack of support during the new-graduate transition to practice has been associated with early attrition from the midwifery profession. Stress, disillusion, and horizontal violence have been identified as factors that influence midwifery attrition rates. Exploration of the various support mechanisms currently available in different countries may stimulate the sharing of best practices in providing new midwives with transition to practice programmes and generate further research. Each chapter is harmonized to facilitate the comparison between countries, and the maternity services context is explained using each country’s specific legislation, regulation and registration of midwives. The preparation of midwifery students for qualified practice is outlined to explain how midwifery students are trained and socialized into the profession, mentored in their placements and then transitioned to registered midwife status. This book appeals to midwives, managers, educators, and newly graduated interested in international midwifery practice.

This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its second edition, Canadian Perspectives on Advanced Practice Nursing provides a comprehensive and uniquely Canadian review of the roles of clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners, the two streams of advanced practice nursing (APN) in the country. With contributions from notable professionals and academics of the field, the text explores the history and evolution of APN in Canada, from its rural and remote outpost beginnings to the present, and proposes a vision for its future within the health care system. Key issues are examined in relation to economic, educational, legislative, political, regulatory, and social environments that have shaped the continued integration of APN roles across the country. Additionally, the contributors apply the Canadian Nurses Association’s pan-Canadian framework and role competencies to real clinical cases. Speciality roles, including geropsychiatry, ambulatory care, and neonatal, are also examined. New to this edition are chapters that focus on the unique challenges of developing APN roles in Quebec; the social determinants of health of Indigenous, inner-city, rural and remote, LGBT2SQ, and refugee and migrant populations in Canada; and other critical issues, such as performance assessment and global perspectives. Thoroughly updated, this second edition of Canadian Perspectives on Advanced Practice Nursing is a must-read for those in the nursing profession, especially students in nursing programs.
