Doch woher wissen die Roboter, wie sie sich in ihrer Umgebung zurechtfinden und diese wahrnehmen? Wie und mit welcher Druckst rke greifen sie nach Gegenst nden? K nnen Roboter intelligent handeln? Diese und viele weitere Fragen ergeben sich, wenn man Robotern zuschaut. In dieser Arbeit werde ich den Versuch unternehmen einen Zusammenhang zwischen k nstlicher Intelligenz und Robotern herzustellen. Zu diesem Zweck werde ich zun chst erl utern, worum es sich bei k nstlicher Intelligenz handelt. Da die k nstliche Intelligenz allerdings ein umfangreiches, kompliziertes und breit gef chertes Forschungsgebiet darstellt, werde ich diesen Bereich lediglich in begrenztem Ma mit dem Ziel mich auf das Wesentliche zu konzentrieren, vorstellen. Folglich wird der Bereich der Robotik vorgestellt, wobei ich besonders darauf eingehen werde, wie Roboter mit Hilfe von Sensoren und Effektoren ihre Umgebung wahrnehmen und sich dementsprechend bewegen. Nachdem nun beide Bereiche - die k nstliche Intelligenz und die Roboter - umrissen wurden, werde ich den Robocup als Anwendungsbereich von k nstlicher Intelligenz in der Robotik vorstellen und der Frage nachgehen, inwiefern sich diese beiden Bereiche erg nzen. Im Abschluss dieser Arbeit werde ich ein Fazit ziehen.

A problem in any branch of science or engineering is how to devise tests that can provide objective comparisons between alt- native methods. In recent years, competitive engineering challenges have been established to motivate researchers to tackle di?cult problems while providing a framework for the comparison of results. RoboCup was one of the ?rst such competitions and has been a model for the organization of challenges foll- ing sound scienti?c principles. In addition to the competition, the associated symposium provides a forum for researchers to present refereed papers. But, for RoboCup, the symposium has the greater goal of encouraging the exchange of ideas between teams so that the competition, as a whole, progresses from year to year and strengthens its contribution to robotics. One hundred and eighteen papers were submitted to the Symposium. Each paper was reviewed by at least two international referees; 30 papers were - cepted for presentation at the Symposium as full papers and a further 38 were accepted for poster presentation. The quality of the Symposium could not be maintained without the support of the authors and the generous assistance of the referees.

The book is based on the first author’s doctoral thesis, which won the 2013 EURON Georges Giralt PhD Award.

The first chapter, by Chen, Fanelli, Castellano, and Jain, is an introduction to computational intelligence paradigms. It presents the basics of the main constituents of compu tational intelligence paradigms including knowledge representation, probability-based approaches, fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and rough sets. In the second chapter, Chellapilla and Fogel present the evolution of a neural network to play checkers without human expertise. This chapter focuses on the use of a population of neural networks, where each network serves as an evaluation function to describe the quality of the current board position. After only a little more than 800 generations, the evolutionary process has generated a neural network that can play checkers at the expert level as designated by the u.s. Chess Federation rating system. The program developed by the authors has also competed well against commercially available software.
