Book Synopsis Dangerous Supplements by : Peter Fitzpatrick
Download or read book Dangerous Supplements written by Peter Fitzpatrick and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Dangerous Supplements expert legal scholars employing a variety of theoretical perspectives--feminism, poststructuralism, semiotics, and Marxism--challenge predominating views in jurisprudence. Prevailing notions of the nature of the law, they argue, have failed to recognize the law's dependence on social constructs and the indeterminance of language. The contributors further claim that proponents of traditional notions have borrowed knowledge from other fields, only to reject that knowledge as ultimately subversive and dangerous in its ramifications. Taking as a point of departure H. L. A. Hart's The Concept of the Law, Peter Fitzgerald shows how Hart adopted Wittgenstein's linguistic theory to overthrow J. L. Austin's "simple" conception of rules and habits in law, only to jettison this theory in order to locate the essence of law in its evolution from a "primal scene." Other chapters examine the way in which the setting of English law above social relations has masked an imperial mission; how the philosophies of Hayek and Marx, as well as the discourses of liberalism, feminism, semiotics, and poststructuralism, have been assiduously marginalized and rendered inessential to jurisprudence.

Book Synopsis Nutrition and Supplements in Cycling by : Lewis A. Gough
Download or read book Nutrition and Supplements in Cycling written by Lewis A. Gough and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nutrition and Supplements in Cycling provides a blueprint for all the key nutritional aspects a cyclist should consider from health to macro- and micro-nutrients, and the finer details, such as sports supplements to improve competitive performance. As a result, cyclists and coaches can use this book as a handbook to help with supporting their own (or their athletes') health and performance through evidence-based nutrition. The nutritional demands of cycling are as diverse as the number of disciplines in the sport. To address this issue, this book covers the nutritional strategies for short- and long-distance disciplines and considers the implications of training and racing in a variety of environmental conditions. The book is divided into two distinct parts that are structured around the nutrition demands and practices of cyclists and an evaluation of novel and existing supplements that are currently being used or considered by riders. This book represents a go-to resource for cyclists, performance nutritionists, coaches, and students looking for the most effective and up-to-date evidence-based nutritional strategies for enhancing cycling performance. It brings together a team of emerging and world-leading academics, along with practitioners and riders from the UCI World and Pro Tours, to provide insightful evaluations of the latest science and to translate that knowledge into practical recommendations. Finally, it presents a model of reflective practice designed to enhance the performance nutrition practitioner’s development and practices. This book is key reading for active cyclists, cycling coaches, and athletes, as well as researchers and students of sport and exercise science, nutrition, human performance, and exercise physiology.
Book Synopsis Current Practices in Workplace and Organizational Learning by : Bente Elkjaer
Download or read book Current Practices in Workplace and Organizational Learning written by Bente Elkjaer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central assumption that guides this book is that research and practice about learning at the workplace has recently lost its critical edge. This book explores what has happened to workplace learning and organizational learning and studies what has replaced it. In addition, the book discusses to what extend there are reasons to revitalize it. Today, themes such as ‘innovation’, ‘co-creation’ and ‘knowledge sharing’ seem to have become preferred and referred to as theoretical fields as well as fields of practice. In several chapters of this book it is argued that the critical power of learning could be regained by starting a new discussion of how these new fields of practice can be substantiated by topics such as learning arrangements, learning mechanisms, and learning strategies. Hence, the aim of this book is to both advance and recapture our knowledge of learning in today’s increasingly complex world of work and organizing. The contributions in this work do so by revisiting classic research on workplace and organizational learning and discussing how insights from this body of literature evokes new meaning. It sets the stage for new agendas and rethinks current practices that are entangled in activities such as innovation, co-creation, knowledge sharing or other currently widespread fields of practice.
