Book Synopsis Ecology of Amphibian-Microbial Symbioses by : Eria A. Rebollar
Download or read book Ecology of Amphibian-Microbial Symbioses written by Eria A. Rebollar and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-08-02 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of amphibian microbial ecology has greatly advanced in recent years. The work published to date has shown that amphibian skin bacterial communities can be influenced by host species, host life-history stage, environmental conditions, surrounding bacterial communities that serve as reservoirs and external biotic agents such as pathogens. As the ecology of amphibian-microbial symbiosis is a relatively new field, there are still many unanswered questions. The aim of this Research Topic is to highlight recent research on amphibian microbiomes that addresses relevant questions on the ecology of amphibian-microbe interactions. The publications gathered in this Research Topic have expanded our knowledge on the role of microbial symbionts of amphibians and have revealed novel insights that can direct the next set of research questions. We suggest that soon the field will move from the basic (and necessary) descriptions of microbial communities to more experimental approaches that include the use of omics methods and a variety of novel analytic and multivariate approaches. In addition to providing more insights into the microbial and disease ecology of amphibians, these studies may lead to effective ways to manipulate the microbiome to achieve protection from diseases, such as chytridiomycosis.

Book Synopsis Walks, Tracks and Trails of Queensland's Tropics by : Derrick Stone
Download or read book Walks, Tracks and Trails of Queensland's Tropics written by Derrick Stone and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2016-03 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queensland’s tropics provide numerous environments for enjoyable walking: lush rainforests, cloud-shrouded mountains, extinct volcanoes, savanna woodlands, and magnificent beaches on the coast and Great Barrier Reef islands. This book brings together more than 150 of the best walks, tracks or trails in Queensland’s tropics, located within the coastal strip between Rockhampton and Cooktown. Walks vary from short boardwalk strolls in the lowland rainforests of Daintree National Park to 4-6 day hiking and camping trips on Hinchinbrook Island. Other routes follow old gold miners’ and forestry tracks or coaching routes or feature historical sites, rivers, lagoons, geological and geographical formations or much earlier Aboriginal communication tracks where Dreamtime stories add a further dimension. Man-made environments of abandoned gold towns, heritage riverfronts, Art Deco streetscapes and Second World War installations also feature. Most routes are best completed during the ‘Dry’ season (May to October) and walked by moderately fit individuals. Most do not require specialist navigation or bushcraft skills. Walks, Tracks and Trails of Queensland’s Tropics highlights the best the region has to offer. Easy-to-interpret maps are included to help you navigate, and the book’s size makes it convenient to carry in the backpack.

Book Synopsis A Grammar of Warrongo by : Tasaku Tsunoda
Download or read book A Grammar of Warrongo written by Tasaku Tsunoda and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-12-23 with total page 783 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warrongo is an extinct Australian Aboriginal language that used to be spoken in northeast Australia. This volume is largely based on the rich data recorded from the last fluent speaker. It details the phonology, morphology and syntax of the language. In particular, it provides a truly scrutinizing description of syntactic ergativity - a phenomenon that is rare among the world's language. It also shows that, unlike some other Australian languages, Warrongo has noun phrases that are configurational. Overall this volume shows what can be documented of a language that has only one speaker.
