Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We Are Joseph a powerful historic book written by Jean Louis Tailly seeks to fi nd a lasting solution to the ongoing crises in Africa. The book brings to life the hardships, humiliation, and expected triumphs of broken family relationships, poverty, hostility, and horrors associated with slavery. We Are Joseph explores the good that can come out of slavery. The story of Joseph forms the backdrop of this book highlighting Josephs painful separation from his family, his life as a slave in a foreign land, his eventual rise to power and reconciliation with his brothers. It describes the striking similarities between Josephs experience and the African-American experience in slavery. Tailly looks at slavery not from the human perspective but from a godly perspective. We Are Joseph is about the history, identity, and destiny of African- Americans. It is a history full of victories and defeats but more importantly, a history rich with lessons that can help build a brighter future for generations to come. The book also answers the question of why African-Americans were brought to America and gives compelling reasons why they are Gods chosen instrument to unify the Africans, bring them peace, stability, and prosperity, and repair the psychological, sociological, and economical damages caused by the Atlantic slave trade.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book talks of strongly held beliefs and how these lead to conflicts. This applies to rivaling nations as well as to individuals in competition. These beliefs have been found to be influenced by the environment in which those who hold these beliefs are brought up or in the circumstances in which they find themselves. A bad legacy of beliefs handed over to a new generation or to an individual in a position of authority, may influence them throughout their lifespan, just as colonizers handed over legacies to their colonies; these subjects used the bad practices they inherited from their superiors to subjugate the individuals they in turn supervised. This trickle-down effect has been a negative practice which has led to enormous conflicts in societies, and this in turn has had a conflictual effect on the subjects they have had to control. Examples are taken from our leaders and those they have had under them. It has become a vicious cycle which turns out to be a snare without an end. We find that there is a civilization struggle resulting from this conflict of beliefs. Overall, whether negative or positive, it is for a survival of the fittest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long-standing parliamentary convention known as the 'Royal Prerogative' has always allowed Prime Ministers to take the country to war without any formal approval by Parliament. The dramatic vote against any military strike on Syria on 29 August 2013 blew that convention wide open, and risks hampering Great Britain's role as a force for good in the world in the future. Will MPs ever vote for war? Perhaps not – and this book proposes a radical solution to the resulting national emasculation. By writing the theory of a Just War (its causes, conduct and ending) into law, Parliament would allow the Prime Minister to act without hindrance, thanks not to a Royal Prerogative, but to a parliamentary one.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: : An attempt has been made to write this book on that basis. This book covers the history of the East India Company's establishment of power since its arrival in India. Along with this, the uprising of 1857 and then social reform movement, Indian freedom struggle movement, revolutionary movement etc. were mainly mentioned. While many books are available on this subject, I am publishing this book with the aim of providing students with the knowledge of this subject in a simple language as per the new semester system. The period from 1757 to 1947 is a period of historical transformation in Indian history. The first military uprising by Indians against British rule was the uprising of 1857 and after that the dawn of independence arose through a revolutionary, just and non-violent struggle without a military uprising against the British until 1947. Through this book, an attempt has been made to convey the knowledge of modern history to the students in an easy way and to add to their historical knowledge and create historical taste.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have written different kinds of poems in Australia, and in Iraqi Kurdistan. I would like to share them with readers who are interested in reading poems about different cultures and for them to feel and sense the sorrows of other people in the world. My book consists of an introduction, the city of Koya and its history, the university of Koya, the history of English language, and brief explanation on poetry as well. My emotional poems come from real life events that I have seen and experienced. Its not easy to describe what I have seen and what I have gone through in life unless I write it down. Sometimes I could say, it was happiness but at the same time sadness that I experienced which are evident in my poems as well. But I can say I have enjoyed both, because life is full of ups and downs and this is what makes us be the person we are. Since I started Intermediate School in September 1971. My feelings and emotions moved me mentally and physically towards writing poems. I could say that the political situation and the bad treatment towards the Kurds, and Kurdistan as well as the bad economical situation generally had affected me. The political situation in our life turned all the beautiful things upside down. I started to write poems in Kurdish when I was in Highschool and I collected hundreds of poems. They were about love, our land, poverty, and political situations. As a student from an average family (low class income), we were just able to survive with no extra money to spend on other things. I was not able to publish them in a small booklet, and it was not an easy process. The former Iraqi government or any other organization did not provide help in order to publish it. I kept them at home. At that time some of the poems were even prohibited to be seen by anyone or to be published at all. If they were captured in your house by the Iraqi authorities, it would have cost my life, my family’s life or the government would knock down our house. I liked my poems and they were became a big part of my life. This feeling never stopped. It continued and grew like a small child with me. In June 1981, I escaped from the former Iraqi army as I was a soldier. I was in the city of Basra in South of Iraq at that time, due to the Iraqi and Iranian war; I encouraged all my friends to run away from the army. We were a group of Kurdish soldiers; we escaped at night through the Arab river by a small boat, which was located at South East of Basra. We went back to the city of Slemani in Iraqi Kurdistan. After a few days I left the city towards a liberated Kurdish area, which was under the control of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which was a political organization. I settled in the village of Maiyawa in the district of Sharbajer/Srochk. I stayed there for two years with hundreds of other escapees at the village. But I was living in an empty school with my cousin. I started to write poems about every single true emotion that came into my mind, for instance I did write about so many fights that were happened in our area between the Kurdish Freedom Fighters and the Iraqi army. I wrote so many poems and a few stories for two years, even I went to Iran couple times and wrote about my trips. I had two books full of poems when I came back to Slemani, the Iraqi government granted the Kurdish soldiers amnesty in order the Kurdish escapees to join the Iraqi army again. We joined the Iraqi army for six months then the Kurdish soldiers were retired from the Iraqi army, due to being Kurds. In 1985 I was working at the university of Salahaddin in Erbil (Hewler), the capital city of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), and I was not home then around 50,000 Iraqi soldiers were poured

Book excerpt: This book contains papers presented at the International Symposium on Urban Development held in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, organised by the Faculty of Engineering at Koya University. The Kurdistan region is rich in oil, gas, mineral resources and underground water. However, until recently the political and security issues were such that the region was unable to take advantage of those resources. Nowadays, Kurdistan is emerging as one of the fastest developing areas in the Middle East, with its universities playing a major role in this process. The aim of the meeting was to focus the research carried out at academic and government institutions with the needs of Society. The International Symposium papers included in this volume cover a wide range of topics and are written by people with different specialisations and perspectives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did states come to monopolize control over migration? What do the processes that produced this monopoly tell us about the modern state? In Indian Migration and Empire Radhika Mongia provocatively argues that the formation of colonial migration regulations was dependent upon, accompanied by, and generative of profound changes in normative conceptions of the modern state. Focused on state regulation of colonial Indian migration between 1834 and 1917, Mongia illuminates the genesis of central techniques of migration control. She shows how important elements of current migration regimes, including the notion of state sovereignty as embodying the authority to control migration, the distinction between free and forced migration, the emergence of passports, the formation of migration bureaucracies, and the incorporation of kinship relations into migration logics, are the product of complex debates that attended colonial migrations. By charting how state control of migration was critical to the transformation of a world dominated by empire-states into a world dominated by nation-states, Mongia challenges positions that posit a stark distinction between the colonial state and the modern state to trace aspects of their entanglements.
