Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Echinodermata is a phylum of marine invertebrates with a fossil record reaching back to the Precambrian. Major elements of the benthic macrofauna, they play a significant role in the dynamics of the ecosystems and are choice biological models in the life sciences, from ecology to genomics. This title offers 50 papers presented at the sixth European Conferences on Echinoderms (ECE), covering population biology, biodiversity, anatomy and functional morphology, physiology and behavior, biological cycles, and resource potential. This book reflects the great diversity of its contributors, offering an opportunity to cover a broad range of important questions in a single, authoritative reference.
Book Synopsis Current Developments in Bioerosion by : Max Wisshak
Download or read book Current Developments in Bioerosion written by Max Wisshak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-20 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become apparent from the literature that bioerosional processes affect a wide range of biological and geological systems that cross many disciplines among the sciences. This book is dedicated to crossing those traditional disciplinary boundaries to present a united and current perspective on the pattern and process of bioerosion. The book opens with papers on the evolutionary significance of bioerosion. It concludes with a primer on the bioerosion bibliography website.

Download or read book Isotopic Studies in Cretaceous Research written by A.-V. Bojar and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isotopic studies combined with geochemical, lithological, mineralogical and palaeontological investigations have been widely used in reconstructing Cretaceous marine and continental environments. Furthermore stable and radiogenic isotope trends play an important role in the interpretation of the causes and consequences of biotic turnovers at stratigraphic boundaries as well as in global correlations.
Book Synopsis Petroleum Geology of Northwest Europe by : A. J. Fleet
Download or read book Petroleum Geology of Northwest Europe written by A. J. Fleet and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1999-09 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of the extensive advances made in the understanding the petroleum geology of the Atlantic margin of northwest Europe, of the North Sea and of adjacent areas since the;ast conference in 1992. In particular, the volume focuses on: the development of and application of 3D seismic, time-lapse ('4D') and other innovative seismic tools; the ongoing refinement of sequence and other stratigraphic approaches, including the integration of detailed biostratigraphic data; the development of modelling at both the reservoir and basin scale which can respond to new data acquisition and be used to assess uncertainties at the reservoir scale and scenarios at the basin scale.
Book Synopsis Landmarks in Foraminiferal Micropalaeontology by : A.J. Bowden
Download or read book Landmarks in Foraminiferal Micropalaeontology written by A.J. Bowden and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TMS Special Publication 6. This TMS Special Publication comprises a collection of 23 papers with an international authorship reflecting on landmarks in the history and development of Foraminiferal micropalaeontology. The volume is prefaced by an introductory overview that provides a brief and selected historical setting, as well as the intended aims of the book. Selected developments in Foraminiferal studies from a global perspective are presented from the time of Alcide d'Orbigny and the founding of the Paris MNHN collections in the mid-nineteenth century to the use of foraminifera in industry, other museum collections, palaeoceanography and environmental studies, regional studies from the Southern Hemisphere and the rise and fall of significant research schools. The book concludes with a chapter on the modelling of foraminifera. Landmarks in Foraminiferal Micropalaeontology: History and Development will be of particular interest to micropalaeontologists, other Earth scientists, historians of science, museum curators and the general reader with an interest in science.

Book Synopsis The Stratigraphic Record of Gubbio by : Marco Menichetti
Download or read book The Stratigraphic Record of Gubbio written by Marco Menichetti and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2016-07-13 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the last century, the lower Jurassic to mid-Miocene pelagic succession exposed along the valleys of the Umbria and Marche Apennines of Italy represented a fertile playground for generations of earth scientists. This GSA Special Paper provides a reappraisal of the geological and integrated stratigraphic research, which was carried out by scores of earth scientists in the gorges around the medieval city of Gubbio over the past fifty years. Following review chapters about pioneering sedimentologic, biostratigraphic, and magnetostratigraphic studies of the Gubbio sections, a series of papers presents new, original data addressing different stratigraphical, paleoenvironmental, and structural geological aspects of particular Cretaceous to Paleogene intervals, including the still much-debated K-Pg Boundary Event in the worldwide famous site of the Bottaccione Gorge, where the Alvarez theory of global mass extinction caused by a catastrophic extraterrestrial impact was born in 1980.
