Download or read book Death on the River written by Diane Fanning and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Death on the River, bestselling true crime author Diane Fanning recounts a tragic kayak accident that left one man dead—and his fiancée arrested for his murder. A DREAM GETAWAY. A REAL-LIFE NIGHTMARE... It seemed like the perfect romantic afternoon: a kayaking trip for two on the Hudson River. But it ended in tragedy when beautiful, blonde Angelika Graswald called 911 to report that her fiancé, the handsome and athletic Vincent Viafore, had fallen into the choppy frigid waters. Authorities assumed it was an accident. But when the bereft bride-to-be posted videos of herself doing cartwheels on social media—shortly before Vincent’s body was found—suspicions of murder rose to the surface... After hours of questioning, Angelika made several shocking admissions. She said she felt “trapped” and fed up with Vincent’s “demanding” sexual lifestyle: the nightlife, the strip clubs, the threeways. “I wanted him dead,” she had said, even though she insisted that she didn’t kill him. But as more lurid details emerged—including a $250,000 life insurance policy—a killer question remained: Did Angelika remove the plug of her fiancé’s boat...and knock away his paddle as he sank?

Download or read book Quavaat written by Maliaraq Beboek and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 2009-07-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book & CD-ROM. During the mid-20th century, old South Greenlanders still spoke their genuine dialects when Mâliâraq Vebæk, herself a South Greenlander, born 1917, collected on tape stories and descriptions of pre-modern daily life from 42 informants. In this volume, the texts appear in dialectal transcription and translated into English, as well as in sound on the inserted CD-ROM, containing the tape recordings. Among the South Greenlandic dialects, the southernmost from the Cape Farewell region, which is now extinct, attracts particular interest, because this area received emigrants from the gradually depopulated south-east coast during the 19th century. The so-called qavak-dialect of the Cape Farewell region thus became an interesting mixture of the southeast and southwest Greenlandic dialects. This publication is targetted at linguists and is the first and only presentation of the South Greenlandic dialects. A phonological introduction is offered for the benefit of the linguists, but any reader of English (or the dialects) interested in stories, Greenland etc. can fully enjoy the texts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2019 National Outdoor Book Award for Outdoor Literature! In the summer of 1987 Ed Gillet achieved what no person has accomplished before or since, a solo crossing from California to Hawaii by kayak. Gillet, at the age of 36 an accomplished sailor and paddler, navigated by sextant and always knew his position within a few miles. Still, Gillet underestimated the abuse his body would take from the relentless, pounding, swells of the Pacific, and early into his voyage he was covered with salt water sores and found that he could find no comfortable position for sitting or sleeping. Along the way he endured a broken rudder, among other calamities, but at last reached Maui on his 63rd day at sea, four days after his food had run out. Dave Shively brings Gillet’s remarkable story to life in this gripping narrative, based on exclusive access to Gillet’s logs as well as interviews with the legendary paddler himself.

Download or read book The Killer Jaws written by El Pensador and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the sea there are many stories and legends that tell of tales of sea species that are too gruesome for some of us to even imagine. The elders speak of fish from hell. I'm going to tell you an epic story of a sea monster with killer jaws that live in the swamp, the hidden marshes of Florida; this is the story of the giant piranha. This is the story of a carnivorous fish one which doesn't stop until it knows there is nothing left not even a trace of flesh. Maybe their hunger has no quench, maybe they're nature's revenge mother natures way of saying keep out or maybe they just enjoy the misery and pain they cause. This is a recount of a horrific legend one that invades your mind unnerves your senses gives chills to your spine. The beast has caused the deaths of many people; it has tainted the waters so many times that red water in this region only seems natural, taking away every living being from its path. Many people have disappeared in the marshes, was it the piranhas, with their killer jaws, are all the legends real? Innocent people disappear, mourners left without bodies to cry or bury, children left without parents and parents left without children, they all have one thing in common they visited a river, a lagoon, or a swamp in which they did come in, but they did not come out. The elders all speak but no one listens. No one pays attention to what the old people have to say, everyone rule out their stories a dementia or that it's just a tall tale to get attention. Nobody believes in the sea creatures, in the river killers but i tell different I tell you to believe.

Book Synopsis Threading a Kayak down the Mississippi by : Dennis Van Norman
Download or read book Threading a Kayak down the Mississippi written by Dennis Van Norman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005, Dennis Van Norman climbed into a kayak for the first time to spend an afternoon “Huck Finning” down the Mississippi River with his son and grandson. Little did he know that what started as an innocent, eight-mile kayaking introduction would eventually become a passion—or an addiction. He spent thirteen years, from his sixties through his mid-seventies, kayaking the length of the Mississippi, bit by bit, traveling more than 2,500 river miles from northern Minnesota to the southern tip of Louisiana in a boat built for one. Threading a Kayak down the Mississippi is the story of how one traveler fully experienced and embraced the Mississippi River and its surroundings. In the vein of Jonathan Raban's Old Glory, Dennis's account casts light on the Mississippi River’s history, geography, and sociology, but it is a book about more than the river itself—it’s also about the individuals and characters living along the Mississippi’s shores. From the local foods and music to the customs and history, each experience is sandwiched between moments of pure serenity and those of sheer terror. This is the story of a journey of discovery on the country’s most celebrated waterway, and an exploration of the wonderment, joy, and fear that will inevitably grab hold of you when you’re sitting alone in a fourteen-foot plastic boat on America’s greatest river.
