Written with warmth and welcome, To Light Their Way gives voice to your prayers when words won't come. Filled with more than 100 modern liturgies, this book guides you into an intentional conversation with God for your children and the world they live in. From everyday struggles like helping your child find friends or thrive in school to larger issues like praying for a brighter world rooted in peace and truth, these pleas and petitions act as a gentle guide, reminding us that while our words may fail, God never does. At the core of To Light Their Way is the deepest of prayers: that our children will experience the love of God so deeply that their lives will be an outpouring of love that lights up the world.

Book Synopsis Amber, Guinevere, and Kate Photographed by Craig Mcdean by : Mathias Augustyniak
Download or read book Amber, Guinevere, and Kate Photographed by Craig Mcdean written by Mathias Augustyniak and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With energy and glamour, iconic photographer Craig McDean captures the celebrated evolution of fashion’s biggest muses: Kate Moss, Guinevere van Seenus, and Amber Valletta. With their waiflike frames and unique features that contrasted with the supermodels of the ’80s, Amber, Guinevere, and Kate became the anti-supermodels that, alongside grunge, signified a global shift in culture. And Craig McDean, an artist with a talented eye for the striking and unusual, photographed them from their beginnings. McDean, whose works are praised for their conceptual and sophisticated edge, is well respected in both the photography and fashion worlds. Shot on film from 1992 through 2002, this roughly chronological volume of 150 color and black-and-white images includes never-before-published photographs, outtakes from famous shoots, and contact sheets. Texts by Mathias Augustyniak of M/M (Paris) and author Glenn O’Brien add depth and perspective to the works. The photographs within this volume capture the essence of an era that changed fashion forever and will be treasured by fashion, style, and photography lovers from all generations.

Book excerpt: Kate Jasper, Marin County, California’s own organically grown amateur sleuth, returns in this eleventh mystery in the series. In Murder, My Deer, Kate and her sweetie’s budding romance has finally flowered into a full‐fledged marriage. But no one ever promised them a rose garden. Deer have gate‐crashed their yard to munch every bud, blossom, and petal. Instead of happily honeymooning, Kate and her sweetie attend the deer‐abused support group for those whose dearly beloved plants have been deerly beheaded. Antlers clash during group discussion, since everyone has their own idea for deer prevention . . . from feeding them to killing them. Dr. Searle Sandstrom, ex‐military, would like to use a gun, napalm, and land mines. But someone bashes in his head first, and no one spots any hoofprints near his dead body. Killing season is open, and Kate is game to flush out the hunter before she becomes the hunted game.
Book Synopsis Authority and Spectacle in Medieval and Early Modern Europe by : Yuen-Gen Liang
Download or read book Authority and Spectacle in Medieval and Early Modern Europe written by Yuen-Gen Liang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together distinguished scholars in honor of Professor Teofilo F. Ruiz, this volume presents original and innovative research on the critical and uneasy relationship between authority and spectacle in the period from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries, focusing on Spain, the Mediterranean and Latin America. Cultural scholars such as Professor Ruiz and his colleagues have challenged the notion that authority is elided with high politics, an approach that tends to be monolithic and disregards the uneven application and experience of power by elite and non-elite groups in society by highlighting the significance of spectacle. Taking such forms as ceremonies, rituals, festivals, and customs, spectacle is a medium to project and render visible power, yet it is also an ambiguous and contested setting, where participants exercise the roles of both actor and audience. Chapters in this collection consider topics such as monarchy, wealth and poverty, medieval cuisine and diet and textual and visual sources. The individual contributions in this volume collectively represent a timely re-examination of authority that brings in the insights of cultural theory, ultimately highlighting the importance of representation and projection, negotiation and ambivalence.

Book Synopsis The Charisma of Distant Places by : Courtney Luckhardt
Download or read book The Charisma of Distant Places written by Courtney Luckhardt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cultural history of early medieval travel and religion reveals how movement affected society, demonstrating the connectedness of people and regions between 500 and 850 CE. In The Charisma of Distant Places, Courtney Luckhardt enriches our understanding of migration through her examination of religious movement. Vertical links to God and horizontal links to distant regions identified religious travelers – both men and women – as holy, connected to the human and the divine across physical and spiritual distances. Using textual sources, material culture, and place studies, this project is among the first to contextualize the geographic and temporal movement of early medieval people to reveal the diversity of religious travel, from the voluntary journeys of pilgrims to the forced travel of Christian slaves. Luckhardt offers new ways of understanding ideas about power, holiness, identity, and mobility during the transformation of the Roman world in the global Middle Ages. By focusing on the religious dimensions of early medieval people and the regions they visited, this book addresses probing questions, including how and why medieval people communicated and connected with one another across boundaries, both geographical and imaginative.
Download or read book Radical Gestures written by Jayne Wark and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2006-08-14 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance art was finally recognized as an art form in its own right in the 1970s. In Radical Gestures Jayne Wark situates feminist performance art in Canada and the United States in the social context of the feminist movement and avant-garde art from the 1970s to 2000. She shows that artists drew from feminist politics to create works that, after a long period of modernist aesthetic detachment, made a unique contribution to the re-politicization of art.
