Book Synopsis Pedagogical Content Knowledge in STEM by : Stephen Miles Uzzo
Download or read book Pedagogical Content Knowledge in STEM written by Stephen Miles Uzzo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents both recent research in pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as emerging innovations in how PCK is applied in practice. The notion of “research to practice” is critical to validating how effectively PCK works within the clinic and how it can be used to improve STEM learning. As the need for more effective educational approaches in STEM grows, the importance of developing, identifying, and validating effective practices and practitioner competencies are needed. This book covers a wide range of topics in PCK in different school levels (middle school, college teacher training, teacher professional development), and different environments (museums, rural). The contributors believe that vital to successful STEM education practice is recognition that STEM domains require both specialized domain knowledge as well as specialized pedagogical approaches. The authors of this work were chosen because of their extensive fieldwork in PCK research and practice, making this volume valuable to furthering how PCK is used to enlighten the understanding of learning, as well as providing practical instruction. This text helps STEM practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers further their interest in more effective STEM education practice, and raises new questions about STEM learning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Alif had never set foot outside of West Sumatra. He passed his childhood days searching for fallen durian fruit in the jungle, playing soccer on rice paddies, and swimming in the blue waters of Lake Maninjau. His mother wants him to attend an Islamic boarding school, a pesantren, while he dreams of public high school. Halfheartedly, he follows his mother’s wishes. He finds himself on a grueling three-day bus ride from Sumatra to Madani Pesantren (MP) in a remote village on Java. On his first day at MP, Alif is captivated by the powerful phrase man jadda wajada. He who gives his all will surely succeed. United by punishment, he quickly becomes friends with five boys from across the archipelago, and together they become known as the Fellowship of the Manara. Beneath the mosque’s minaret, the boys gaze at the clouds on the horizon, seeing in them their individual dreams of far-away lands, like America and Europe. Where would these dreams take them? They didn’t know. What they did know was: never underestimate dreams, no matter how high they may be. God truly is The Listener. The Land of Five Towers is the first book in a trilogy written by A. Fuadi—a former TEMPO & VOA reporter, photography buff, and a social entrepreneur. He went to George Washington University and Royal Holloway, University of London for his masters. A portion of the royalties from the trilogy are intended to build Komunitas Menara, a volunteer-based social organization which aims to provide free schools, libraries, clinics and soup kitchens for the less fortunate. Book Synopsis 4000 Years of Migration and Cultural Exchange by : Peter Bellwood
Download or read book 4000 Years of Migration and Cultural Exchange written by Peter Bellwood and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project reported on in this monograph has been concerned with the archaeology of the Batanes Islands, an archipelago that must have been settled quite early in the process of Austronesian dispersal from Taiwan southwards into the Philippines. A multi-phase archaeological sequence covering the past 4000 years for the islands of Itbayat, Batan, Sabtang and Siayan is presented, extending from the Neolithic to the final phase of Batanes prehistory, just prior to the late 17th century arrivals of foreign navigators such as Jirobei (Japan) and William Dampier (England), followed by the first Spanish missionaries. So far, no traces of preceramic settlement have been found in Batanes, but the archaeological sequence there from the Neolithic onwards, like that in the Cagayan Valley in northern Luzon, is now one of the best-established in the Philippines.

Book Synopsis Theater of Exhibitions by : Jens Hoffmann
Download or read book Theater of Exhibitions written by Jens Hoffmann and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curator Jens Hoffman s Theater of Exhibitions considers the plight of art after the end of art and asks whether inherited frameworks of making, theorizing and exhibiting art still apply to contemporary practice. Are exhibitions still an appropriate form of assembly and embodied ritual in our 21st-century global society? Drawing from his formation in theater and his own curatorial work, Hoffmann reflects on the current spaces of contemporary art the gallery, the institution and the biennial. Ultimately he positions the discipline of curating in the context of a larger cultural sphere one shaped by the political, social and economic conditions and demanding new attitudes and new thinking. The book also considers the commodification of the art industry and the distribution of images in the digital age and posits the exhibition as an anthropological endeavor, with curator as agent
