Book Synopsis Japan and the Asian Pacific Region by : Masahide Shibusawa
Download or read book Japan and the Asian Pacific Region written by Masahide Shibusawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1984, examines the spectacular economic growth of the Asia Pacific region in the 1970s and 1980s. How did a group of non-Western nations, in an area plagued by war, achieve such success, so quickly? Japan was the driving force in the region, and a dominant influence on the world economy, but had no clearly defined role in the politics of the region or the world. This book considers Japan’s position, the problems it faced and how it perceived and responded to events in the region. It provides clues to understanding the basic pattern of Japan’s relations, its evolving role in the region and the world, and how this role might develop in the future.
Book Synopsis Toward a More Amicable Asia-Pacific Region by : Yoneyuki Sugita
Download or read book Toward a More Amicable Asia-Pacific Region written by Yoneyuki Sugita and published by UPA. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asia-Pacific region has been enjoying fast growing economy. As President Barack Obama’s “pivot to Asia” strategy indicates, this region is an engine for the world economic growth. However, the Asia-Pacific has also been an unstable region suffering from many sources of conflicts such as disputes on Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands, the unsettled Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) borders, and many others. Do we need a hegemonic power to stabilize this region? What can we do to deal with the emergence of China? How can we understand anti-Japanese feelings? Is there any way to deal with the problem on Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands? How can we analyze nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula? Can the European Union make any contribution to stabilizing the Asia-Pacific region? Those are some of the concrete questions this book tackles with in order to find ways and means to establish a more amicable Asia-Pacific region.

Book Synopsis Air Transport in the Asia Pacific by : David Timothy Duval
Download or read book Air Transport in the Asia Pacific written by David Timothy Duval and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air transport in the Asia Pacific has undergone significant transformation in the last three decades. What was once a region in the shadow of larger and more prosperous continents such as North America and Europe is now at the forefront of expansion in commercial air-service networks, frequency and capacity, and the overall growth in the contribution of air transport to economies on regional and, in many cases, individual country levels. Despite this, it represents an area that is generally under-represented in the commercial air-transport academic literature. Air Transport in the Asia Pacific seeks to fill this gap. Against this context, the aim of the volume is to offer a contemporary snapshot of current academic research into commercial air transport in the Asia Pacific. While one volume cannot realistically address the complete range of identifiable issues, this book provides timely, specific and research-based studies authored by leading academics and practitioners.
Book Synopsis Legacies of the Asia-Pacific War by : Roman Rosenbaum
Download or read book Legacies of the Asia-Pacific War written by Roman Rosenbaum and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-09-10 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we look in detail at the various peripheral groups of disenfranchised people emerging from the aftermath of the Asia–Pacific War the list is startling: Koreans in Japan (migrants or forced labourers), Burakumin, Hibakusha, Okinawans, Asian minorities, comfort women and many others. Many of these groups have been discussed in a large corpus of what we may call ‘disenfranchised literature’, and the research presented in this book intends to add an additional and particularly controversial example to the long list of the voice- and powerless. The presence of members of what is known as the yakeato sedai or the generation of people who experienced the fire-bombings of the Asia–Pacific War is conspicuous in all areas of contemporary Japan. From literature to the visual arts, from music to theatre, from architecture to politics, their influence and in many cases guiding principles is evident everywhere and in many cases forms the keystone of modern Japanese society and culture. The contributors to this book explore the impact of the yakeato generation - and their literary, creative and cultural and works - on the postwar period by drawing out the importance of the legacy of those people who truly survived the darkest hour of the twentieth century and re-evaluate the ramifications of their experiences in contemporary Japanese society and culture. As such this book will be of huge interest to those studying Japanese history, literature, poetry and cultural studies.
