Book excerpt: Our Father in Heaven never intended that we, who are his children by regeneration, should live anything else than a life of perfect obedience and trust; for we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. In his explanation of the miracle of Pentecost, Peter said (Acts 2:33): "Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this, which ye now hear and see." Since therefore upon our head, Jesus Christ, God hath poured for the Holy Ghost, whatsoever the head has received is in trust for the body; and we are the body of Christ and members in particular. All that the head has obtained, I may claim. A life of unrest dishonors Him, for He said in Matthew 11:28, 29: "Come onto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls." He surely must be grieved If we have disregarded His promise. A life devoid of peace discredits His word, for He said (John 14:27): "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Peace is just the opposite of unrest, and no child of God ought to be without it, for it is his birthright in Christ.
