Download or read book Love, Clancy written by W. Bruce Cameron and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From W. Bruce Cameron, the internationally bestselling author of A Dog’s Purpose and A Dog’s Way Home, comes Love, Clancy: Diary of a Good Dog, a deeply moving story with a brand-new cast of characters, including one very good dog. You’ve probably never met someone like Clancy. He’s keeping a diary, he’s falling in love, there are rivals for his affections, he lives with his best friend and his worst enemy – even taken together, these factors are maybe not that unusual, except that Clancy is a dog. His point of view is therefore perhaps...different. Told in Cameron’s signature style, a tremendous cast of wonderful characters find themselves jointly and separately navigating the challenges of life, of love, and...other pets, including Clancy's “worst enemy” - one very disdainful cat. It’s a lot to keep track of, especially when things start to spin hilariously out of control, but fortunately, we’ve got the observations of Clancy, a very good dog, who shares a valuable perspective on what is really important. Download or read book Grizzlies On My Mind written by Michael W. Leach and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it about Yellowstone National Park that draws millions of visitors from all over the world? If you've visited Yellowstone, you should already know the answer. If you've never visited—or you have, but still don't know the answer—Michael Leach explains it to you in his book of essays, "Grizzlies on My Mind." Leach is a Yellowstone insider with unmatched passion for this nation's first national park. At the age of twenty-two, Leach's dream of becoming a Yellowstone ranger came true. It wasn't long before he'd earned the nickname "Rev" for his powerful Yellowstone "sermons." In "Grizzlies on My Mind," Leach shares his love for Yellowstone—its landscapes and wildlife, especially its iconic bison and grizzlies—as he tells tales that will delight anyone interested in the national park system, wildlife and wild landscapes, rivers and adventure. Heartwarming and heartbreaking stories of human lives lost, efforts to save a black bear cub, a famous wolf who helped Leach through some dark personal days, the unique and oftentimes humorous Yellowstone "culture," backpacking trips that nearly ended in disaster, and Leach's spiritual journey with his Assiniboine-Gros Ventre "brother" fill the pages—and the reader's heart. If you've never been charged by an elk, traveled solo at dawn across Yellowstone's frigid interior (working your way slowly through a herd of peaceful bison in the process), or lain awake in a backcountry tent, listening for the spine-tingling breaths of a curious grizzly—but you crave such experiences, "Grizzlies on My Mind" is the book for you.

Book excerpt: Foreword by Susan Orlean A charming facsimile edition of celebrated British illustrator Lucy Dawson’s 1937 classic collection of highly detailed and loveable drawings of dogs, complete with a cloth spine and ribbon marker—the companion volume to the acclaimed Dogs As I See Them. Lucy Dawson, also known as "Mac," was a preeminent British illustrator in the 1930s and 1940s revered for her paintings and etchings of dogs, from sporting and non-sporting breeds to hounds and herders. Though she worked in numerous mediums—pencil, pen, ink, and oil—her pastels set her work apart. Noted for her commercial dog postcards and her delightful "Tailwagger" series, she also created a "Puppies" series of 40 cigarette cards during World War II—produced in a limited quantity due to wartime restrictions on paper—which have become a rare collector’s item today. One of her most famous works is her portrait of "Dookie," the British Royal Family’s favorite Corgie, which was later reproduced as a Royal Family Christmas card. Dawson also published several books, including the beloved Dogs As I See Them, and its follow-up, Dogs Rough and Smooth. Now, Dogs Rough and Smooth is available in a lovely facsimile edition for a new generation discovering her superb craftsmanship. Printed on an uncoated stock that simulates the look and feel of a sketchbook, this delightful volume is filled with her beautiful, endearing drawings of a range of breeds. The illustrations are accompanied by notes in Dawson’s own handwriting as well as a short anecdotal text that provides amusing insight into the personalities of her canine models and the experience of drawing each. A stunning reproduction of this classic work filled with full-color and black-and-white complete drawings and sketches, Dogs Rough and Smooth features a foreword by acclaimed writer Susan Orlean, and is packaged in a three-piece case with a beautiful cloth spine and long ribbon bookmark. Download or read book May Day written by Gretchen Marquette and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2016-05-03 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You arrive at my altar with no idea what it means to worship--to adore. You haven't even learned it: ecstasy and suffering make the same face. --from "The Offering" May Day is both a distress call and a celebration of the arrival of spring. In this rich and unusually assured first collection, the poet Gretchen Marquette writes of the losses of a brother gone off to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and a great love--losses that have left the world charged with absence and grief. But there is also the wonder of the natural world: the deer at the edge of the forest, the dog reliably coaxing the poet beyond herself and into the city park where by tradition every May Day is pageantry, a festival of surviving the long winter. "What does it mean to be in love?" one poem asks. "As it turns out, / the second best thing that can happen to you / is a broken heart." May Day introduces readers to a new poet of depth and power.
Book Synopsis Douglas and the Reluctant Pastor by : Roy D Perkins
Download or read book Douglas and the Reluctant Pastor written by Roy D Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-12-14 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Pastor Micah Whitfield and his omnipotent and omniscient treeing walker coonhound named Douglas. Micah will gradually discover that Douglas has supernatural powers as endowed to him by the Almighty. Douglas is on a mission from the Almighty. He is to guide and mold Pastor Micah into a fit hellfire-and-brimstone pastor. Douglas has his work cut out for him as Micah is very reluctant to perform his pastoral duties. Douglas is the real pastor of the church. Douglas writes the sermons, leads communion services, leads Bible studies, and does most of all the Christian counseling as Micah is inept at all of them. In exchange, Douglas is rewarded with porterhouse steaks and cheesecake. Eventually, Douglas becomes known as the Hell Dog. He frequently gives guided tours of hell. Occasionally, he gives a tour of the heavenly realm or Reprobate City. As Douglas and Micah become inseparable, the reader discovers that this "perfect canine" has some flaws. He frequently gets Micah into trouble in the church, on vacation, and during their demonstrations and marches on the capital city and Washington City. Micah is always getting arrested. Douglas is always there to break him out of jail. They frequently become fugitives from injustice. On the other hand, Douglas sometimes does some pro bono work for the police department. He wears a badge that says, "Deputized Outlaw." Just before vacation, Micah is impeached by the congregation. Douglas gives a long-winded dissertation about salvation and the Almighty. He even takes the entire congregation on a tour of hell. When he is done, Micah has the congregation on his side. This lays the groundwork for putting words into action. The entire congregation is in a "demonstration mode."

Book Synopsis The Other End of the Leash by : Patricia McConnell, Ph.D.
Download or read book The Other End of the Leash written by Patricia McConnell, Ph.D. and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2009-02-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.
