Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joy is a cute little squirrel who lives in atree in a Ukrainian city park. She is always happy and even happier when one day she meets a little girl who gives her a taste ofsomething delicious. Eve rything used to run in harmony in the park. But things change when war breaks out, and Joy must escape with her other friends to the forest. Not knowing what is going on, they decide to visit Joy’s grandmother, a wise old squirrel who will explain everything to the young animals. ABOUT THIS BOOK`S STORY: About 5 months ago, not so long, in the winter times of years of peace, when I was strolling through the Gorky Park in the city of Harkov in Ukraine, I saw small squirrels wandering in the forest and rushing quickly and excitedly from one tree to another and carrying their food among the curious gazes of people. I was impressed and so did my daughter Elisa (5 years old), as well. But when the war bursted out and we had to leave Harkov suddenly, I had felt so sad thinking maybe our sweet memories were left behind us forever. So I decided to write this little children’s book as a memory. When there were explosions in the city, while we are at home, my daughter asked me “What are these sounds, daddy?” I always replied: “The planes are passing, Elisa” and added “This is all little game, honey”. Because, I believe that the children should never learn what the war is or you should tell the war like a story. I hope, you will enjoy reading my second book, which aims to give meaningful messages to not only for the children, and also for the adults. This story tells our tragical and also hard last day that we left Ukraine, when not only people had damaged and also the animals had suffered. By the way, the proceeds of this book will be used to help war-torn civilians in Ukraine. May God helps to all.. M. Ukray (May, 2022)

Book excerpt: Disconnect from the distractions of daily life and reconnect with nature with Wild Walking, an enticing and comprehensive introduction to forest bathing--or Shinrin-yoku, in Japan. Full sensory immersion in the beauty and wonder of nature and trees can produce mental, emotional, and physical health benefits. Research has shown that forest bathing lowers blood pressure, pulse rate, and cortisol levels; improves mood; and may even boost our immunity to cancer and other diseases. Wild Walking invites you to experience the benefits of this healing practice for yourself. Learn the history and background of forest bathing, followed by detailed instructions for establishing a forest bathing practice in your own adopted "wild home," encompassed in three steps: 1. Disengagement from your daily routine 2. Deep breathing and nature connection through a series of quiet activities or "invitations" 3. Transitioning back to your daily life This restorative activity can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities: children, teenagers, and even senior citizens with limited mobility and people recovering from illness and surgery. And you don't need to travel to the Japanese alps to experience the benefits of forest bathing. All you need is a small patch of untouched (or lightly touched) nature to adopt as your "wild home." Within, find practical tips and inspiration for forest bathing through the seasons: in the winter, when the leafless trees open up new vistas; in the spring, when you can hear the melodious serenade of song birds as they nest in the newly formed green canopy; in the summer, watching the butterflies nectaring on wildflowers; and in the autumn, when you can catch glimpses of hurried squirrels storing food for the winter. Wild Walking introduces a variety of activities that can be enhanced with forest bathing elements, such as mindfulness practices, exercise, art and writing, and outdoor celebrations. Learn, too, how surrendering to the mysteries of nature can provide guidance through difficult times. As you find nourishment in nature, you will instinctively begin to wonder how you can preserve and protect this healing resource. This guide includes suggestions for tending to your "wild home." Illustrated throughout with enchanting artwork and stunning nature photography, Wild Walking is the perfect guide to enhancing your life with the wondrous world of nature.

Book excerpt: An analysis of the fundamental narrative structure, why it works, the meanings of stories, and why we tell them in the first place. The idea of Into the Woods is not to supplant works by Aristotle, Lajos Egri, Robert McKee, David Mamet, or any other writers of guides for screenwriters and playwrights, but to pick up on their cues and take the reader on a historical, philosophical, scientific, and psychological journey to the heart of all storytelling. In this exciting and wholly original book, John Yorke not only shows that there is truly a unifying shape to narrative—one that echoes the great fairytale journey into the woods, and one, like any great art, that comes from deep within—he explains why, too. With examples ranging from The Godfather to True Detective, Mad Men to Macbeth, and fairy tales to Forbrydelsen (The Killing), Yorke utilizes Shakespearean five-act structure as a key to analyzing all storytelling in all narrative forms, from film and television to theatre and novel-writing—a big step from the usual three-act approach. Into the Woods: A Five-Act Journey into Story is destined to sit alongside David Mamet’s Three Uses of the Knife, Robert McKee’s Story, Syd Field’s Screenplay, and Lajos Egri’s The Art of Dramatic Writing as one of the most original, useful, and inspiring books ever on dramatic writing. Praise for Into the Woods “Love storytelling? You need this inspiring book. John Yorke dissects the structure of stories with a joyous enthusiasm allied to precise, encyclopedic knowledge. Guaranteed to send you back to your writing desk with newfound excitement and drive.” —Chris Chibnall, creator/writer, Broadchurch and Gracepoint “Outrageously good and by far and away the best book of its kind I’ve ever read. I recognized so much truth in it. But more than that, I learned a great deal. Time and again, Yorke articulates things I’ve always felt but have never been able to describe. . . . This is a love story to story—erudite, witty and full of practical magic. I struggle to think of the writer who wouldn’t benefit from reading it—even if they don’t notice because they’re too busy enjoying every page.” —Neil Cross, creator/writer, Luther and Crossbones “Part ‘how-to’ manual, part ‘why-to’ celebration, Into the Woods is a wide-reaching and infectiously passionate exploration of storytelling in all its guises . . . exciting and thought-provoking.” —Emma Frost, screenwriter, The White Queen and Shameless

Book excerpt: Daughter of the Forest is a testimony to an incredible author's talent, a first novel and the beginning of a trilogy like no other: a mixture of history and fantasy, myth and magic, legend and love. Lord Colum of Sevenwaters is blessed with six sons: Liam, a natural leader; Diarmid, with his passion for adventure; twins Cormack and Conor, each with a different calling; rebellious Finbar, grown old before his time by his gift of the Sight; and the young, compassionate Padriac. But it is Sorcha, the seventh child and only daughter, who alone is destined to defend her family and protect her land from the Britons and the clan known as Northwoods. For her father has been bewitched, and her brothers bound by a spell that only Sorcha can lift. To reclaim the lives of her brothers, Sorcha leaves the only safe place she has ever known, and embarks on a journey filled with pain, loss, and terror. When she is kidnapped by enemy forces and taken to a foreign land, it seems that there will be no way for her to break the spell that condemns all that she loves. But magic knows no boundaries, and Sorcha will have to choose between the life she has always known and a love that comes only once. Juliet Marillier is a rare talent, a writer who can imbue her characters and her story with such warmth, such heart, that no reader can come away from her work untouched. Book excerpt: Sue Susman's poems take readers on a journey deep into her feelings and emotions. She is not afraid to relive memories that are sometimes unpleasant and even painful, yet the book has an uplifting message. Book Review 1: In this amazing collection, poet Sue Susman takes readers on an intimate journey into her heart and soul. She bravely shares her loves, losses and victories in visually evocative language that will inspire readers to also examine their lives. - Myrna Petlicki, writer and lyricist Book Review 2: Sue Susman brings her artist's eyes, heart and rare sensibilities to create a work that expands, refines and deepens us all! - Zoe Keithley, Crow Song, The Calling of Mother Adelli, Of Fire, Of Water, Of Stone: Jophiel's Story Book Review 3: I first heard of Sue Susman through her brother. William Susman is the composer of Scatter My Ashes, an orchestral work based on Sue’s poems (including some of the poems in this volume) and performed by OCTET. The Forest Within isn’t the product of an English department, and Sue Susman, a clinical social worker, isn’t a member of any special avant garde school of poets. Rather she’s a deeply insightful human being with a grand capacity for self-examination — and self-healing. Many of these poems manifest a startling metaphorical beauty. In “What Holds Us Up” she gives us a vivid representation of the experience of death among loved ones, a reminder that will spring to mind from now on every time I see a tree fallen against its fellows in the forest: Today, a tree has fallen, silent in the arms of loving companions . . . Susman records those precious moments when she’s somehow managed to wipe her vision clean and experience raw reality in its significance, granting us the inner sense of it. At these times her poetry carries an echo of Rumi, refining an infinite beauty from within a crucible of finite pain. The poems make reference to depression, bereavement, loneliness, even sexual abuse. From the jarring “Return Me to Me:” I want my body back. Give it to me. It’s mine. I wasn’t looking when you slipped it out from under, quiet as a ghost . . . Whether or not the poet has endured the pain she describes is beside the point; she manages to masterfully portray the human predicament, using her own life events, certainly, but also reaching into the wellspring of common experience. Her images are mirrors in which we recognise our own suffering and its aftermath before being gently lead to our own personal salvation. From “Beauty Mark:” . . . Nothing is wasted or forgotten, And tears are like footprints leading out of a sea of grief and pain. - Wanda Waterman, themindfulbard.com

Book excerpt: In the age of scientific medicine we live long lives. But still most of us sooner or later face serious illnesses for which we seek cures. Nowadays we believe that curing comes about from a sharing of responsibilities by the medical specialist and the patient. Moreover we now realize that being sick is a social event. The scientific aspects of curing have been well described by the specialists. By comparison descriptions of illnesses as social events happening to individuals are rare. However the patient's contribution to the healing process may be crucial. And so Stroke! A Memoir gives a description from the patient's viewpoint of the healing process, written by the patient after he recovered.

In this beautiful and revealing book, National Geographic combines legendary photography with cutting-edge science to illuminate exactly how trees influence the life of planet Earth--from our personal lives to the weather cycle. Beautifully illustrated essays tell the stories of the world's most remarkable trees, from Tane Mahura in New Zealand, the ancient Maori "lord of the forest," to Pando, a single aspen spreading over 100 acres: Earth's largest living thing. You'll also discover how an astronaut carried tree seeds to the moon and back; the reason "microdosing" on tree gas is a sure way to boost your immune system; and why playing in the dirt boosts serotonin, happiness hormone.
