Download or read book Chromophobia written by David Batchelor and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2000-09 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Batchelor coins the term "chromophobia"--A fear of corruption or contamination through color--in a meditation on color in western culture. Batchelor analyzes the history of, and the motivations behind, chromophobia, from its beginnings through examples of nineteenth-century literature, twentieth-century architecture and film to Pop art, minimalism and the art and architecture of the present day. He argues that there is a tradition of resistance to colour in the West, exemplified by many attempts to purge color from art, literature and architecture. Batchelor seeks to analyze the motivations behind chromophobia, considering the work of writers and philosophers who have used color as a significant motif, and offering new interpretations of familiar texts and works of art.
Download or read book Drawing Futures written by Bob Sheil and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing Futures brings together international designers and artists for speculations in contemporary drawing for art and architecture.Despite numerous developments in technological manufacture and computational design that provide new grounds for designers, the act of drawing still plays a central role as a vehicle for speculation. There is a rich and long history of drawing tied to innovations in technology as well as to revolutions in our philosophical understanding of the world. In reflection of a society now underpinned by computational networks and interfaces allowing hitherto unprecedented views of the world, the changing status of the drawing and its representation as a political act demands a platform for reflection and innovation. Drawing Futures will present a compendium of projects, writings and interviews that critically reassess the act of drawing and where its future may lie.Drawing Futures focuses on the discussion of how the field of drawing may expand synchronously alongside technological and computational developments. The book coincides with an international conference of the same name, taking place at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, in November 2016. Bringing together practitioners from many creative fields, the book discusses how drawing is changing in relation to new technologies for the production and dissemination of ideas.

Book Synopsis Can We Still Believe the Bible? by : Craig L. Blomberg

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenges to the reliability of Scripture are perennial and have frequently been addressed. However, some of these challenges are noticeably more common today, and the topic is currently of particular interest among evangelicals. In this volume, highly regarded biblical scholar Craig Blomberg offers an accessible and nuanced argument for the Bible's reliability in response to the extreme views about Scripture and its authority articulated by both sides of the debate. He believes that a careful analysis of the relevant evidence shows we have reason to be more confident in the Bible than ever before. As he traces his own academic and spiritual journey, Blomberg sketches out the case for confidence in the Bible in spite of various challenges to the trustworthiness of Scripture, offering a positive, informed, and defensible approach.

Book Synopsis The World of Ancient Israel by : Society for Old Testament Study
Download or read book The World of Ancient Israel written by Society for Old Testament Study and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-11-21 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encapsulating as it does research that has been undertaken on the sociological, anthropological and political aspects of the history of ancient Israel, this important book is designed to follow in the tradition of works in the series sponsored by The Society for Old Testament Study which began with the publication of The People and the Book in 1925. The World of Ancient Israel is especially concerned to explore in greater depth than comparable studies the areas and degrees of overlap between approaches to the subject of Old Testament research adopted by scholars and students of theology and the social sciences. Increasing numbers of scholars have recognised the valuable insights that can be gained from a cross-disciplinary approach, and it is becoming clear that the early biblical traditions about the formation of the Israelite state must be examined in the light of comparative anthropology if useful historical conclusions are to be drawn from them.

Download or read book The Poetry Handbook written by John Lennard and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2006-01-05 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poetry Handbook is a lucid and entertaining guide to the poet's craft, and an invaluable introduction to practical criticism for students. Chapters on each element of poetry, from metre to gender, offer a wide-ranging general account, and end by looking at two or three poems from a small group (including works by Donne, Elizabeth Bishop, Geoffrey Hill, and Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott), to build up sustained analytical readings. Thorough and compact, with notes and quotations supplemented by detailed reference to the Norton Anthology of Poetry and a companion website with texts, links, and further discussion, The Poetry Handbook is indispensable for all school and undergraduate students of English. A final chapter addresses examinations of all kinds, and sample essays by undergraduates are posted on the website. Critical and scholarly terms are italicised and clearly explained, both in the text and in a complete glossary; the volume also includes suggestions for further reading. The first edition, widely praised by teachers and students, showed how the pleasures of poetry are heightened by rigorous understanding and made that understanding readily available. This second edition — revised, expanded, updated, and supported by a new companion website - confirm The Poetry Handbook as the best guide to poetry available in English.
Download or read book Book of Yakub written by Rasheed Muhammad and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-04-22 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the man Yakub lived 6,600 years ago in the holy land of the east. He lived to be 150 years of old. Yakub is hidden in the Christian Bible under the name Jacob. This man opposed the righteous government of his day. In the book of Genesis 32, the righteous government is symbolically hidden under the name angel. The ancient black people of Egypt referred to Yakub's people as Sea People. The Christian bible symbolically hid Yakub's made man or white race or people under the name Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor (Crete). These people entered parts of the holy land thousands of years ago to destroy it. [Deutoromny 2:23] "And as for the Avvites who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor destroyed them and settled in their place." Mr. Yakub was a scientist or god. The vile world government structure we live under today is rooted in his idea or literature or writings he prepared 6,600 years ago. Prophet Moses (Musa) also taught to Yakub's people, 4,000 years ago, various parts that they had forgotten. Yakub understood the genetic (gene) nature of self and/or the original black nation. The word "gene" is often used to refer to our hereditary human traits. In genetics, these traits are either PP-black dominant, Bp-brown, red, yellow incomplete dominance or aa-wrinkle (pale) recessive. Therefore, a white race was made based upon the number six (i.e., 6 variations of the gene combinations), through the act of sex or breeding the incomplete dominance into its final recessive trait. By this knowledge, he (Yakub) was successful in making a new race of people 6,000 ago called the white race. The warning book Yakub prepared for his race that they may see their day of Judgement contains 403 verses and 22 chapters i.e., Bible Book of Revelations. Brother Malcolm X once said, "I know its hard to believe....but, it true. (Smile)"
