Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This autobiography of my life starts on the island of my birth, Jamaica, in 1962. At a young age, my father left my mother, my brother, and myself. He returned months later and illegally took me away at the age of three to live with his mistress and their unborn child. So begins The Start of the Journey: Part One of an Autobiography, a wrenching tale of my inner survival. The experiences and challenges I endured as a child empowered me for this time in my life, for I finally found the peace within me to share my story with others. I have found forgiveness, love, and respect for myself and others who were in our family circle. I cannot change my past, I can only learn and look forward to my future. I am now a stronger person who is no longer vulnerable, I have been empowered; my adversities have all been transformed into triumphs. Sandra Ward-Cooper left Jamaica for Toronto and now lives in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. She is an educator and a married mother of four children. Modern-day Bostonian, Angelique Kavanaugh was born in Ireland but mysteriously adopted. Unaware of her parentage, she’s always had unusual, witch-like abilities. Hopelessly unlucky in love, she jokingly casts a spell during a magical Samhain full moon hoping to conjure Mr. Perfect—tall, strong, attentive, chivalrous…and smoldering hot. Faolan Mahoney, a notorious eighteenth century Irish privateer, is abruptly hurtled forward 250 years into the future. While the beautiful, alluring auburn-haired witch responsible undoubtedly saves his life, she also irreparably changes it…and him. Angelique’s all contradictions—gentle and amiable one moment and a wild force that challenges him the next. Instinctively, he wants to protect and cherish her. Fully aware he’s to be sent back under the next full moon, Angelique and Faolan attempt to fight their fierce attraction. Their farewell is delayed when they must travel through time to complete dangerous, challenging tasks. After learning there are many intent on keeping them apart, staying together suddenly seems all that matters.

Book excerpt: This entertaining true crime memoir chronicles one man’s redemptive journey from motorcycle gang enforcer to undercover police officer. The only patch-wearing outlaw biker to become a sworn police officer—and live to tell his tale In 1977, Wayne “Big Chuck” Bradshaw was Jersey tough. He was a member of the outlaw Pagans bike gang, a One Percenter, and had earned his colours in a world of boozing, bloody bar fights, and high-stakes crime. But after getting too close to extreme violence, Bradshaw made the life-threatening decision to change his path. The toughness Bradshaw used to survive biker life led him to a distinguished and heroic career as an undercover narcotics officer for the same New Jersey police department that had once arrested him. Bradshaw tells his story with the truth of the streets, from his time in the U.S. Army to his decision to join the Pagans, to the wild adventures of working narcotic stings. He rode with truly dangerous criminals and then returned to those same places as a cop. He tracks down fugitives in Jersey’s toughest neighbourhoods, risks his life rescuing dozens from a fire in a seniors’ residence, and volunteers in the aftermath of 9/11. Jersey Tough is an unflinching memoir of personal struggle, of battling with darkness, and ultimately of redemption. Praise for Jersey Tough “Bradshaw delivers both unflinching honesty and gritty, raw action in this fast-moving thriller.” —Joe Pistone, a.k.a. Donnie Brasco “Fast-paced, brutally honest, and compelling.” —Lisa Pulitzer, New York Times–bestselling author “As a former sergeant-at-arms in one of the other “Big Four” motorcycle clubs, I can confirm the authenticity of the biker tales graphically revealed on these pages. Epxosing his courage as well as his frailties, Big Chuck bares all with surprising candor.” —Glenn Heggstad, author of Two Wheels Through Terror “[An] immensely entertaining memoir. . . . This fascinating book is true-crime writing at its best and will appeal to anyone interested in the sordid dealings of America's criminal underworlds.”—Publishers Weekly

Our Mum and Nanny taught us to cook, and Original Flava is all about meals that are vibrant, lively, exciting, and full of the influences from different cultures that make the Caribbean island of Jamaica so wonderful. That's why we've travelled to Jamaica to bring you its authentic and fresh FLAVAs! Our motto is EAT: we make our recipes Easy, Accessible and Tasty. We want to give you platefuls that taste like grandma's food so there are recipes for classics like Ackee 'n' Saltfish and Curry goat, and Caribbean favourites from home such as Garlic butter lobster and Trini doubles. We also like to twist it up a likkle to give dishes our modern spin, so you can find recipes for Honey roasted jerk-spiced salmon, Plantain beanburgers and Banana fritter cheesecake. The most important thing, we think, is the togetherness food brings – the same happiness we have with our family. We want to share this joy: a testament to the culture of Jamaica, the fun, fantastic FLAVAs, and the stories behind the food, straight from the people of Jamaica. So, get your ingredients, turn on a likkle music, and let's get cooking!

Book excerpt: I was born in London in 1962. I spent the first 12 years of my life in a children’s home, struggling not only with the fact that my parents had abandonned me, but also trying to cope with being?of Caribbean decent. I was sent to Jamaica at the age of twelve to be with my Grandmother, Aunty, Brother and Sister all of whom I was to meet for the first time. In Jamaica I learnt to adapt to a different way of life and culture; I saw my father for the first time and lost a good friend in the Island’s capitol, Kingston,?during the violent civil unrest of the late seventies and early eighties. I returned to England in 1982 and after living a play boy type of life for a few years, I?decided to seek out my mother and find out what went wrong. The years which followed took me on a path towards self desruction, trying to hang on to someone I knew I could be, but just did not know how. Alcohol and drugs had created a different person within me and we would have continuous fights for the right to be me. It ended up in February 2006?with us both in?prison on the island of St Lucia, a hard core prison. I won. I started to write out of sheer boredom; what followed was a self therapeutic journey to the land of a reality which I had left behind a long time ago.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To the sound of machine gun fire and the smell of burning flesh, award-winning author In Koli Jean Bofane leads readers on a perilous, satirical journey through the civil conflict and political instability that have been the logical outcome of generations of rapacious multinational corporate activity, corrupt governance, widespread civil conflict, human rights abuses, and environmental degradation in Africa. Isookanga, a Congolese Pygmy, grows up in a small village with big dreams of becoming rich. His vision of the world is shaped by his exploits in Raging Trade, an online game where he seizes control of the world's natural resources by any means possible: high-tech weaponry, slavery, and even genocide. Isookanga leaves his sleepy village to make his fortune in the pulsating capital Kinshasa, where he joins forces with street children, warlords, and a Chinese victim of globalization in this blistering novel about capitalism, colonialism, and the world haunted by the ghosts of Bismarck and Leopold II. Told with just enough levity to make it truly heartbreaking, Congo Inc. is a searing tale about ecological, political, and economic failure.

The advanced techniques explore many elements of Kata Bunkai not normally learned in standard Karate training.
