Book Synopsis Parametric Geometry of Curves and Surfaces by : Alberto Lastra
Download or read book Parametric Geometry of Curves and Surfaces written by Alberto Lastra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a thorough introduction to the differential geometry of parametrized curves and surfaces, along with a wealth of applications to specific architectural elements. Geometric elements in architecture respond to practical, physical and aesthetic needs. Proper understanding of the mathematics underlying the geometry provides control over the construction. This book relates the classical mathematical theory of parametrized curves and surfaces to multiple applications in architecture. The presentation is mathematically complete with numerous figures and animations illustrating the theory, and special attention is given to some of the recent trends in the field. Solved exercises are provided to see the theory in practice. Intended as a textbook for lecture courses, Parametric Geometry of Curves and Surfaces is suitable for mathematically-inclined students in engineering, architecture and related fields, and can also serve as a textbook for traditional differential geometry courses to mathematics students. Researchers interested in the mathematics of architecture or computer-aided design will also value its combination of precise mathematics and architectural examples.
Book Synopsis Semiparametric Theory and Missing Data by : Anastasios Tsiatis
Download or read book Semiparametric Theory and Missing Data written by Anastasios Tsiatis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-01-15 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes current knowledge regarding the theory of estimation for semiparametric models with missing data, in an organized and comprehensive manner. It starts with the study of semiparametric methods when there are no missing data. The description of the theory of estimation for semiparametric models is both rigorous and intuitive, relying on geometric ideas to reinforce the intuition and understanding of the theory. These methods are then applied to problems with missing, censored, and coarsened data with the goal of deriving estimators that are as robust and efficient as possible.
Book Synopsis Parametric Statistical Change Point Analysis by : Jie Chen
Download or read book Parametric Statistical Change Point Analysis written by Jie Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently there has been a keen interest in the statistical analysis of change point detec tion and estimation. Mainly, it is because change point problems can be encountered in many disciplines such as economics, finance, medicine, psychology, geology, litera ture, etc. , and even in our daily lives. From the statistical point of view, a change point is a place or time point such that the observations follow one distribution up to that point and follow another distribution after that point. Multiple change points problem can also be defined similarly. So the change point(s) problem is two fold: one is to de cide if there is any change (often viewed as a hypothesis testing problem), another is to locate the change point when there is a change present (often viewed as an estimation problem). The earliest change point study can be traced back to the 1950s. During the fol lowing period of some forty years, numerous articles have been published in various journals and proceedings. Many of them cover the topic of single change point in the means of a sequence of independently normally distributed random variables. Another popularly covered topic is a change point in regression models such as linear regres sion and autoregression. The methods used are mainly likelihood ratio, nonparametric, and Bayesian. Few authors also considered the change point problem in other model settings such as the gamma and exponential.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The architecture of the human language faculty has been one of the main foci of the linguistic research of the last half century. This branch of linguistics, broadly known as Generative Grammar, is concerned with the formulation of explanatory formal accounts of linguistic phenomena with the ulterior goal of gaining insight into the properties of the 'language organ'. The series comprises high quality monographs and collected volumes that address such issues. The topics in this series range from phonology to semantics, from syntax to information structure, from mathematical linguistics to studies of the lexicon.

Book Synopsis Parametric Design for Architecture by : Wassim Jabi
Download or read book Parametric Design for Architecture written by Wassim Jabi and published by Laurence King Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architects use CAD to help them visualize their ideas. Parametric design is a fast-growing development of CAD that lets architects and designers specify the key parameters of their model and make changes interactively. Whenever changes are made the rest of the model updates automatically. Through a detailed description of various parametric, generative and algorithmic techniques, this book provides a practical guide to generating geometric and topological solutions for various situations, including explicit step-by-step tutorials. While the techniques and algorithms can be generalized to suit to any parametric environment, the book illustrates its concepts using the scripting languages of one of the most powerful 3D visualization and animation design software systems (Autodesk 3ds Max MAXScript), one of the most popular open-source Java-based scripting environments (Processing), and a brand new language specifically tailored for parametric and generative design (Autodesk DesignScript). This clear, accessible book will have a wide appeal to students and practitioners who would like to experiment with parametric techniques.
Book Synopsis Wave Turbulence Under Parametric Excitation by : Victor S. L'vov
Download or read book Wave Turbulence Under Parametric Excitation written by Victor S. L'vov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WAVE TURBULENCE is a state of a system of many simultaneously excited and interacting waves characterized by an energy distribution which is not in any sense close to thermodynamic equilibrium. Such situations in a choppy sea, in a hot plasma, in dielectrics under arise, for example, a powerful laser beam, in magnets placed in a strong microwave field, etc. Among the great variety of physical situations in which wave turbulence arises, it is possible to select two large limiting groups which allow a detailed analysis. The first is fully developed wave turbulence arising when energy pumping and dissipation have essentially different space scales. In this case there is a wide power spectrum of turbulence. This type of turbulence is described in detail e. g. in Zakharov et al. 1 In the second limiting case the scales in which energy pumping and dissipation occur are the same. As a rule, in this case a narrow, almost singular spectrum of turbulence appears which is concentrated near surfaces, curves or even points in k-space. One of the most important, widely investigated and instructive examples of this kind of turbulence is parametric wave turbulence appearing as a result of the evolution of a parametric instability of waves in media under strong external periodic modulation (laser beam, microwave electromagnetic field, etc. ). The present book deals with parametric wave turbulence.
