Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. S. Bach's two-part keyboard pieces form a significant body of musical literature, but only occasionally have they been arranged for strings. This carefully transcribed collection of violin duets and its two companion volumes – Duets for Two Violas (MB # 21438) and Duets for Two Cellos (MB #21439) – bring many additions, taken from Bach's suites, preludes, and inventions, to the string player's repertoire. Intermediate and advanced instrumentalists will delight in the musical complexity, contrapuntal dialogue, and variety of moods in these pieces.Since bowing and fingering preferences vary greatly among string players, editorial marks have been kept to a minimum. These arrangements are an attractive, valuable addition to string ensemble work.
Book Synopsis A. Vivaldi/J. S. Bach: Concerto in D Major, RV 230/BWV 972 by : Ming-Jui Liu

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of two transcriptions based on Vivaldi's Concerto No.9 in D major for solo violin and strings, RV 230, and Bach's harpsichord transcription of it, BWV 972: 1) two guitars and a string quartet, 2) guitar duo. RV 230/BWV 972 has been transcribed to many instrumental settings; however, a version for two guitars and a string quartet is rare, and it adds a new dimension to guitar transcriptions of this work. With the use of this instrumentation, we are able to keep Bach's ideas within the concerto grosso format. That is to say, Bach's additions in his transcription can be realized in a concerto setting with guitar soloists and a string quartet, such that there is an exchange of instrumentation between the tutti and solo passages.Although many guitarists have played lute concertos, such as Vivaldi's Lute Concerto in D major, RV 93, a performance of a concerto grosso piece is not common. The present transcriptions further expand the guitar repertoire of the Baroque concerto grosso form, and they make an important contribution to showing the breadth of the guitar repertoire."Congratulations to Ming-Jui Liu with this important contribution to the duo guitar concerto repertoire. This little known transcription by Bach of a concerto by Vivaldi fits the duo guitar ensemble perfectly. Ming-Jui Liu's transcription sounds natural and is a good fit with a Baroque orchestra." - Jerry Willard, Guitar Professor at Stony Brook University"This transcription of the Concerto in D for 2 guitars and string quartet by Vivaldi/Bach is a welcome addition to the guitar duet repertoire. Rarely do we guitarists get to perform a masterwork such as this in an ensemblesetting. The transcription is a fine balance of careful scholarship and artistic imagination. Bravo Ming Jui-Liu!" - Kevin Gallagher, World Renown Guitarist

Book excerpt: The Concerto for Two Violins, Strings, and Continuo in D minor, BWV 1043, also known as the Double Violin Concerto, is perhaps one of the most famous works by J. S. Bach and considered among the best examples of the work of the late Baroque period. Bach may have written it between 1717 and 1723 when he was the Kapellmeister at the court of Anhalt-Köthen, Germany, [1] though the work's performance materials for the Ordinaire Concerten that Bach ran as the Director of the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig are dated c. 1730-31.[2] Later in 1739, in Leipzig, he created an arrangement for two harpsichords, transposed into C minor, BWV 1062.[1] In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings and basso continuo.

Book Synopsis Johann Sebastian Bach - Fugue in a Minor Bwv 1000 by : Jeffrey Goodman
Download or read book Johann Sebastian Bach - Fugue in a Minor Bwv 1000 written by Jeffrey Goodman and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. S. Bach's Fugue in A minor exists in three versions. The version for lute, BWV 1000, is in French lute tablature by Johann Christian Weyrauch. The violin version (in the key G minor) is from Sonata I, BWV 1001, and is in Bach's own handwriting. The organ version, BWV 539, is an unauthenticated and anonymous arrangement in D minor, and has not been used as source material for this transcription. This transcription is primarily based on the version for lute, but a few elements from the violin version are also incorporated. Since the lute version bears traces of some accommodation for technical considerations relating to the idiosyncrasies of the baroque lute, some minor inconsistencies have been resolved by relying on the violin version, since it is in Bach's own hand. About the Book This book contains three complete scores of the fugue. The musical content of each is virtually identical. The solo, duet and trio versions offer three modes for exploring the music. It is recommended that the player learn both the duet and trio versions, mastering each of the parts. In this way, the musical content of all the contrapuntal melodic strands will become deeply embedded in the player's musical imagination. When the player is fully at ease with each of the individual parts of the duet and trio, then the solo version can be mastered with much greater ease. The technical issues, which are at times quite challenging, then are encountered and resolved. A perfectly detailed musical imagination of all the parts then becomes the impetus for full technical mastery.
