The main objective of assessing the job characteristics and job satisfaction employees in selected Dominican-run institutions is to critically assess the internal environment of the employees. A proper analysis in the study is important to employers in terms of deepining their understanding of the role intrinsic motivation plays in employee satisfaction and psychological well-being in the workplace. Drawing upon the Job Characteristics Model (J.R. Hackman & G.R. Oldham, 1976) the study focused on proposing a program for an enhanced intrinsic motivation in the workplace by highlighting, articulating and assessing the job characteristics and job satisfaction of the 228 respondents in the four Dominican-run institutions within Metro manila. Job Diagnostic Survey (JDS, 1976) and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaires (MSQ 1977) were used to measure the Job Characteristics and Job Satisfaction of the respondents, respectively. The respondents were only those on regular employment and non-academic. Results indicated that although there is some remarkable difference in the job characteristics and job satisfaction of the respondents (the two measurable variables) yet there is a 2-tailed correlation between them. A program for the enhancement of an intrinsic motivation was proposed from the analyzed results.

Book excerpt: The role of motivation and its relationship with desired outcomes has been studied in a variety of contexts as evidenced in the literature. Motivation, its origin, type, and its effect, has been theorized to range from non-existent to the main driving force behind all behavior. Self-determination theory, a more recent motivational theory, posits that motivation is a driving force of behavior; however, the amount of control one has to perform freely a given task determines whether this motivation is internally (autonomously) generated or externally (controlled) generated. The idea of motivation affecting outcomes is clearly evidenced in research geared toward finding the role of motivation on satisfaction of a given job, task, or assignment. This research reviewed studies that focused on motivation and its role in job satisfaction. A theoretical thread was postulated that intrinsic motivation is as good as, if not better in most instances, than extrinsic motivation in determining job satisfaction. Also, job satisfaction leads to greater lengths of tenure in a given job. Both of these statements were affirmed from a review of the literature. However, one question remains: what type of intrinsic motivation factors best correlate to job satisfaction (and its potential effect of improving tenure)? Therefore, the overall objective of this study was to determine whether various forms of intrinsic motivation correlate with an employee's satisfaction with his or her job or career. The study was conducted using a survey method that incorporated the participation of 172 participants from two very similar psychiatric hospitals in the southeastern United States. Multiple linear regression was used to determine if any relationship existed between three intrinsic motivation factors (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and job satisfaction. The results of this study suggest that positive relationships do exist between that of autonomy and relatedness intrinsic motivation factors and job satisfaction scores. The combined predictor factors (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) yielded an R2 = .145, indicating that almost 15% of the total job satisfaction scores can be explained by these three variables. Additional, exploratory regression analyses were conducted using experimental statements and selected demographic information. Conclusions and recommendations for future research are also given.

Two hypotheses were set out to explain the research problem; (H1) Employees' growth Need strength has significant impact on the relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction. (H2) Employees' Growth Need Strength works as predictor of job satisfaction of bank employees. First hypothesis was rejected because R square change is not significant but H2 was accepted (r value =0.678).

This is a pressing question for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)--and the developing world more broadly--as countries seek to build human capital to drive sustainable growth. Significant progress in access has expanded coverage such that nearly all children in the region attend primary school, but many do not gain basic skills and drop out before completing secondary school, in part due to low-quality service delivery. The preponderance of evidence shows that it is learning--and not schooling in and of itself--that contributes to individual earnings, economic growth, and reduced inequality. For LAC in particular, low levels of human capital are a critical factor in explaining the region’s relatively weak growth performance over the last half century. The easily measurable inputs are well-known, and the end goal is relatively clear, but raising student achievement at scale remains a challenge. Why? Part of the answer lies in management--the managers, structures, and practices that guide how inputs into the education system are translated into outputs, and ultimately outcomes. While management is often mentioned as an important factor in education policy discussions, relatively little quantitative research has been done to define and measure it. And even less has been done to unpack how and how much management matters for education quality. This study presents new conceptual and empirical contributions that can be synthesized in four key messages: 1. Student learning is unlikely to improve at scale without better management. 2. Management quality can be measured and should be measured as a catalyst for improvement. 3. Management affects how well every level of an education system functions, from individual schools to central technical units, and how well they work together. 4. Several pathways to strengthening management are open to LAC countries now, with the potential for significant results. The study elaborates on each of these messages, synthesizing recent data and research and presenting the results of several new research initiatives from across the region.
