Download or read book Jo-Jo Congo King: Volume 2 written by Fox Syndicate and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the highly-populated world of Tarzan imitators (if we accept his to be the most copied original), it's not about new concepts - there are only so many ways you can create a white man in the jungle facing incredible situations and rescuing damsels in distress who, quite frankly, shouldn't be there. It's about how it is done --- and Jo-Jo The Congo King regularly offered more sophisticated stories, more complex plots, and better illustration than its counterparts. Having talents such as Matt Baker at the pen for many issues didn't hurt, either! Jo-Jo was successful in many titles, appearing in more comics than most jungle he-man, starting with his own JO-JO CONGO KING, which we've have for you right here! NOTE: Two stories from issue #16 are included, although they are later reprint versions. The titles have been changed from the original stories, but the content is otherwise the same. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horror comics were among the first comic books published--ghastly tales that soon developed an avid young readership, along with a bad reputation. Parent groups, psychologists, even the United States government joined in a crusade to wipe out the horror comics industry--and they almost succeeded. Yet the genre survived and flourished, from the 1950s to today. This history covers the tribulations endured by horror comics creators and the broader impact on the comics industry. The genre's ultimate success helped launch the careers of many of the biggest names in comics. Their stories and the stories of other key players are included, along with a few surprises.

Download or read book Pulp Demons written by John A. Lent and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The campaign in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s to rid comic books of their violent content, and often-times to obliterate the medium itself, had far-reaching and deeply felt reverberations. Spearheaded by moralists, educators, politicians, and psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham, anti-comics crusades led to book burnings, town meetings, periodical discourses, and the draconian Comics Code, recognized as the most oppressive act of self-censorship in this country's history. At issue was the possible link between comic books and juvenile delinquency, although then-current concerns about communist infiltration, lowered educational levels, and moral decay also crept into the arguments.

Book Synopsis Jungle Comics #100 by : Kari Therrian
Download or read book Jungle Comics #100 written by Kari Therrian and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: JUNGLE COMICS #100The main character associated with the title is Kaanga. He appeared in every issue of Jungle Comics. When Kaanga was a child his parents died in the jungle and he was raised by apes. The reader never gets to know his real name or his ancestry, but the jungle is where Kaanga feels most at home. In the first issue Kaanga meets his mate Ann, who is a Jane clone, after he rescues her from a white slave trader named Bill Blackton. Ann then joins Kaanga in his jungle existence. After nearly ten years Kaanga was given his own title in Spring, 1949. This ran for 20 issues until the Summer of 1954. One of the reasons for the series demise was the formation of The Comics Code Authority, a self-regulatory body that was formed because of moral concerns about the contents of many of the comics of the time. As much of Fiction House's material involved images of scantily clad women they withdrew from the market.
