Book excerpt: In 1994 the School of Criminology, a part of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminology in the Faculty of Law of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, celebrated the 25th anniversary of its study programme. To give added lustre to this landmark in its history, the Institute accepted the invitation from the International Society of Criminology to organise the 49th International Course of Criminology. The title of the course was: Changes in Society, Crime and Criminal Justice in Europe. A challenge for criminological education and research'. This course explored two themes, both of which are likely to be the focus of debate in criminal policy in the near future: crime and insecurity in the city, and international organised and corporate crime. The presentation and discussion of both themes followed two main approaches. Lectures and seminars focused on the analysis of the nature, the quantity and the development of the phenomena, and meetings were focused on the policy needed to gain control of these phenomena. Moreover, attention was paid to technical and ethical problems which show up at the moment that empirical research is carried out. This publication brings together the main part of the introductory lectures. Part one relates to the theme of crime and insecurity in the city; the second part contains the lectures on international organised and corporate crime. Together both parts present a good picture of what was explained and commented on during the Course, especially in relation to important European developments concerning crime, criminal justice and criminal policy. This book will become an important source of inspiration for both criminological educationand research.

Pourtant, seulement 7% des événements sportifs diffusés aujourd'hui à la télévision française concernent des compétitions féminines. Des chiffres qui interpellent et qui illustrent la sous-médiatisation globale du sport féminin. C'est ce constat qui a conduit le think tank Sport et Citoyenneté à réunir en 2010 un panel d'experts européens sur le thème de la médiatisation du sport féminin. Cet ouvrage est le résultat de ces trois années d'échanges. Il fournit plusieurs pistes de réflexion visant à améliorer l'exposition du sport féminin. Parmi elles, l'inscription de davantage de compétitions sportives féminines sur la liste des événements sportifs d'importance majeure se dégage. Un proposition qui renforcerait la diffusion en clair du sport féminin et qui pourrait ainsi inspirer les nouvelles générations. About 37% of European women admit they do not practise a sport at least once a week. It is very close to the men's percentage (43%), however, only 7% of broadcasted sport event on TV concern female competitions. This draws attention to and illustrates the general lack of media coverage of women's sport. This is why, in 2010, Sport and Citizenship decided to gather a panel of European experts on the media coverage of women's sport. This book is thus the outcome of three years of exchanges and brainstorming. It provides avenues for reflection aiming to improve women's sport exposure. Among them, it seems that adding more female competitions to the list of major sport events would be particularly pertinent. Ainsi, le marché des feuilletons brésiliens (telenovelas) s'est brusquement élargi et tend à devenir un phénomène lusophone majeur. Si personne ne nie l'influence croissante que le géant brésilien acquiert dans l'aire dessinée par la pratique du portugais - la quatrième langue européenne la plus parlée dans le monde -, le phénomène produit-il une uniformisation tendancielle des pays de langue portugaise ? L'analyse des médias dévoile certes des phénomènes de rapprochement provoqués par la communauté de langue, mais renforce aussi l'impression que chaque pays reste surtout influencé par son aire d'insertion propre. La lusophonie demeure une aire spécifique d'intersection avec d'autres identités, et n'est pas, en tant que telle, une aire culturelle. Partout, les médias sont un enjeu de pouvoir, et c'est par le biais de ces enjeux que s'expriment les identités ethniques ou politiques, les trajectoires professionnelles des journalistes, les techniques de reportage, les traditions cinématographiques émergentes, etc. Bien entendu, la vitalité des médias sera plus forte là où le mouvement social a imposé une réelle pluralité politique : c'est, en négatif, pourquoi l'Angola n'est pas directement présent dans ce dossier, même si certaines initiatives (le plus souvent restreintes à la capitale) sont prometteuses. En revanche, les vitalités portugaise, brésilienne, capverdienne et même mozambicaine, apparaissent pleinement, qu'il s'agisse de la télévision, de générations journalistiques, du développement d'internet notamment au Cap-Vert, l'archipel de tous les réseaux. Introduit par un beau texte de l'écrivain mozambicain Luis Carlos Patraquim, ce dossier ne prétend pas à l'exhaustivité. Mais, en une dizaine d'articles d'auteurs de nationalités brésilienne, britannique, française, mozambicaine et portugaise, il offre une clé supplémentaire d'approche du puzzle lusophone.
