Book Synopsis American Firms in Europe by : Hubert Bonin
Download or read book American Firms in Europe written by Hubert Bonin and published by Librairie Droz. This book was released on 2009 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Americanization of Europe and the strategic initiatives of American firms abroad have been well studied. The expansion of American firms in Europe, however, lacked a comprehensive study. This book gathers the works of two dozen economic and business historians from across Europe, preceded by Mira Wilkins' comparative essay. The collection addresses the timetable and pace of American direct investment in Europe, the patterns followed in each country according to the specificities of each industry and service sector, and the strategies followed by the different firms. The studies go beyond the facts, scrutinizing the immaterial aspects of this business history, especially European perceptions of American firms and the essential stakes of corporate images and identities. The Europeanization of American firms is a key issue, including social relations, management, commercial policies, brand image, connections and embeddedness. The authors gauge the reaction of public authorities and lobbies (industrialists and trade unions). Graphs and tables provide data, while overviews of ads published by American affiliates fuel analyses of consumer perception.

In this collection, globalization and multilateralism are linked to questions of epistemology, ontology, and strategy. Epistemology entails critical questioning of the nature of knowledge and its foundations. Ontology concerns the significant factors in global political economy. Strategy involves how to move world affairs from its present condition towards normative goals enunciated in the MUNS programme, so as to promote collective ability to channel structural change in a more democratic direction.

Book Synopsis Lotus and the Pool by : Hilda Lee Dail

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a totally new, holistic approach to career development, involving the wisdom of the unconscious—expressed in dreams, symbols, personal myths, intuitions, and memories—as well as the analytical skills needed to set goals and plan strategies. It is designed for anyone who has to make important life decisions—whether in choosing a field, changing careers, trying to get more satisfaction out of work, planning for retirement, or reentering the job market. Based on the principles of creativity as revealed in the world's creation myths and in the techniques of artists, poets, and inventors, the book presents a ten-step process of creative career development. Case histories from the author's counseling practice demonstrate the process at work, and a workbook section gives exercises to help readers: • Examine past successes for clues to aptitude and values • Analyze the success factors that characterize their achievements • Use imaging and other creativity techniques to discover their own inner symbols and personal myths • Develop an action plan for finding or creating their ideal career
Book Synopsis Open-End Investment Fund by : D. C. Corner
Download or read book Open-End Investment Fund written by D. C. Corner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the entry of the United Kingdom into the European Economic Community on 1 January 1973, the opportunity presented itself for a study of open-end investment funds in the enlarged Community. The resulting book, which in a way is a natural sequel to the study Investment and Unit Trusts in Britain and America. (Elek: London, 1968), in which Dr Corner collaborated with Mr H. Burton, has been a long time in preparation, simply because of the sheer volume of statistical material- in particular, consistent sets of reports and accounts of all the EEC and Swiss investment funds - which has had to be collected. As a result, some of the analysis is based on what will inevitably be somewhat dated material at the time of publication. Unfortunately this is a handicap suffered by all such statistical work, unless one has large financial and manpower resources. We have done our best to update certain key statistics wherever this has been possible.

Book Synopsis How to Prepare a Marketing Plan by : John Stapleton
Download or read book How to Prepare a Marketing Plan written by John Stapleton and published by Gower Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marketing is today more a management style than a group of activities under a department head, and is absolutely central to the success of a company as a whole. This has informed the revisions to this fifth edition throughout. Most of the earlier content is retained in an updated form, but a new structure has been introduced and a section on implementation included for the first time. All aspects of the planning process are covered, from analysing market share and deciding marketing strategy, to specific elements of the marketing mix - campaign planning, media evaluation, sales promotion, publicity, packaging and PR. An especially valuable feature is the charts and forms, over 150 of them, which are used throughout to clearly illustrate the planning process.

Book Synopsis Industry and Policy in Independent Ireland, 1922-1972 by : Frank Barry
Download or read book Industry and Policy in Independent Ireland, 1922-1972 written by Frank Barry and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book revisits the history of industry and industrial and economic policy in independent Ireland from the birth of the state to the eve of EEC accession. Though there were several manufacturing employers of significance, and smaller firms in operation in almost every major branch of industry, the Irish Free State was predominantly agricultural at its establishment in 1922. Industrial development was high on the nationalist agenda, as would be the case across the entire developing world in the later post-colonial era. Despite decades of protection, and a substantial increase in the size of the manufacturing sector, Ireland remained under-industrialised when it joined the European Economic Community in 1973. Over the previous decade and a half however the foundations of later convergence had been laid. Ireland was an early adopter of what would come to be known as dual-track reform. The policy of attracting outward-oriented foreign direct investment was initiated before substantial trade liberalisation began. By 1972 there had been a significant diversification in export categories and export destinations, and in the nationality of ownership of the leading manufacturing firms. Some of the most successful indigenous companies of the future were also beginning to emerge. In these and other respects the foundations of the economic progress that would be made over the course of EEC membership were already discernible, notwithstanding the post-accession collapse of most protectionist-era businesses. The analysis is supplemented by a unique firm-level database that allows for the identification of the leading manufacturing firms in operation at any stage from the early 1900s through to 1972. The database extends by more than 50 years the period for which estimates of the significance of foreign-owned industry can be provided.
