BNE ist ein Bildungsansatz, der fast alle aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Fragen in den Blick nimmt und eine nachhaltige, globale Entwicklung stärken will. Eine nachhaltige Entwicklung, "die die Lebensqualität der gegenwärtigen Generation sichert und gleichzeitig zukünftigen Generationen die Wahlmöglichkeit zur Gestaltung ihres Lebens erhält". Nachhaltige Entwicklung ist dabei auf breite Partizipation angewiesen. Die entsprechenden Kompetenzen dazu sollen in der schulischen Bildung erworben werden. BNE ist zwar an vielen Stellen in der Schule präsent, von einer festen Verankerung in den Strukturen kann aber nicht ausgegangen werden. Die hier vorgelegten Forschungsergebnisse leisten einen Beitrag, indem sie aufzeigen, inwieweit der Bildungsansatz Früchte trägt. Das Forschungsprojekt geht der Frage nach, in wieweit BNE in den schulischen Lernprozessen verankert ist und wie sich der aktuelle Wissensstand darstellt. Zu Beginn findet eine Einführung in das Forschungsthema statt mit besonderer Schwerpunktsetzung auf das Bildungskonzept BNE. In Kapitel 2 wird das Recherchetagebuch vorgestellt, welches im Rahmen des Begleitseminars zur Vorbereitung auf die inhaltlichen Aspekte des Forschungsprojekts begleitend geführt wurde. Anhand des Forschungstagebuchs lässt sich die inhaltliche Durchdringung des Themas sukzessive nachempfinden. In den folgenden Kapiteln werden jeweils die verschiedenen Forschungsmethoden im ersten Schritt theoretisch erläutert sowie deren Platzierung in der Reihenfolge des Forschungsprozesses begründet. Es folgen die inhaltliche Ausgestaltung der Methoden und schließlich die Ergebnisdarstellung sowie deren Kommentierung. Der Forschungsprozess wurde auf Basis eines „Mixed Methods-Ansatzes“ durchgeführt, der zum einen eine Kombination aus qualitativen und quantitativen Forschungsmethoden und zum anderen möglichst allumfassende Ergebnisse aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zulässt.
